Marti Bell is a producer of educational videos for HMI, or Holiday Media International. At the age of 37, she has already been divorced and now is seeing a married man from work. Marti has no friends and her family is just horrible to her. Her self esteem needs a BIG boost.

Cliff Holmes is a freelance photographer that sometimes works with HMI. On the outside, it looks like he lives the jet set life, but in reality, he is just a guy. His memories of past jobs are weighing him down, and Cliff looks to Wherever Island as a chance to unwind.

It is almost Christmas and Marti is waiting for her flight home for the holidays. At the airport, she bumps into Cliff on her way to the gate. She misses her connection flight to Minneapolis and calls home to find out that her family blames her for ruining Christmas. Not wanting to deal with that situation, she decides to exchange her ticket to wherever. The Santa hat-wearing ticket agent takes her at her word, books her on a flight to Wherever Island. What a coincidence, Cliff is on the flight, too. So the question is, was that one of Santa’s helpers at the ticket counter or is it the island magic trying to make a match?

This is a wonderful story by Amber Polo. Marti is so focused on her boyfriend that she forgets about herself and her needs. For once, she will give to herself. Cliff comes off as cocky in the beginning of the story, but as it goes on, you see him in a different light. He becomes more approachable, and that façade he shows everyone drops away. I want a ticket, too!

Romancing Rebecca by Amber Polo

There is so much I could say about Romancing Rebecca, but it would give away some of the amazing storyline. So, let me try and sum it up this way. When I first started reading the book, I wasn’t sure I would like it. It starts out with a pretty stiff dame named Rebecca Dumarier (which is a classic last name isn’t it?) who is a New York literary attorney. She lands in Sedona for a much needed break from work and to mend a broken heart, only to immediately run into (literally) a visiting Guru. But he’s not your average wrinkly old dude with a white beard eight miles long on top of a mountain chanting sacred mumblings that sound like he’s got peanut butter in his mouth. No, he’s a sexy trance channeler (and I am here to tell you folks the word sexy and trance channeler don’t usually go together well in the same sentence) named Tom Paxton. Tom’s at the same resort as Rebecca along with his daughter and ex-wife who still happens to be his tour manager.

All she wants to do is relax, but somehow she gets roped into spending time with Tom’s teenage daughter who’s got a mind and a soul older than she should have for her age. To top it off, a mysterious stranger shows up and starts showering her with Godiva, champagne and a passion she’s never known. Since it is set in Sedona we have to have some weirdness don’t we? Of course we do! Folks get out your colanders and tin foil, put them on your heads and tune into this one.

Having a back ground in Woo Woo myself makes this an engaging and humorous tale. Though you don’t have to have that background to enjoy this story. The facts and information on the metaphysical and the “lingo” were all used correctly as well, which is a big plus in my book (no pun intended). There are several sub plots that weave in and out of the main storyline very nicely. There was a point or two where I was a bit lost, but for how much was going on in this story, I think Amber Polo pulled it together like a prize fighter.

Romancing Rebecca is a book I would recommend to friends and foes (lol) alike, and actually one I would read again. For those of you who know me, I rarely read anything twice. This book has it all, humor, love, intrigue, paranormal, suspense, woo woo and is tastefully done.
