About the Author:
Donna Grant is the award winning author of more than twenty novels spanning multiple genres of romance – Scottish Medieval, historical, dark fantasy, time travel, erotic, and paranormal.

Donna was born and raised in Texas but loves to travel. Her adventures have taken her throughout the United States as well as to Jamaica and Mexico. Growing up on the Texas/Louisiana border, Donna’s Cajun side of the family taught her the “spicy” side of life while her Texas roots gave her two-steppin’ and bareback riding.

Her childhood dream was to become a professional ballet dancer and study under the amazing Mikhail Baryshnikov. Though she never got to meet Baryshnikov, she did make it to New York City and performed in the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade. Later, Donna’s love of the romance genre and the constant stories running through her head prompted her to sit down and write her first book. Once that book was completed, there was no turning back.

Forbidden Highlander by Donna Grant

SEXY, SENSUAL, HUMOROUS, ROMANTIC and men in KILTS….. do I need to go on with this review of the second book in the Dark Sword series by Donna Grant, which is just as seductive as the first? With the continuing stories of the Highland Lairds, who have to share their bodies with the gods that the evil dark magic cursed them with so long ago, we fall in love more and more with Donna’s sexy Scots and the strong and brave women who step up to stand beside the men they love.

Still reeling from their latest battle with the evil Diedre and her abduction of his youngest brother Galen, Fallon MacLeod makes his way to Edinburgh Castle in his quest to see the King and request his family’s properties be returned. The Laird had not been out of his castle in 300 years and this foray into the human world was only the first step that he would take to get his brother back and get rid of the evil Druid forever. When he sees the lovely Larena Monroe, he can feel the draw towards the sexy woman, and when she shows up uninvited in his chambers, he is tested as his carnal desires must be put aside until he can determine which side the sinfully luscious woman is on.

Larena Monroe has known the heartache of losing her entire family. Not to Diedre’s wicked hand, like the clan MacLeod had faced, but due to the jealousy of her own family when her cousin was passed over by the gods who had made warriors out of the Lairds of the clans. Living the last century as the only woman warrior had been hard when the goddess chose her, not only to be the keeper of a valuable scroll but to be the only woman warrior known to anyone. Larena’s only friend was a cousin who, although much younger than the lovely warrior, treated her as a sister and kept her secret while aiding her in the battle against the evil wyrrans (Diedre’s pet minions). Meeting the sexy Fallon, she knew he would be able to help her in her quest to keep the scroll safe, but would her heart be safe from the heat that flared between the two at first sight?

Fallon knew he needed to continue on his quest to help free his brother from the clutches of Diedre, but realized the woman warrior that brought back his dormant sexual desires after three centuries needed his ai, as well. Returning to his castle, Fallon tries to keep himself away from her, but despite his feelings that she is keeping secrets from him, he puts his trust in her to help in the fight against Diedre. While rebuilding their home and the village surrounding it, the warriors make plans to give Diedre the scroll she is searching for in return for Galen’s release…. a scroll that contains the names of all the warriors still hidden from her, a scroll that they have no idea is closer than they think. While attacks on both the castle and on ones they love bring them closer, a vow made to protect and the secrets kept from each other threaten to pull the lovers apart. With Diedre’s continued assaults against the clan MacLeod, the warriors find aid coming from a very questionable source, and with this information the two come to decisions concerning themselves and those that fight along side of them that will impact not only the battle, but their own relationship, as well.

Forbidden Highlander was amazing…. I love Donna Grant and her brilliant mind that has given me these sexy warriors. Highland Lairds who are part man, part god, and totally sinful make me want to snag one of my own…. I have already sent the request to the author as to putting dibs on one or two stories who are to follow in this series as MINE. Fallon and Larena are both strong and determined and must face not only the battle of defeating an evil mistress, but the internal battle of finding a way to trust each other so they can give each other the truest and purest love within their hearts. Both have been hurt, both have not chosen the path that their life has followed, but both have risen to the call and place their family above all and now are given the chance to be with their ultimate perfect partner. Have I said I love  Forbidden Highlander?….If you love romance, sexy highland men, strong beautiful women, battles of good over evil, suspense and humor with a touch of paranormal, please go and get this book….. you will be as addicted as I am.

