Sex and Trouble by Marilu Mann

Marielle has just inherited her father’s estate after being estranged from him for most of her life. When she gets to his house, she discovers a whole host of secrets that he has been hiding. She finds out that she is a witch and her father has left her a demon. Rosier must have sex in order to be released and he believes that Marielle is just the woman to help him out. But first, they need to find out the way to release her powers so that she can be in a position to help him return home…and they only have two weeks to do it.

I am a sucker for plots that focus on demons of some type, and this book definitely hooked me in. It is different from any other of Marilu Mann’s works, but that does not make it any less enjoyable. Of the books I have read so far by Marilu Mann, Sex and Trouble is my favorite. I got a kick out of watching Marielle discover each level of her powers in her journey to become a witch. And of course, the attraction between Marielle and Rosier was a pleasant addition to the story. If you enjoy demon stories as much as I do, then you will want to pick this book up. It is fun, spicy and has a plot that will keep you engaged until the very end. And unless I miss my guess, this is just the beginning of what promises to be an intriguing series. So pop over and snag this book as soon as you are done reading this review.

Book Excerpt:

“Marielle has just learned she-s a hereditary witch whose inheritance comes with a creepy house and a hot butler who is really a trapped sex demon. Mari doesn-t believe in magick or demons. But once she sees her butler-s-ahem-horns, she has to face the facts. And, he can only be released through mutual sexual pleasure.Although Mari-s sexier than anyone he-s ever known, Rosier wants to go home. If that means making Mari scream in ecstasy, he-ll just have to deal. It-s simple. They have to unlock her powers, defeat her father-s enemy and have mind-blowing sex-in the next two weeks or he-s trapped forever. What-s a girl to do when her inheritance leads to Sex and Trouble? Enjoy it!”

Marilu Mann Release Party, Chat and Contest LIVE Today!

Posted under Chat, Contests, Guest Bloggers, Site News by Site Hostess on Friday 2 April 2010 at 7:05 am

PLEASE NOTE: The contest portion of this event is now over. The winners will be chosen at a later date and contacted via email.

Hi everybody! Please join me in welcoming the writing team known Marilu Mann for their release party, chat and contest today. Today marks their 7th book release! Be sure to pick up a copy of Sex and Trouble. You will be so glad you did! As many of you know Marilu was the very FIRST interview/event we ever did at Bitten by Books, so it is always an honor and a ton of fun when these ladies are in the house. So, Laissez les Bon Temps Rouler!

Our hero, Rosier, had his cards read by Arwen of Tarot By Arwen. She also masquerades as one half of Marilu Mann.

Question 1. How do you see the people around you?

You seem to have some control issues, Rosier. The Chariot is about guiding and leading and showing others how to get places. You see those around you as very much in need of reining in.

If you are trying to work too hard on controlling others, you may lose control of yourself. This is also the card of Cancer, so home is very important to you in how you see people around you. They represent your home or a block perhaps.

Rosier’s Response:

Oh, absolutely I’m trying to control everyone around me. I’m trying to make Marielle help me, trying to keep my sister from snooping too much on the human world, but of course, they’re women and don’t enjoy being told what to do by men. Controlling others – ha! Doesn’t seem to have worked too well for me, now does it? If I had my way, humans and Demonae would never mix. You saying that home is very important is spot on as well. That’s my main goal – to get home. I hate being in this world and I hate being captive here.

Question 2. How are you seen by the people around you?

Those around you see you as the reason for emotional completion. The Ten of Cups is the card of Happily Ever After. Someone knows how much your own emotional happiness means. They may be working to help you gain that. They mean well, just so you know.

Rosier’s Response:

Emotional happiness? Makes me sound like a total sot. Humans extol emotions, and for the most part, use them badly. Look at the way they treat each other – not to mention how they treat my kind. Do you really believe someone else cares about my happiness? I have to hope you’re correct. I have to believe that Marielle Greenlea is the key to my getting free.

Question 3. What is your most important goal?

Here is a lovely card for your most important goal. The Six of Swords is the card of the marathon runner finally winning the race. You have been trying for one single goal for a very long time, I think.

