Hex in High Heels by Linda Wisdom

****

Blair has lived in Moonstone Lake for many, many years, long enough to buy most of the land surrounding the town and keep it from being developed. A were pack arrives in town and begins to make threats to the witches who have owned the land for hundreds of years. Blair, her friends, and her boyfriend, Jake, (the town’s resident were- border collie) will do whatever it takes to protect the town from the big bad wolves.

I really enjoyed this book. There were some fluffy elements and, of course, humor. It made it a refreshing break from the day to day troubles of life. Blair is a fun character, and her relationship with Jake had its cute moments and its “awww” moments. The book was enchanting in its own way, and I truly was entertained. I confess, I have not read the series up to this point, but it sounded interesting and I have read some of the synopsis of prior books, so I thought I would be okay. Some references were made to previous books and characters, but overall, I think this book could be read by itself in a pinch. I will have to go back and find the first three books in the series since I enjoyed this book so much. Add this to your reading list; you will laugh and be captivated by Hex in High Heels.

Book Excerpt: In this sexy, funny paranormal romance by bestselling author Linda Wisdom, it’s all beautiful witch Blair Fitzpatrick can do to keep a lid on her talent for revenge spells, but things are about to get a lot more complicated…

Blair loves running her vintage shop and hanging out with witchy friends Stasi and Jazz. She’s forever had a crush on hunky carpenter Jake Harrison, whose Were nature (he’s a Border collie) makes him loyal, lovable, and fierce when need be. Just as sparks are beginning to fly, Blair is served with a big surprise when Jake’s mother shows up along with his pack leader, who threatens to make Jake heel! When the alpha does the unthinkable, Blair is pushed over the edge. No one messes with her boyfriend-to-be, even if he does shed on the furniture!”

A big welcome to our readers today! Be sure to read to the end of the interview to find out how to WIN the fabulous prizes being offered up.

PLEASE KEEP SPOILERS TO A MINIMUM. Not all of the readers today have read Linda’s books.

How The Witches Came Into My Life

Many thanks to Bitten By Books for having me here to talk about witches and how they came to choose me.

As a fan of paranormal books, it was a given I’d start writing them. After writing a few for Harlequin American Romance and Silhouette Intimate Moments, I knew I wanted to write MORE.

The thing is what would I write? My agent at the time suggested dark edgy vampires and while I enjoy reading about them, it didn’t strike a chord with me. I have a dark, demented, and quirky sense of humor. How would that work with the nightwalkers?

What I usually do is let my imagination take over. Think of it as soup simmering on the stove.

Before I knew it, Jazz Tremaine hopped into my head. From the beginning I knew she was a 700+ year young witch who’d been expelled from the Witches Academy. That she eliminated curses, drove a ’57 T-Bird convertible haunted by a cranky ghost, and she wore magick bunny slippers.

Jazz was just the tip of the iceberg and from the first word I wrote I knew witches was what I was supposed to write.

So let’s talk witches. For TV and movie, do you prefer Samantha Stevens, Witches of Eastwick or Practical Magic witches?

If you were a witch what would be your first spell?

Wicked by Any Other Name by Linda Wisdom

Posted under Book Reviews, Gargoyles, Magic, Witches, Wizard by Rachel on Monday 16 March 2009 at 8:04 pm
    *****

Wicked by Any Other Name is the next installment in Linda Wisdom’s witchy series. I have loved the first two books that focused on one of my favorite paranormal characters, Jazz Tremaine. Wicked by Any Other Name shifts into a different direction and comes to land on one amazingly saucy firebrand of a witch. Jazz’s long time friend Stasi Romanov. Honestly I was a bit nervous with the character shift because I love Jazz and company SO much. How could anybody top those characters. Well, it must be magic, because Linda Wisdom not only topped them, but created a whole new eagerness for me as a reader for the next book in the series. Seriously, we had Horace the Gargoyle and Linda her for a guest blog you can check it out here. You can see all the questions I asked her about upcoming books and ideas for the upcoming books. She’s created a world with a myriad of untapped journeys, just waiting to have her and her pen set sail upon!

Imagine if you will the panoramic views of the mountains and the lovely environment of Moonstone Lake. Home to Stasi and Blair the town witches. Witches that were also cast out from witch school with their life long friend Jazz Tremain. Even though they are powerful witches, they keep to themselves and create a fairly strong barrier around the town to keep it safe and quiet. Each of them runs their own specialty store catering to the locals and the thriving tourist trade. Staci’s specialty is lingere. Then one day out of the blue, things start to take a turn for the worse. Stasi is being sued by an angry customer for supposedly ruining her marriage (to her 4th husband) by using “black” witchcraft.

