As the thrilling “Taken by Moonlight” begins, Dmitri, or Lord Carew, as he is known in the London of 1813, observes Lady Amelia Routledge across the ballroom and feels fairly certain she does not realize her true nature or place outside of her society. For her part, Lia feels a restlessness building inside of her, though she has no idea why or what the sensation means.

Oh, Virginia. I can call her by her first name, can’t I? I mean after all, this is her fourth book I’ve had the pleasure of reviewing. Can her writing get any better? Can her voice be more poignant and lyrical? Writing like, “The sea was the color of mossy slate, flashing with sparks like fool’s gold. Pale green bladders of seaweed floated just beyond the reach of the oars.” makes me want to scream “Hallelujah, I’ve been saved” like Sunday meeting time. Exquisite.

Raum is a fallen angel/demon with nowhere left to go. Kicked out of Heaven and forced out of Hell, he agrees to work with a group of demons and angels to right the balance between good and evil in the world. Evil seems to rapidly be overtaking good and, while he thinks mortals are useless creatures, the pay is not bad, and having a purpose again is something he looks forward to.

Scientist Emma is excited that her experiment might just be close to working out after ten tries. Her synthetic pheromones would help with the breeding of the dwindling wolf populations in North America. Never in her mind would she have thought that her pheromones would bring her not one, but three wolven shifters claiming to be her mates. Too bad the pheromone had spilled on her and they would soon realize that it was all a mistake, that they were not her mates after all but the result of her experiment.

Posted under Chat, Discussions, Sci-Fi, T.V./Movies by Carol on Monday 30 August 2010 at 2:10 am

Greetings, Watchers. This week we have two goodies for you: True Blood and Haven.

True Blood, 9:00 p.m. EST Sunday, HBO (Carol)

So, I have just come off of a marathon viewing of Seasons One and Two of True Blood over the last couple of weeks. I love the show, and would like to share my thoughts and observations regarding the visual version of Sookie’s world. As you read this, please keep in mind that at the time of this writing I have only seen Seasons One and Two of the show and have only read the corresponding first two books of the series.

Bryn is by far one of my favorite female heroes. She is a fantastic lead character and manages to be rebellious while still behaving as part of the pack. Bryn is also not a wolf herself, yet she holds a special place in Alpha Callum’s pack. You see, Bryn was attacked by a Rabid werewolf at the age of four. Callum, through powers we come to later know and respect, manages to prevent her death but not her parents’. He had to decide what to do with the four year-old, so he marked her with his claws to claim her as his own and give her a place in his pack.