The good news is that you will win. There are those who are cheering you on, Rosier. They want you to achieve this victory. But only you know the true cost of what it is that you seek.

Rosier’s Response:

Now that’s what I wanted to hear. My goal is getting home, whatever the cost to myself or any humans around me. I’ll do whatever it takes, use whatever (or whomever) I have to in order to gain my freedom. Yes, I’ve been striving toward that goal for quite some time. The cost of what I seek? Now you’ve made me wonder who will have to pay that cost…

Question 4. Where do you get your strength from?

Interesting. The Four of Coins is the card of the miser who holds himself back. Your strength comes from avoiding community connections. There is something or someone there that you know will drain your resources.

You stay strong by keeping to yourself and creating your own community.

Rosier’s Response:

Well, I have to don’t I? I’m trapped in this house, held captive by the Greenlea heir. How many humans would believe in a trapped demon? I’m my own best company and possibly my own worst enemy. If it weren’t for my own curiosity about humankind, I would never have come onto Augustus Greenlea’s radar and the old sod wouldn’t have been able to trap me for so long. I only hope his daughter (and a tasty morsel she is) is better than the old man. She makes me…feel. I’m not sure I like that.

Question 5. Why do you want to be remembered?

Well here’s an unusual reason to be remembered. The Ten of Wands is what I call the card of learning to say no. It generally represents taking on too much—trying to be too many things to too many people.

This card is also about perhaps wanting to be remembered as someone who COULD do it all. Maybe you have the idea that you can be all things to all people? This is a very active card as well so there is a lot of passion tied up in these wands.

Rosier’s Response:

Passion – of course there’s passion tied up in everything I do. I’m a sex demon! Passion is my reason for being. I live to give and receive pleasure. I live to smell a woman’s passion, her joy, her ecstasy. My freedom can only be gained by obtaining mutual sexual release three times with my captor. To say that wasn’t ever going to happen with Augustus Greenlea is possibly the world’s biggest understatement. To say it could happen with his daughter is something I’d like to think is possible.

Readers

1.  If you found out you had a sex demon at your beck and call, how would you react? (LOL)
2.  If you found out you had access to unlimited power, what would you do with it first?

Changing Focus by Marilu Mann

Posted under Adult Content, Book Reviews, Shapeshifters, e-books by Virginia on Saturday 19 September 2009 at 10:50 pm
*****

Changing Focus is the story of Micah. After being in New Orleans, he returns home to Wisconsin for the winter season to an expected guest - but an unexpected and pleasant surprise. Olivia is a photojournalist who does not know her true nature. Micah knows that it is his responsibility to show her who she really is; he just did not anticipate wanting to make her his mate along the way. Add to that the return of one of his godchildren and for the first time in his life and Micah realizes what it is to have his own little pack. He has always resisted the idea of being an alpha and tends to be a lone wolf. When he is faced with a challenge from another pack, he will have to decide whether or not he is ready to accept that he has pack to back him up.

I think  Changing Focus has just become my favorite in the Lusting Wild series. I loved this book. It flowed so smoothly and it was fascinating to read Olivia’s story and struggle to accept who she really is. I was also fascinated with Micah’s struggle to accept the mantle of responsibility that was thrust upon him by his pack. His reluctance to accept the position of alpha and his struggle to turn it over to someone else every chance he gets is interesting. While some pack members would kill for the chance to be an alpha, it is not the life that Micah wants, but it is interesting watching him realize just how important that pack to be is.

The romance between Olivia and Micah is very sweet and fun to read; I absolutely adored them as a couple. I love reading about the shifters that Marilu Mann has created. I had been steering away from shifter novels lately because they just did not appeal to me, but this series just drew me back into the shapeshifter world. There is something about the wolves of the Lusting Wild series that appeals to me. And I find myself wanting more. I cannot wait to find out who the writing team of Marilu Mann will focus on in their next novel in the series but I know that I cannot wait to read it.

