How can Opal Cowan recover from the loss — sacrifice — of her magic? Being the only glass magician defined who she was, but without it, her world seems to be irrevocably changed. No longer can Opal create the glass messengers which united the world of Sitia. Instead, she is limited to a sort of anti-magic: she is almost entirely resistant to magic and its effects.

Bryn is by far one of my favorite female heroes. She is a fantastic lead character and manages to be rebellious while still behaving as part of the pack. Bryn is also not a wolf herself, yet she holds a special place in Alpha Callum’s pack. You see, Bryn was attacked by a Rabid werewolf at the age of four. Callum, through powers we come to later know and respect, manages to prevent her death but not her parents’. He had to decide what to do with the four year-old, so he marked her with his claws to claim her as his own and give her a place in his pack.

Amy Lane is the author of the wonderful Little Goddess series. Her latest novel Truth in the Dark is a type of fairy tale — one with the darkness missing in most child fairy stories, but found everywhere in real life. My heart wept for both the heroes.

Determined but reluctant, Mischka Baran entered G2, armed only with a video of her missing cousin Pelinor. Mischka knew it was a dangerous place for humans, but she had to find Pell before she got herself in serious trouble with her wandering and thrill-seeking behavior. Convincing the bartender to watch the video gave Mischka her first real lead on Pell, and she began searching the bar for the owner, Brends Duranov, only to find him out in the alley, looking down on a horribly bloody crime scene. Ramiel, the archangel of Hope, has become jaded and hardened by his duties, providing hope to humans and his fellow angels when he has little or none himself. When he is given the honorable duty of siring the child who will be mankind’s salvation, he’s not at all prepared for how it changes not only his life but also his heart and soul, as well as Heaven, Hell, and Earth in between.

Pan’s Legacy by Viola Grace

I have an addiction to the current trend of modifying classics and fairy tales to the modern age, and Pan’s Legacy is an excellent example of this trend.

Pandora is the granddaughter of Peter Pan – yes, pixie dust and lost boys Peter Pan. But the story she was told was much different from the classic tale. I have to admit that I am really impressed with this character. She is strong and passionate and not afraid to go for what she knows is right. (more…)