Dangerous Highlander by Donna Grant

*****

Ms. Grant has delivered the first book in another fantastic series that melds the paranormal with the historical life of the Scottish highlander in this arousing and exciting adventure. The men of MacLeod castle are a delicious combination of devoted brother, loyal highlander Lord and demonic God that ooze sex appeal and inspire some very erotic daydreams as they face their faults and accept their fate.

Cara cannot remember much from her childhood before she was found wandering alone and taken to live with the sisters in the convent. Prepared to give her life to the sisters and take her vows, she never imagined the consequences that would follow as she plucked the medicinal mushrooms that grew close to the ruins of the haunted castle. When the storm approached out of nowhere, she was stunned at its ferocity as it seemed to target her alone and the magical necklace she held that was her only tie to her mother.

Lucan had taken the role of leader of his brothers since they had escaped the confines of the evil Deidre’s mountain. In over 300 years, he had never taken his needs into consideration as he dealt with Fallon’s lack of sobriety and Quinn’s suppressed anger, but when the chestnut-haired woman ignored the warnings and came closer and closer to the castle despite the growing storm, he was captivated with not only her beauty but her strength of determination. When the ground split beneath her and she was about to fall to her death down to the rocks on the coastline, he released his demon and saved her and, despite his brothers’ protests, brought the waif into the castle.

Despite the attraction, Lucan forces himself to deny his desires as they begrudgingly accept that Cara will be staying with the brothers for the foreseeable future when the castle is attacked by warriors under Diedre’s thumb as well as her diminutive, ghastly creatures, the wyrran. With the village destroyed and all its inhabitants slaughtered, the MacLeods must now try and find out the reason why not only did the warriors want a piece of them but were after Cara as well. With the training that Lucan begins to aid Cara in defending against creatures she never knew existed, the two solve more of the mystery surrounding Cara and the unknown attraction Deidre has for her. They soon give in and find solace in each other despite the misgivings of the other MacLeod brothers. Cara decides to accept that the magic they have found within her might be tainted by her mother’s blood sacrifice and leaves only to find other warriors that want to band together to defeat the evil that Diedre has used over the centuries against the mighty highlanders of Scotland. The ultimate battle will bring more sacrifice as the new group of warriors must find a way to trust each other and the purity of Cara’s magic to pull them through while facing their own demons.

I was captivated by the dangerously sexy highlanders from page one as Ms. Grant once again delighted me with her visions of seductive, luscious and hunky beefcakes that not only oozed testosterone but stalwart love and devotion to each other that was stimulating in itself. The blossoming romance between the hero and heroine was beautiful, and the erotic scenes of their love play an arousing treat. I found that the balance between the romance and the dangerous predicament of the group was accomplished without sacrificing the flow of the book itself and left me begging for more at the end of this first in the series.

    Dangerous Magic by Donna Grant

Posted under Adult Content, Book Reviews, Magic, Psychics, Witches, e-books by Hockeyvamp on Sunday 13 December 2009 at 2:56 pm
    *****

The final book in Donna Grant’s Sisters of Magic series is a paranormal fantasy that delivers intense suspense, sultry, sexy love scenes and smart and magical characters that combine to give the reader a fantastic resolution to this imaginative series.

Cade has long stayed close enough to his brothers in arms to protect them from the evil that follows them but far enough away from them to protect them from his own self and the darkness that is winning its control over him. His refusal to speak with anyone, including his friend Drogan, while he camps in the forest of Wolfglynn leads to everyones amazement when he not only speaks but interacts with the lovely bana-bhuidseach.

Francesca has had dream vision since she was ten summers and she, too, knows the evil that is hunting them all and her part in defeating him for good. She is a witch and, like the others, she believes in the curse that has followed their kind for centuries. Even with her desire for the mysterious Cade, she is reluctant to give her heart only to lose everything to the curse. After a brief conversation with the elusive Cade, the man of her dreams, she finds herself in awe as he steps in before her to counter the attack on her and a bunch of children of a wolf sent by Nigel. His injury gives her cause to pursue him in the hopes of helping him heal, but the two are forced to deal with their growing attraction to each other in the midst of preparing for Nigel’s attack on their friends.

Cade’s determination to keep everyone away from him so they are not tainted by his darkness only propels his friends and lover to pull him into their lives even more. The closer the two get, the more powerful Francesca’s powers grow until she sees the final outcome of the battle but keeps the information to herself. When they face the evil, it is the power of love that once again proves that it is the denominator that could change the outcome of the battle.