Book Excerpt: “Finally the story of Micah Keeps Vigil is told. Though he appears in both Changing Times and Changing Hearts, Micah manages to maintain his privacy. He lives his life working six months of the year at something he doesn’t particularly enjoy in order to spend the remaining six months doing something he loves - running a wilderness lodge in the northern reaches of Wisconsin.

Micah grew up with a strong sense of his shifter heritage and an appreciation for his abilities. Enter Olivia Decatur, photojournalist, who suffers from blackouts that leave her with vague memories of the strangest dreams - dreams of running through the woods, dreams of howling at the moon. Her first encounter with the owner of the lodge shocks her down to her toes, as she’s never been so instantly attracted to another man in her life. Micah must help Olivia accept her abilities, her power, and at the same time, show her that he can be trusted to be a part of her life - forever - because we all know that wolves mate for life.”

Guest Blog, Chat and Contest With Author Marilu Mann

Posted under Contests, Guest Bloggers by Site Hostess on Thursday 21 May 2009 at 9:11 am
*****

Hello! The writing team of Marilu Mann is very proud to hold the honor of being the first interviewee to be bitten here at Bitten By Books. We are delighted to have a guest blog in the one year birthday celebration. Has it really been a year? Wow! We decided to let Tante Kay tell you her version of our year since the first book came out.

Please let us introduce you to Mrs. Kay Fuqua (or Tante Kay as she is known in Changing Hearts). Tante Kay is our heroine Joie Landry’s Cajun godmother and swamp healer or Traituesse. Take it away, Tante Kay!

What has dat Marilu Mann been doin’ since her interview here last year?

Oh, child! Dat girl’s been ever’where! Seems she wasn’t satisfied telling de tale o’ dat handsome werecat Tony and his pretty little ER doctor, Carly. She also wrote all about my sweet goddaughter Joie and dat bad wolfboy Malcom Slade. Why Marilu even wrote me into dat story. Glad she didn’t write none of dem steamy sex scenes for me! Mais non! My Pierre , may God rest his soul, would not have liked me doing no two-steppin’ with no other man.

But our Marilu didn’t just stick to shifters last year, now did she? You gotta know she also wrote one little book too. I t’ink she call it the novella. Anywho! I read it. Don’t tell Joie or Malcolm. Dey already worried about my heart, no matter how much I tell ‘em it’s alright. But dat novella? Child let me tell you what! I needed me some icy cold water after reading dat. I t’ink all of me was on fire. Is it legal to write stories like dat, you t’ink?

And now I hear her just got two more stories accepted. One is a short one and I hear it is hot like dat “Sapphire Tease” I was talking ’bout. MMMMM mmmm, I sure do hope it’s true. From what I hear, dis sexy baker draws a map on dis handsome sales guy and then he has to make some big decisions. That one has a name I like. “Sweet Buns” Makes me a bit hungry. And, it’s for a good cause. Dey was some real sadness in the family of Ellora’s Cave and a bunch of those writers, dey got together to do sometin’ nice for the ones what suffered such a loss. Ahh, me…

Oh you wanna know what dat other story is? Well now, if you read Changing Times and Changing Hearts, you probably been wondering about dat shaman, dat Micah Keeps Vigil. You remember what I told him at the end of Changing Hearts? How he needed a family of his own? Well, child, let me tell you! Le Bon Dieu done blessed him good! Gave him a woman and a child. Now He didn’t make it easy for Micah Keeps Vigil. Non. He gonna have to work for his happiness wi’ dis girl. She’s got dem nightmares and bloody dreams. Silly girl. She went to some city doctor what give her drugs to help her sleep and drugs to help her stay awake. Now you and me, we know dat isn’t de right answer for what ails her. But Micah…oh me! He’s got his hands full trying to convince her she not dat crazy and dat she is de woman for him. Do you think he can do it? Marilu she asks,”Can love always find a way?”

I sure do hope Micah can convince Olivia to stay wi’ him. Course, he gonna have to accept a few t’ings of his own about himself. Mm mm mm, dat girl do not make t’ings easy for her shifter boys. And I hear she working on a few other stories. Dey’s a rumor dat sweet boy Nolan gets himself a hot story of his own. Might even be coming in dem free reads Ellora’s Cave been offering.

