Red Sage Authors Truth Or Dare Day!

Posted under Contests, Guest Bloggers by Site Hostess on Monday 15 June 2009 at 10:39 am

Bitten By Books: Welcome to our visiting Red Sage authors! We could talk about Red Sage’s Fifteenth Anniversary Sale, or all the hot Secrets stories we’ve read over the years, but let’s make this a real party! How about a game of Truth or Dare?

Nathalie Gray: Me! Me! I want to play, and I choose Dare!

Bitten By Books: Right. We dare you to let one of our readers name a character in one of your books!

Nathalie Gray: Can you name that villain? Villains are cool like merde and like mon dieu. Suggest a name so awesome, so vile and…well…villainous (getit, getit? Villainous?) that it’ll blind readers with the concentrated power of its awesomeness. E-mail your monstrous creations to mail@nathaliegray.com, or post them here in a comment no later than June 30.

I will tally the names, make a nice list, then publish them on Red Sage’s blog as well as my own site. Not only will I display these names and their awesome creators, I’ll also put in a wicked assortment of comments that go with each. Want some public adulation for your power of villain-naming? BAM. Here it goes.

With the aid of a state-of-the-art, highly scientific method, I will choose a winner. When the book releases, not only will the creator of the villain’s name be able to giggle maniacally knowing he or she contributed to the character’s baddie factor, he or she will also be the recipient of one effusive author acknowledgement at the beginning of the book, thank you very much.

The winner will get that book for free, too. Seriously.

(N.B. One entry per IP address, please. Don’t try to fool the system. Don’t make Nat cranky. We hate when she’s cranky. Plus, she tends to take it out on fluffy bunnies. Please think of the bunnies?)

So much for my dare. Who’s next? Volunteers? No? Then I pick Cynthia. Truth or Dare!

Cynthia Eden:Dare, of course. I’m fearless!

Nathalie Gray: Fearless, huh? I dare you to reveal something to prove it. What’s something that others are afraid of but you are not?

Cynthia Eden: I’m not afraid of monsters. Well, sexy monsters, anyway. :-)  Some folks might be wary of the big, bad vampire lurking in the dark-not me.  Thanks to my Buffy fandom days, I have a major soft spot for the creatures of the night. In fact, my vampire addiction got a serious kick-start courtesy of Spike.

When I had the chance to write a sexy vampire novella for Red Sage, I was thrilled.  But, even though I do love my bad boy vamps, I decided it was time for a change.  My heroine became the vampire, and she was a vampire who happened to have a serious taste for bad boys.  Can you blame her?

In “Blood Hunt” (Secrets, Volume 25: Wicked Delights), the bounty hunter hero learned just what it meant to be prey, and then, to become an immortal hunter.  Bad boy turned vamp-ah, the wonderful possibilities!

Now I get to choose someone. Alice, Truth or Dare!

Alice Gaines: Dare. And challenge me!

Cynthia Eden: *grin* I dare you to write a mini-scene  about hands-free sex.

Alice Gaines: And here I thought you were going to challenge me!

The alien smiled when he lost the bet and had to give Aileen an orgasm without using his hands.  His tongue would work if guys from his planet did that.  But he seemed to have something else in mind as he stripped out of his jumpsuit. The guy was endowed…she’d have to give him that.  But no way could he work that huge cock into her without a hand to guide it.  And, damn it, she couldn’t help him without letting him win.
“Tempted?” he said.
“Soaking.  Too bad you lose.”
“Foolish human.”
His erection moved.  All on its own.  Impossible. “Muscles at the base.”  He climbed on top of her naked body, between her legs.  The monster rod corkscrewed into her and kept going.  Thrusting like a crazed piston.  She came instantly. “You lose, Earthling,” he said.  “Now, I collect my reward.” And, he kept right on fucking her.

Heheheheheh. Next victim! Natasha! Truth or Dare!

Natasha Moore: I have to be different. I choose Truth.

Alice Gaines: How do you make a ghost sexy when he doesn’t have a body?

