Skin Trade by Laurell K. Hamilton
Anita Blake returns in her 17th book. This time, she’s in Las Vegas, hunting for the vampire who sent her a little present. She meets three other marshals whom she has worked with in the past in order to hunt a serial killing vampire. Anita will need them to help her as she struggles to deal with the shapeshifter side of her and the struggles for dominance that ensue within her and the Las Vegas tiger pack, whom she suspects could be behind some of the goings on. Will she be able to win the game that the vampire wants her to play?
I give Skin Trade 5 tombstones. Its been awhile since I’ve read an Anita Blake book and I confess, I have never read the series in order. I really enjoyed Skin Trade. It was almost a throw back to the beginning of the series. Jean-Claude and Anita’s “men” are very minor players in this book, and it focuses more on her as a vampire hunter and less on the erotic side of her succubus abilities. There are some references I may have failed to catch since I read this one way out of order, but it reminded me of my love of Laurell K. Hamilton’s works and makes me want to go back and read what I have missed in the interim. If you enjoyed early Anita Blake, you will definitely enjoy this book! And if you’ve enjoyed the series up to this point, this is not a book you want to miss!
Book Excerpt: “When a vampire serial killer sends Anita Blake a grisly souvenir from Las Vegas, she has to warn Sin City’s local authorities what they’re dealing with. Only it’s worse than she thought. Ten officers and one executioner have been slain—paranormal style. Anita heads to Vegas, where’s she’s joined by three other federal marshals, including the ruthless Edward. It’s a good thing he always has her back, because when she gets close to the bodies, Anita senses “tiger” too strongly to ignore it. The weretigers are very powerful in Las Vegas, which means the odds of her rubbing someone important the wrong way just got a lot higher.”

Nice to have her on her own without having to deal with her “men”. Should keep the focus on the plot action.

I loved this one. Seems LKH is backing off from the intense sex for a bit with Anita. She (LKH) had her release party right her in her hometown, at the public library, and it was a blast. She signed books, took pictures (Igot one of me with her) and gave away a ton of t-shirts (with a vampire penguin on it)This is my year of indulgence, so I went, bought my book and enjoyed myself.

I’m glad to hear about how there was minimal sex and more plot than drama. Hopefully LKH will go back to the way it was at the beginning of the Anita books.

I really want to read this one. Since I’m new to Laurell K. Hamilton, I should probably read the rest of the Anita Blake Series first.