So Marilu also went down to Orlando to see some pretty boy parade. Sure, she tell me it was de Romantic Times convention and dat she did some book signing and went to some workshops. Yeah, I seen dem pictures here. Bunch of her and some pretty boys. Not dat dere is anyt’ing wrong with pretty boys. One o’ dem boys looked a lot like our Slade even. I wonder if I can get dat boy down here to take me to a fai-do-do? Nawww just an old woman dreaming! But I see he do wrestlin’. I do like me some wrestlin’. Mebbe I drive me up to the city to see him in a match!

So tell me what you did dis year? What made it a great year for you? You share wit me and I’ll share wit you! I got a print copy of Marilu Mann’s first book Changing Times and some lagniappe for one lucky winner. For someone else, I have a download of Sapphire Tease and all y’all get a bit of lagniappe, too. Marilu done put up a cookbook wid a bunch of recipes including one of her own. Dis cookbook–it got some excerpts from other authors too. Just click here and get you some good old down home cookin’ and a bit of reading, y’hear?

And you might like to enjoy her newsletter here. I hope you enjoyed my little chat wi’ you about dat Marilu!

Thanks Tante Kay…I think. And again, many thanks to Rachel and her team of reviewers. This is one of our favorite spots on the web!

NOTE: Marilu will be by later in the day to answer questions and chat with you, but feel free to get this party started!

Changing Hearts by Marilu Mann

Posted under Adult Content, Book Reviews, Shapeshifters, e-books by Rachel on Wednesday 12 November 2008 at 7:56 pm
*****

So, this is a poignant moment for me. Because Marilu Mann was our very FIRST author interview when we first began our site and Changing Times, the first book in the Lusting Wild series was the FIRST e-book I ever read. Changing Hearts is a step down in action from the first installment and a step up on love, lust and more importantly self discovery. In the first book “Slade” was the alpha dick head. Sorry, that is pretty much how I felt about him when I first met him.

Marilu really brings home a very important lesson in this book. One that I personally needed a gentle reminder of, and surprisingly found in the pages of Changing Hearts. When somebody is so unbelievable F#$#@’d up, there is always a reason for it. It behooves us to move past our outrage and anger just for a moment and have empathy towards a being that became so twisted and screwed up for a reason.

There are events that become defining moments, things happen that we may never know about that person that shape them into who they are and become. I believe it was Rafael Sabatini (do not quote me because I could be wrong! lol) who said something to this effect. “When we know all that there is to know about a man, we can do nothing but forgive.”

This is a wonderful tale of pride, love and self discovery between a man completely scarred by his past and a woman’s somewhat crippled heart. How they find one another, and move through the ancient dance of love and lust.

Five tombstones from this jaded and cynical reviewer. Changing Hearts is a love story not to be missed! Damn it Marilu, you made me cry! (do NOT tell anybody!)

Inteview and Contest with Marilu Mann!

Exclusive Bitten by Books

Interview with Marilu Mann

A big welcome to our readers today! We have LOTS of fun stuff planned, so hang on to your hats and don’t wander too far away from your computer. Be sure to read to the end of the interview to find out how to WIN one of several great prizes being offered up today, including a copy of Changing Times, a $20.00 Amazon.com Gift Card, a psychic reading, recipe cards and more!

Interview:

Hello Marilu, and welcome to Bitten by Books, we are excited to have you here today! Some of our readers may not realize that Marilu Mann is actually comprised of a team of two writers, Arwen and Cai.

BBB: What do you find the most challenging aspect of writing as team versus individuals?

MM: Rachel, thank you so much for taking the time to do this interview. We are really tickled to be here. Probably the toughest challenge is remembering to communicate with one another. After thirty years of friendship, sometimes we make assumptions about where the story is going. Another challenge is in the writing environment. Cai likes music going and Arwen needs silence. Luckily we live in different states so that works out. When we are in the same house, Cai uses earphones or Arwen goes to another room.

We’ve always told each other these stories. Long car trips were accentuated by us playing our various characters and putting them through their paces. We have a series in the works that is actually about some of our earliest imaginary friends.