Natasha Moore: Ooh, good question. True, in my novella Quinn’s Curse, Quinn is the ghost of a cursed pirate and the heroine can’t see him for a good portion of the story. But she is the only one who can hear him and feel his touch. A man is more than his body, right? More than washboard abs and muscular thighs – although those are certainly great. There’s his voice. Lyrical, with an old fashioned cadence. Charming and seductive in words and tone. And his touch? What woman doesn’t close her eyes when she feels the sensual touch of her lover? Without the sense of sight, the other senses are heightened. And when Quinn makes love to Miranda, convincing her it’s a dream, it’s the sexiest dream she’s ever had.

Now I get to pick someone! Calista, truth or dare!

Calista Fox: Dare. Let’s keep it racy!

Natasha Moore: Racy! Lots of people get intimate in the backseats of cars. I dare you to write a mini-scene right here and now with a couple in some kind of unusual vehicle.

Calista Fox: You’ve got it! How about a wave runner featuring the couple from my July novel, Object of Desire? If there were an epilogue, it might go something like this–

The spray of water hit Alicia’s bare legs as Alex raced the waverunner over the choppy ocean, distancing them from the terrorist’s compound they’d blown up. Miles from the coast, Alex slowed the watercraft. Alicia shifted on the seat, facing him as her back pressed to the steering column. Her legs draped over his powerful thighs. He wore board shorts and nothing else.

Alex kissed her while he gripped the handlebars, keeping them steady. Excitement from the day’s chase, the daring escape and Alex’s demanding mouth made Alicia tug at the Velcro strip at his trim waist to free his erection. She pushed aside the triangular swath of her bikini and he leaned into her, just as a helicopter flew overhead, its blades creating swells in the water that rocked the waverunner, making Alex thrust deeply. Alicia cried out as she came. Alex climaxed with her.
“Now that’s a flyby…”

I choose Maree, Truth or Dare?

Maree Andersen:I hope I don’t regret this…. Dare!

Calista Fox: Okay, you asked for it! I dare you to reveal the “real life” inspiration for one of your sexy scenes from Even Demons Get The Blues.

Maree Andersen: Sheesh! You gotta be kidding me! I walked right into that one, didn’t I? Okay, accepted. After all, being erotic romance writers, we Red Sage authors are all about the naughty bits ;-)

What to choose? Let’s see, Even Demons Get The Blues starts off with a pretty steamy mistaken identity seduction scene, then there’s voyeurism, orgasm in a public place….

What the hell! At Red Sage we say, “Read Dangerously”, so don’t say I didn’t warn you ;-). I choose the foreplay on the kitchen countertop scene in my demon hero’s apartment. It’s hot. And poignant, because of the uncharacteristic way in which he reacts to my heroine’s unexpected vulnerability.

And the “real life” inspiration behind that scene? Do I dare tell you?

Let’s set the scene. A night to ourselves without the kids. In a very lavish hotel room. With an equally lavish bed. But more enticing was the opportunity to experiment with the other furniture, knowing that we wouldn’t have to uh… “dismount” in a helluva hurry, and plaster on “we’re just watching a late movie” expressions when one of the kids had a nightmare and wanted a cuddle. Mmmm. That was a memorable night *blushes and fans face*

Mwah hah hah! Now it’s my turn to torture the next victim—oops, I mean, challenge our next Red Sage author. Nicole, Truth or Dare!

Nicole North: Truth.

Maree Andersen: Have you ever looked under a man’s kilt in real life?

Nicole North: I can’t get my husband into a kilt, so no research possibilities there! You have to be careful who you ask what is worn under the kilt. Some men will say, “On a good day, lipstick.” Others will say, “Nothing is worn. Everything is in great working order.” There’s even a song about a Scotsman who wakes up after a night of drinking to find he’s wearing a blue ribbon under his kilt. He decides he must have won first prize.

The traditional way to wear a kilt mandates “no underwear” except under certain circumstances such as the Highland Games. A lot of pipe bands and military regiments have this rule. Hmmm… how intriguing. To most women, the knowledge that everything is just swinging in the breeze under there is kinda sexy, even if we can’t see it. Sometimes, though, if a man isn’t paying attention to how he sits in his kilt, we get a peek. ;) In my stories, I like to incorporate steamy scenes where the hero and heroine end up doing the wild thing, spur of the moment, while he’s wearing a kilt!

Now I get to ask someone! Lila Dubois, Truth or Dare?

