War In Darkness: Addicted to Cyn and Scarlet Love by Christy Poff
War in Darkness
Petersburg, Virginia 1865
Jude Buckman is a vampire who leads a unit that takes out line officers, weapon specialists, snipers and other important people in the dead of night. Lucynda (Cyn) Benson would follow the soldiers into battle. She would help those that did not need surgery and nurse them as best she could.
While trying to protect a soldier, Cyn was hit in the back with shrapnel as a cannonball went off near them. Jude ran over to her and wrapped her in his jacket to keep warm when she complained about being cold. He took her to an abandoned cabin and tried his best to save her. Once she was stable, he took her to the plantation he lived in. Her injuries worsened and he had to give her the choice of either dying or dying and being reborn as a vampire.
Jude fell for Cyn hard and fast. Christy Poff seems to write the perfect male heroes. They love their woman without question. Can she write me one of my own? Emma, a secondary character was well written and in the short time she was in the book, you knew that she cared for her employer and the woman he brought home.
Scarlet Love
Perryville, Kentucky October 8, 1862
Aubry Nichols is getting ready to flee her home when three soldiers break in to her home and accuse her of being a rebel. When she won’t give them the information they are looking for, they knock her out and tie her to a tree. Dressed as a soldier, Trent Austin walks into the camp where Aubry is being held. He makes small talk with the soldiers and leaves after having a cup of coffee. A few minutes later a large animal kills two of the men and leaves the last one babbling. Trent comes back to camp and unties her from the tree. When they touch, it feels like lightning is striking between them. Trent now knows that she is his mate, his wolf, but how will she react to that? Trent is captured, but will Aubry save him or herself?
I enjoyed this book a lot. Christy Poff is great at writing shapeshifters. Trent is just another yummy hero that she put on paper. The ending is predictable, but the story is exciting and heartwarming.