BBB: What is the most rewarding aspect personally of writing for you as individuals?

Arwen: I like meddling in other peoples lives. I will make a great old maiden aunt with too many cats some day. You know… the one who sits on the porch and tells everyone how to run their lives? By writing, I can get my hand in early and not drive my family to murder–mine!

Cai: Getting these ideas and thoughts that float around in my head out of my head and down on paper. I love having people react - either positively or negatively - to my writing, so having those responses is very rewarding.

BBB: What made you decide to start writing or decide you wanted to become an author?

MM: I think the answer is the same for both of us. From the first time we knew that words put together could tell stories… we wanted to do that. We’ve both been writing since we were very young. Our fateful meeting in 1976 launched a friendship that would withstand many things including divorce, childbirth, the death of parents, and so much more. We began writing with a serious eye towards publication in 2001.

BBB: What do you feel are the benefits of the new electronic readers such as Kindle to the environment?

Arwen: The obvious answer is that it will help save the trees in the long run. What some folks don’t realize is that it will help save them as well. I mean think about it. If you have to pack up a shoe box of memory disks vs. twelve bookshelves…won’t your back and your moving helpers be much happier? And memory disks last longer. I have a paperback in my collection that I can’t even read for fear of it falling apart. It is the very first Harlequin romance I ever owned. And I wish I could reread it for old time’s sake, but at this point, it is fragile. It was printed in 1969. I’ve bought two copies of it since that first copy took an unfortunate swim in a pool. I wish I could download it onto my e-reader!

Cai: There are so many studies going on about whether or not e-book readers are in fact a boon to the environment. I believe the overall consensus right now is that though they’re made of plastic (for the most part) they are, in the long run much better for the environment than cutting down trees and printing books. Don’t get me wrong, I still have a TON of books, but I find that when I’m purchasing NEW books, I tend to look on the e-book sites first and purchase there to download to my e-reader.

BBB: What impact do electronic readers create on the bottom line for Authors in the end? Do you feel they have a negative impact or positive, or no impact at all that you can see?

Arwen: Sadly, there is a very negative impact. People upload e-books to so-called free file sharing sites. Basically they are stealing. Technology is coming that will make files proprietary which is sad because then you will have to have the right reader to enjoy your favorite books. But it is what publishers have had to do in order to combat the unethical among us. For the record, I feel the same way about copying a CD and giving it to someone. I’m stealing from the artist when I do that.

Cai: Also, let’s face it. E-books are still “new and strange” to many people. They want that physical BOOK in their hands. I’ve had several friends tell me that they’ll buy our book when it comes out in print - then when I tell them they might have to wait a year, they look at me like I’ve lost my mind.

BBB: Your book Changing Times that has recently been released by Ellora’s Cave is based in New Orleans. Does one of you live there, or is there another reason you chose that specific setting for the book?

MM: We are both from Louisiana. Cai was born there and Arwen moved there as a child. While we are from north Louisiana, New Orleans has always had such a mysterious quality. And hey! If you were a shifter, wouldn’t you want to live there? Also, New Orleans is one of those cities that just inspires paranormal stories - ask any writer who’s been there - you can’t visit that city without FEELING it - whether you believe yourself to be sensitive to the paranormal or not.

BBB: Who wrote the SUPER steamy sex scene between Tony and Carly or was it a joint effort?

MM: If Cai’s family is reading this article, Arwen wrote ALL the sex scenes. If Arwen’s family is reading, then it was definitely Cai. And that’s as much as we are saying! :)

BBB: What do you find to be the hardest part of writing as a team versus as an individual?

MM: Being long distance writing partners has its drawbacks in that we can’t get an immediate answer. You have to wait for the email to go through or the phone to be picked up. You can’t make an arbitrary decision and not have to answer for it. One of the rewards of that is that when we have to defend our reason for a particular plot point, we often come up with an even better one. Our website is GREATMTA for Great Minds Think Alike!

BBB: What’s next in the Lusting Wild series? Will there be more books?