Lila Dubois: I’m going to say Truth as I have the mother of all sunburns and I don’t trust you! Though putting my bra in the freezer might actually feel good.

Nicole North: Ouch on the sunburn. Okay, here’s a pain-free “truth” — How long did it take you to write your eRedSage story, Kitsune?

Lila Dubois: Ha! You probably thought that was a simple question, but it’s strangely complicated.

Kitsune took almost 2 years to write. The inspiration for Kitsune was a girlfriend of mine. She’s Japanese-American, and started really struggling with with her ethnic identity. I spent so much time puzzling over what it would be like to be torn by differences in ethnic identity that I had the emotional structure for the story in my head. What took a long time was the research on the elements of Japanese culture and religion.

My mother has an illustrated book of Japanese Fairytales.  I carried it everywhere with me while I wrote Kitsune. The heroine, Sakura, because she’s kitsune, is a creature of tradition, ritual and magic.

Plus, in the first part of the book, Sakura speaks Japanese. That was worth two weeks of hunching over a Japanese-English dictionary and a book on Japanese grammar, while posting on bulletin boards asking native speakers to check my translations. Dang those characters who speak languages that are hard to translate.

I’ve got a second layer of aloe on (ohh, sticky) so I’m ready to pay it forward. Saskia, Truth Or Dare!

Saskia Walker:Dare! I’m no chicken.

Lila Dubois: No, you’re too glamorous to be a chicken! More like a peacock. Okay, reveal the scariest thing that ever happened to you in real life that led to a story.

Saskia Walker: I once stayed in a haunted house in the West Country, a part of England rich with folklore about ghosts and magic. It was a thatched cottage and midsummer, and I was acutely aware of the atmosphere when I saw a lonely figure, a man. At the time it was hellishly spooky!

Afterwards I became fascinated with the concept of time loops and the way houses can hold memories. Why do spirits linger? One of the stories that grew from this is WHAT YOU WISH FOR. My heroine is struggling to restore a thatched cottage and dreams of an attractive, ghostly man. Two centuries earlier the hero has to leave Cornwall, but doesn’t want to. A white witch sees the way for these two souls to answer each others needs across time. For the witch, it’s easy. For my characters, not quite so much!

Now I’m going to pick someone who knows a thing or two about boldness. Brenda, Truth or Dare!

Brenda Williamson:Truth. I might be bold, but I know better than to take a dare from Saskia!

Saskia Walker: Why do you like writing most of your heroes as animalistic alpha males?

Brenda Williamson: I have a strong personality, demanding, bossy, argumentative and when I write a male hero, he has to be larger than life to set me back a step. That means he has to be challenging, domineering, and equally aggressive, and then I get to bring the heroine in and make her also like me in the sense of her having a sometimes quiet persuasiveness that attracts the hero. Thus, he grows emotionally, his temperament evening out, never quite knowing how the heroine tamed his beastly nature, yet loving her all the more for it. In other words, I like to make him wildly forceful just for the fun of taming him.

Okay, now I pick B.J. Truth or Dare!

B.J. McCall: Dare!

Brenda Williamson: Reveal something in one of your sex scenes that you’ve never personally done … but want to try!

B.J. McCall: In Fire Angel my firefighter hero and angel heroine levitate during intercourse. Here’s a snippet of the scene.

Her wings flapped, cracking the air. “Oh, God!”
She gasped and landed on her spread wings. Colin’s chest slammed into hers. Her breath whooshed out of her lungs. She sucked in air.
“Ella, did you know we were floating?” His eyes were wide and his voice hoarse with a combination of fear and amazement.

I really enjoyed writing the scene, and I’m sinfully jealous of my heroine and her wings.

Onto our next victim. Ellie, Truth or Dare!

Ellie Marvel: I’ll save my daring quota for my next book. Truth!

B.J. McCall: You continue to shatter expectations about what’s heroic, what’s erotic, and even what a story is. Do the futuristic settings give you more freedom as a writer?

Ellie Marvel: Definitely, they do. In a futuristic, one major attraction is how I can believably do away with the gender politics that constrain the societies I and my readers live in. If I want to eliminate glass ceilings, banns on various types of marriages, or the stigma of certain sexual lifestyles, I can do it. I can also turn the magnifying glass on issues that affect sexuality using premises, social structures or biologies that don’t exist in our world and explore those in a way that inform modern sensibilities.

