In the Blood by Savannah Russe
Daphne Urban, shopping aficionado, spy, and vampire trying to plan a wedding and not bite the neck of her human groom. Appetites rekindled after the last Darkwing mission have her shaking from the amount of self- control the simple task of not drinking fresh human blood requires. So when her R&R is canceled due to a new emergency, Daphne is glad to have something to keep her mind and her body busy.
Ten girls are kidnapped. They are all daughters of rich families with strong ties to the White House. The kidnappers demand diamonds and military hardware the United States is not willing to part with. When it becomes obvious the kidnapping is only a cover for a terrorist attack, Daphne and the team must rush to find the girls. Down in numbers due to death and defection, the remaining Darkwings are instructed by their handler to go in search of new talent and find themselves in all of the places Daphne hoped to avoid in order to keep her vampire appetites in check.
To top everything off, Daphne’s mother has given her an ultimatum: turn St. Julien Fitzmaurice into a vampire or he dies. No stress here though!
This story is a fun read. Anyone with a mother who cares enough to constantly harass and harangue you will understand Daphne’s angst and agitation. Savannah’s knowledge of New York City is an asset. She is able to help me to feel like I know where things are even though I have no idea of how NYC is laid out. The introduction of new cast members keeps the story fresh and moving. I am exited to see where the Darkwings will go from here. Savannah has me hooked! She is a roaring good time!
