Under Darkness by Savannah Russe
Daphne Urban’s heart matches the weather outside: cold and heavy. Fitz is as safe as Daphne can make him and on the run for the rest of his life. Darius is in Germany with his band and fellow band member/partner, Julie, who is a vampire hunter.
The Darkwings are enjoying some well-deserved down time when terrorists strike again. This time, though, the target is unknown. The means is unknown. The terrorist are unknown. Only the Darkwings can keep the citizens of New York City from experiencing another catastrophe.
Daphne is shocked to find out from her mother that Darius is no longer in Germany. The return of Darius brings with it the return of the vampire hunters. Daphne believes Darius has nothing to do with the hunters’ return, but can she prove it? Caught between the unknown movements of the terrorists and the vampire hunters’ increasing number of attacks on the Darkwings and other vampires in New York City, the Darkwings need to come up with a plan to even the playing field.
Mar-Mar’s antics continue to give Daphne fits. In the end, we have to wonder if she has gone too far this time.
The trials that the Darkwings face continue to be new and fresh, fast paced and exciting. Savannah keeps the reader hooked by showing new insights into her character’s lives and introducing new members of their society. Savannah’s characters are well rounded individuals who are believable members of society, and I find myself wishing to meet them for a beer and some light-hearted conversation.