I was captivated by this book and the series as a whole. It was a visually and emotionally-charged tale of one of life’s oldest battles. Ms. Grant’s characters were strong and capable as they forged on to find true love despite their beliefs that the darkness had the power to take them all over and take what they held most dear away from them.

Echoes of Magic by Donna Grant

Posted under Adult Content, Book Reviews, Magic, Witches, e-books by Hockeyvamp on Sunday 13 December 2009 at 2:56 pm
    ****½

The bana-bhuidseach witches are cursed from birth to never have their lovers survive or stay with them passed the third month of their children’s birth. For this reason, the women have held their hearts to themselves as to not feel the pain of betrayal and loss. A curse that was placed by one of their own had dwindled the once populous race to very few who would fight for their lovers and to take the power of the curse away for good.

Adrianna was unprepared when she and the band of traveling gypsies stopped for a meal and she found a bloodied hand under a copse of brush. Attached to the hand was the barely alive warrior that took her breath away as she used all her magic to save his life. Grayson had been attacked by the same evil that had followed his Lord Drogan of Wolfglynn to his home and now Grayson was on a quest to find answers of his own parentage. The fact that the evil had followed him and left him for dead was heavy on his mind as he recuperated from his wounds with the help of the witch, the bana-bhuidseach . Knowing that the taint would follow them, Adrianna decides to leave the gypsies that she has come to love as family and go with Grayson on his search for answers. The two fight the inevitable as they travel to find answers to Grayson’s past, and despite the curse of her ancestor, Drina falls for the handsome knight. As they meet with and battle a pair of the evil Lord Nigel’s knights, they draw from each other’s powers without knowing they are doing so. When the two finally get to the castle, Grayson is stunned to find his mother healthy and whole within the bailey’s walls. Her sacrifice to save her son after Nigel declared he had killed the young lad’s father, William, the rightful Lord of Hawksbridge, leaves Grayson leery of her true intentions despite his desire to hold fast to her recollections as truth. The two join forces to fight the evil, but when the final battle with Nigel is fought, he finds a way to escape even though there in nothing but pieces of him left after Grayson is done with him, proving that there is no soul within the shell of a man that is walking the earth. Grayson learns of other truths and family members which lead him to rethink his stance of his hatred of his mother and her actions over the years.

This is another emotionally charged and exciting chapter in the Sisters of Magic series. It is a fantastic blend of the paranormal, action adventure and romantic love story all rolled into a magical experience for the reader.

    Shadow Magic by Donna Grant

Posted under Adult Content, Book Reviews, Magic, Witches, e-books by Hockeyvamp on Sunday 13 December 2009 at 2:55 pm
    ****½

Serena of Hawthorne was a witch known as a bana-bhuidseach and thusly had no chance of capturing the attention and devotion of her desire, Lord Drogan of Wolfglynn. Lord Gerard Hawthorne and his wife, Maris, were considered her dear friends, and because of this, her status as a witch was safe in the village. With her mother gone, Serena thought herself the last of the bana-bhuidseach as the curse had taken most of their people and hatred of the unknown many of the rest. When Drogan and Gerard’s former commander, who had been taken over by the darkness and was now a soulless creature, attacks them, they decide to escape to Drogan’s castle for the safety of their young daughter and themselves.

Leaving under cover of the night, Serena meets up with another of her kind, and it is decided that to keep everyone safe, the two groups must divide to set the evil on the path away from the young family.

Drogan is captivated by the beauty of the witch, but her belief in the curse put on their kind by one of their own centuries ago keeps her at arms length. When the two finally give in to the desires they are feeling for each other, they find that the danger has closed in on them so they make a final dash to the castle and safety. Serena’s ability to see a person’s death leads them to make plans to take care of the evil Nigel once and for all.

The battle finds itself playing out as planned, but when Nigel is cut into, they find no blood on their swords, proving beyond doubt that the stench of evil that he exudes is beyond anything they had ever seen before. Gaining the upper hand, the Drogan battles and believes that he has defeated the darkness that Nigel has become but has only managed to defeat the darkness within himself thanks to the love of his witch.

This is the first of three in the Sisters of Magic series by Donna Grant. I was enchanted by the magically written story of good versus evil that was intertwined with a romantic and sensual love story. The combination of the family curse and the curse of dealing with one’s own past mistakes and foibles make it a compelling and interesting read. I am looking forward to the coming books in the series
