In The Gloaming is an anthology with five different faerie stories. The first story is At The Edge of Twilight by Cora Zane. After Colleen O’Shea leaves her ex husband George, she decides to go back home to the house her aunt had left her 6 years before. While sitting on the back porch swing of her house she hears music and searches for where it is coming from. She meets a handsome stranger named Rowen that takes her into the forest and shows her his world hoping that she will stay with him. I know that this story was short and all, but I did feel the ending was a bit rushed. Colleen was well written but Rowen didn’t seem to have much dimension.

The second story, Robin’s Red Cap by Esmerelda Bishop was a story about a couple on the skids going on a vacation together in Scotland. Graham Parrish is going to get his girl back after she found out he had lied to her. Kat Davis is going because she did not want the money to go to waste after paying for the trip. They end up in a nightmare in a Scotland castle. Robin Red Cap likes to torture his victims and that is just what he does. I really liked this story a lot. I think the plot was well thought out and Robin Red Cap was creepy scary. Graham and Kat played well off of each other and even had some funny moments in between the torture.

The third story is The Icicle by K.M. Frontain. Elli has a cast on her leg because she tried to kick her step brother. Elli, her step brother Glenn, her mother and his dad are all on vacation in wintery Norway. Elli decides to relax in the hot tub while her family goes out sightseeing and ends up seduced by the glowing men. Glenn finds her and they end up trying to see the glowing men again. This story bounced from scene to scene and confused me more than entertained me. The plot changed too many times to keep up with. Elli seemed rude but Glenn was good hero material.

The fourth story and my favorite is The Dream by Nita Wick. Katie Callahan is on vacation in Scotland because she loves the old legends and the magic that it holds. After getting lost in the forest she stops to rest on a bridge and falls asleep. She wakes up to find a troll yelling at her and the man literally of her dreams. Aiden McLain saves her from the troll and tries to lead her out of the forest. They end up in the gloaming. Together they try to return to the human world. I absolutely loved this story! Who can resist a Scotsman? No, I am serious. The way Aiden touches Katie and the words that he says to her just make you want to sigh.

The last story is The Enchanted Meadow by Kelley Heckart. Taran is the leader of warriors in charge of guarding his father, the king’s cattle. The meadow that Taran decides to use for winter grazing seems too perfect but he cannot figure out why. Alina is cursed in a tree and tries to reach out to Taran for help but her task his harder because she has no voice. Taran tries to use the druid ways to save her and them all. I enjoyed this story as well. I liked the characters and the plot was well thought out. It had just the right amount of myth and magic. Taran and Alina were one of those couple you cannot help but hope they are able to be together at the end.

Thank you for reviewing our book, Megan. I’m glad you enjoyed it. And I’m not surprised you liked Aidan so much. I fell in love with him, too. :-) It’s a lot of fun to write a character like that.