MM: Oh yes! The second book in the Lusting Wild Series features the bad boy of Changing Times. Malcolm Slade, gets his in Lusting Wild 2: Changing Hearts. He has to completely rethink who and what he is in order to survive. He meets a Cajun treateusse (healer) who shows him what it means to truly trust someone. In Changing Times, he tries to destroy Tony and Carly but ends up changed when he witnesses how they love one another. We knew we had to redeem Slade.

BBB: What other paranormal projects does Marilu Mann have up their sleeve for the rest of the year and heading into 2009?

MM: We are working on book four of the Lusting Wild series which is about a character you meet in book three which is Micah’s story. Micah’s story is on our editor’s desk right now. Then there is our Archangels detective series where each has a very unique gift that they must control or it could destroy them. We are also working on the Seven Sisters series. Seven Fae sisters ho have to find their one true love while fighting off the dark Fae and saving the world. Hey! It’s all in a day’s work, right?

BBB: What is your favorite food? (Readers there may be a test on this later)

Arwen: I love shrimp or chicken Creole. Make it hot and sweet (like Tony and Carly’s story) and you have my full attention!

Cai: Pasta - I love pasta - any type, any style, sauce is irrelevant, other toppings are irrelevant, though one of my favorite things is to combine shrimp with my pasta with a little white sauce…YUM<g>

BBB: What is your favorite paranormal book of all time?

Arwen: Wow! That’s such a hard question. Usually it is the last one I read. LOL! I have a notoriously bad memory. I think I’d have to choose Dragon Heat by Allyson James. It is such a different take on a shifter story. Really liked the sequel as well, The Black Dragon, but Dragon Heat is one that I will read again!

Cai: I’m a HUGE fan of Sherry Kenyon & JR Ward - but there’s no way I could pick just one of their books.

BBB: If you could be any paranormal creature, what would it be and why?

Arwen: I’d be a mermaid. I love the ocean and for once in my life, I’d have a voice as nice as Cai’s singing voice!

Cai: And I’d go straight for the were-world. Probably more a were-cat like our hero, Tony, than a were-wolf.

BBB: Since you are working the shape shifter angle in your current book, are there any plans to do a vampire or other type of creature type series?

MM: We do have a vampire story started, one we continue to go back to from time to time - it’s also set in New Orleans but is still very much in the “planning” stage. One or the other of us will become “obsessed” with a particular story and hound the other until we’ve finished it. Our next release from Ellora’s Cave isn’t paranormal in any sense of the word, but it is a super-sexy novella involving a re-appropriations specialist (read: thief) and a collector of Japanese art. It’s out in September from Ellora’s Cave - part of their Jewels of the Nile series. More details are on our website for anyone who’s interested. http://www.greamta.com

Changing Times by Marilu Mann

*****

Admittedly, this is the absolute first e-book that I have ever purchased and read. I wasn’t sure how I would make it through the book. Surprisingly, using my laptop and reading it sized at 130% went pretty fast. I am SO glad it was Changing Times by Marilu Mann that broke my e-book virginity!!

The story is set in New Orleans, which is one of my favorite cities. It is a shapeshifter tale with a storyline of love, lust, power and ultimate control. Dr. Carly Chambers gets the shock of her life when she is kidnapped to perform surgery on an unusual patient. You see, Tony Pantera claims to be a shapeshifter. Although, her clinical mind takes awhile to finally wrap itself around this information. She finally comes to accept that Tony and the other shifters aren’t delusional based on the things she sees with her own eyes.

While her eyes are opening to these new experiences, she begins to fall in love with the ever-so-sexy Tony. Not surprisingly, Tony is falling hard for Carly as well, but is terrified that he can’t keep her safe from other shifters out to cause him harm. Unfortunately neither of them will get a say in the events that lead them through this tale. The wheels of a bigger plot have already been set in motion, and poor Carly may end up being a victim of unfortunate circumstances.

It is a wonderfully written book. The storyline is solid and entertaining, and it kept me paging through my laptop each night in anticipation of what would come next. The sex scenes are smoking hot and very well written - so well in fact that I am eagerly anticipating the next book in the series! :) It looks like I have another favorite author in Marilu Mann. Get this book today… you will be so glad you did.