Things only take a turn for the worse from there. Trevor Barnes the sexiest wizard to every practice law is heading up the case against Stasi in Wizard’s Court. To make matters worse, there is some kind of evil entity enshrouding Moonstone Lake which only adds fuel to the brewing witch hunt and the all to real fire.

Wicked by Any Other Name may be seen as a light-hearted fun read. But there are some core truths that literally come blazing out. It shows how one person’s ignorance and intolerance can turn into a cesspool of ugliness in a very short period of time. How lives can be shattered and ruined by intolerance and hatred.

While I enjoyed this romp through Stasi’s life and the fun times with her perverted gargoyle Horrace. I also appreciated this reminder of how important it is to maintain balance in our core values. To honor and respect one another no matter what our religious beliefs and ideals may be. The storyline is face paced, and exciting. The romantic entanglements are enchanting to say the least. I am really looking forward to the next installment of this amazing series.

Check out this fun presentation Linda put together to give you a sneak peak into her amazing story! Just click the middle of the pictures and it will open in a new window.

    Hex Appeal by Linda Wisdom

Posted under Book Reviews, Magic, Vampires, Witches by Rachel on Wednesday 1 October 2008 at 3:03 pm
    *****

She’s baaack! Jazz Tremaine that is, and oh boy are you all in for a treat even better than the last one we got in 50 Ways to Hex Your Lover. There’s some hexing going on, but it isn’t Jazz throwing out her radical flame balls at her on again off again (now VERY on again) lover Nick.

Fluff and Puff the naughty magical bunny slippers that Jazz rescued from a sadistic wizard are up to their fluffballs in trouble. They are being frame blamed for the murder of a weasely little carnie named Willie. To top it all off, Jazz is being plagued by nightmares that even Stephen King would cringe over. Functioning on less and less sleep each day, will Jazz be able to clear Fluff and Puff and save them from the ruling council who may just eradicate them from the stratosphere for good? Will she figure out who’s hassling her dreams in time to save herself and my favorite cast of characters from some unknown evil? Trek on down to your local Target store TODAY for the early release of Hex Appeal to find out (what? You thought I would TELL? sheez)!!

My list of favorite authors grows each year. I have authors I really love and then their are the authors like Linda Wisdom that I absolutely adore and pine for their next installment to hit the shelves. This latest story in her ever popular series did not disappoint, and left this reviewer wondering how she could possibly top 50 Ways to Hex Your Lover the first book in the series. I didn’t think she could do it in this book, yet here she is pulling yet another rabbit (slipper even) out of her hat. A truly magical read that will leave you guessing right up until the very end. So, don’t just sit there, get your copy without delay. Because I said so damn it!

50 Ways to Hex Your Lover by Linda Wisdom

Posted under Book Reviews, Vampires, Witches by Rachel on Tuesday 20 May 2008 at 6:52 pm
    *****

Linda Wisdom is a very gifted author who has been writing books for a long time, but this is my first time to have the pleasure of reading one of them. This is another book that I stumbled upon at the bookstore and hadn’t heard of. The cover art is fantastic, and it immediately caught my eye.

I love witchy paranormals, because I can relate to them really well, (LOL) so the story of Jasmine “Jazz” Tremaine, a 700 year old witch, and her on again, off again, sexy vampire boyfriend Nick (to the tune of 300 years) really held my attention. This is a funny read that has a cast of crazy paranormal characters that will keep you in stitches. It also has a great mysterious storyline that Ms. Wisdom has magically woven in between some hot and heavy romantic interludes between Jazz and her sexy hunk of vampire boyfriend.

Somebody is sucking the vampire pool dry. Now it is up to Jazz and Nick (with a little help from Norma the chain smoking ghost who lives in her car) to find out who it is and stop them from destroying this ancient race and moving up the food chain to other magical creatures. Our heroine will have to face her deepest, darkest fears and overcome an evil so great she’s not sure she has the strength to do it. Find out who Fluff and Puff are and come back to tell us about them, and share your favorite characters in this magical tale. Be sure to get your copy of Hex Appeal book two in the Hex Your Lover series pre-ordered right away. It is due out in October 2008!
