War in Darkness
Petersburg, Virginia 1865

Jude Buckman is a vampire who leads a unit that takes out line officers, weapon specialists, snipers and other important people in the dead of night. Lucynda (Cyn) Benson would follow the soldiers into battle. She would help those that did not need surgery and nurse them as best she could.

While trying to protect a soldier, Cyn was hit in the back with shrapnel as a cannonball went off near them. Jude ran over to her and wrapped her in his jacket to keep warm when she complained about being cold. He took her to an abandoned cabin and tried his best to save her. Once she was stable, he took her to the plantation he lived in. Her injuries worsened and he had to give her the choice of either dying or dying and being reborn as a vampire.

Jude fell for Cyn hard and fast. Christy Poff seems to write the perfect male heroes. They love their woman without question. Can she write me one of my own? Emma, a secondary character was well written and in the short time she was in the book, you knew that she cared for her employer and the woman he brought home.

Scarlet Love
Perryville, Kentucky October 8, 1862

Aubry Nichols is getting ready to flee her home when three soldiers break in to her home and accuse her of being a rebel. When she won’t give them the information they are looking for, they knock her out and tie her to a tree. Dressed as a soldier, Trent Austin walks into the camp where Aubry is being held. He makes small talk with the soldiers and leaves after having a cup of coffee. A few minutes later a large animal kills two of the men and leaves the last one babbling. Trent comes back to camp and unties her from the tree. When they touch, it feels like lightning is striking between them. Trent now knows that she is his mate, his wolf, but how will she react to that? Trent is captured, but will Aubry save him or herself?

I enjoyed this book a lot. Christy Poff is great at writing shapeshifters. Trent is just another yummy hero that she put on paper. The ending is predictable, but the story is exciting and heartwarming.

Valeria Dunn works at the wolf sanctuary in North Carolina. After a going away party for a friend, she begins to hear voices in her head. Her eyes are sensitive towards light and her hearing is much improved. She writes it off as too much fun on the weekend.

Gabriel Hunt is a wolf that needs a change of scenery. After losing the woman he loves to another, he needs to get away. With a letter of introduction to the pack in North Carolina to join them, Gabriel takes off across the country.

After a few days on the road, Gabriel makes it to his destination in North Carolina. He is to report to the pack leader, Deacon. He thinks he is going into a meeting of introduction, instead Deacon asks him to find out who is threatening the pack and why. While investigating he ends up at the wolf sanctuary and meets with Valeria. Valeria takes him on a tour of the sanctuary and they find an injured rare red wolf with pups. Instead of giving Valeria a chance to help the wolf, Gabriel calls in reinforcements and blames her for the injured wolf. Of course being Valeria, she follows and gives him hell which makes him extremely attracted.

This was the fourth book in the Eyes of Darkness series. Red Fire picks up where book two, Spark of a Wolf, leaves off. After losing the woman he loves to another alpha, Gabriel will find his own mate. What a pair they are, too. Gabriel is the alpha and dominates in this relationship - and it looks good on him, too. Valeria is tough on the outside but has that soft spot for Gabriel and is not afraid to let her guard down around him. These two together could melt the paint on a car and make you cry on the next page. When Christy Poff wrote these two together, she knew what she was doing. We should all be lucky to find love that deep and powerful.

Galen Beaumont resides in Paris, France in 1409. He is set to marry the woman he loves and take over the family business. He is happy and looks forward to spending the rest of his life loving his wife. Twenty years later, Galen loses his wife and son in childbirth.

Madison Clarke Allcott lives in San Francisco, California in 1890. She has just buried her husband of less than a month. He was fine one day and gone the next.

Madison has been left everything by her deceased husband, Geoffry Allcott. His money, home and businesses are now hers. While she is crying after the service, his ghost comes and warns her of danger; Jonathon Wingate wants her property and is willing to do anything to get it. Geoffry tells her to go to Galen for help or protection if she needs it. Once Jonathon starts harassing her, she seeks Galen’s protection. A small kiss turns into a little nibble. Galen wants her but will not force her; she must come to him of her own free will. He was not given the chance and will not take that from her.

This is the third installment in the Eyes of Darkness series. Christy Poff took you from 1409 to 1890 with a few relationships in between. It was interesting to see that Galen was as loving with Madison after what he had been through. Madison may have come across as fluff but she was more of a lioness when cornered. Poor Geoffry - at least he was able to love her for a while until Galen could come and save her. I enjoyed the story but felt that some of the plot had been rushed. I think Madison’s mother-in-law was a bit too understanding.

Spark of a Wolf by Christy Poff

Rhiannan (Rhi) Drake is a guide both private and for the national park she lives near. One week a month, she takes time for herself. No one knows why, and she likes it that way so she can keep to herself.

Sean McMurray was once in the Special Forces as a tracker but now is a Detective for the Aspen Police Department. He keeps having nightmares, so he uses alcohol to sleep through the night.

Sean is working on a case with three murders all with the same MO. His best friend and partner is Hunter Lockwood. Together, they are looking for a serial killer who uses his victims as pin cushions and dumps them like trash. While investigating the case, Sean goes to Rhi to find out if she has seen anything unusual. What he finds is his mate, and the attraction is instant for both. In his nightmares, a wolf comes to him and tells him that his soulmate will help him understand his heritage. The same wolf comes to Rhi and tells her that she must bring her mate to The Sanctuary where they can help him deal with the secret he does not want to deal with. While there, Sean and Rhi argue, and he pushes her away. When danger threatens Rhi, Sean cannot help but save her and possibly himself.

Spark of a Wolf is the second book in the Eyes of Darkness series. The story line for the serial killer was imaginative, to say the least. It was kind of twisted, but in a good way. I love serial killers but never hope to meet one, if you know what I mean. I did feel that the attraction and sudden love between Sean and Rhi in the beginning was a bit quick. However, Christy Poff made the couple grow together and learn that they had more than just themselves to look out for. Spark of a Wolf can be read as a stand alone book.

Dantes Flame by Christy Poff

Melanie Walters is a paralegal looking for love in all the wrong places. Her boyfriend just dumped her, and now she wants to feel good about herself.

Jacob Dante owns Club Dante. He is an old vampire that was changed against his will by a woman with whom he thought he was in love.

Melanie was dumped by her ex-boyfriend for an artist. Ever since, she has been dating men and going to clubs to find the one. Each time she does, he ends up going home with someone else and not her. She has no idea what she is doing wrong either. Jacob has seen Melanie in his club and is infatuated with her. He wants her for the rest of his immortal life. Jacob promises himself to give her the choice, but can he follow through if she says no?

This book had such great potential from the beginning. It flowed so well in the first few chapters. I liked Dante and Melanie and I think there was a bit of chemistry, but I just wished that we could have gotten to know them better. Dante’s past was written really well, and I could get angry with him about his turning and his experiences. Melanie seemed very sweet but could have used a bit more depth.