In other words, while remaining sensitive to the worldviews my readers are likely to have, I get to explore alien cultures and their erotic concepts. My imagination isn’t the only limit–I still have to be able to sell my ideas to my editor!–but so far Red Sage has been quite supportive and encouraging.

My turn — Liane, Truth or Dare! Your husband is an ex Navy SEAL.  So tell us, do SEAL’s really do it better, harder and faster?

Liane Gentry Skye: I’m pleading the fifth and taking the dare!  Bring it, girlfriend!

Ellie Marvel: I dare you to write us a short ‘n sexy scene using a grape popsicle as a prop.

Liane Gentry Skye: Mmmm, popsicles.

Amber backed closer to the frigid air wafting from the open freezer door. Hitching up her top, she bathed her bare back in cool relief. “Could it get any hotter in here?”

“It just did.” Mark’s easy drawl ran thick as the air around them. Was he teasing her?  Had he forgotten how many years had passed since they’d agreed they were downright dangerous together? It must be the heat. That would explain why her ex-lover turned BFF’s stare dripped over her like melted butter. Warm, golden and sinful sweet. If that incendiary gaze of his wasn’t enough to raise her body temperature another dozen degrees, the sight of his carved torso as he peeled his tank top over his head finished the job.

Despite the heat of the dog days, a shiver zinged up Amber’s spine. Day-um, but he looked good standing there wearing nothing more than a suntan and cut-offs. And if she didn’t put her libido on ice pronto, she’d soon be on him like white on rice. Seeking refuge, she spun around to face the freezer. “Hungry?” she asked.

“Starving, he said.” And then she saw it, peeping out from beneath the pork shops. Sweet relief in a frosted cellphane wrapper, the last grape popsicle. A throaty groan pushed past her lips as she reached out to claim it.  Just as her fingers curled around it, a warm hand covered hers. “Best friends share,” he murmured, his body flast against hers as his lip worked a trail of fire down the back of her neck. Then, behind her, the crackle of cellophane. Her body stiffened against him. “Mark, please!”

“Please, what?, ” he crooned. “Share my popsicle?”

Any chance of her coherent response was lost on the icy thrill that ran from the base of her neck ot the small of her back. Her mind had scarcely registered exactly what Mark intended to do with the popsicle before the sticky trail it had left on her flesh was chased by the damp sear of his tongue….

ROFL, Brenda, I thought this was a PG-13 blog….but after reading the other ones, I guess I should have gone all the way *g*. However, Mark and Amber are well on their way to having their own story because I, too, wanted to know what became of the grape popsicle!

But since our readers are looking for spicey, I dare YOU to add the next paragraph to the story. :D

Here’s the cover blurb for one of the books in the prize package above.

A DAMSEL IN DISTRESS, by Brenda Williamson

Irisa Mansfield is having a very bad day. First she’s abducted by barbarians, bound at the wrists, and hoisted onto the back of a stolen dragon. Then she falls from the dragon’s back and finds herself alone in the middle of an empty field, still bound and now utterly unprotected.

What she needs is a knight in shining armor to come to her rescue. What she gets is Sir Ware Pembroke, a dragon rider more interested in recovering his stolen dragon than in untying her. She orders him. She commands him. She demands his obedience.

But still her wrists are tied.

Ware is not accustomed to women who try to boss him around. In fact, he’s not accustomed to anyone bossing him around. But he knows how to handle a thief, so he throws the brazen wench over his shoulder and gives her a good spanking as he carries her away from the field. He intends to see to it that she’s punished properly, but instead finds himself at every step battling his captive … and his powerful attraction to her.

I have a villain name. Merikh-Variant spelling of Mirrikh, the Arabic and Persian name for the planet Mars, possibly meaning “death, slaughter.”

Nathalie- I love your site, and I have to agree with you that I like animals better than people. I do have a question. Your not-so-serious bio says that you are plotting to take over the world. so, what plans have you come up with so far and when you to conquer all, what will you do with the world?

    Popsicle Story…continued.

Her skin was already damp from perspiring, her back soaked from the trickling of the icy treat and Mark’s slurpy kisses. As her shorts were pushed from her hips, she knew it wasn’t long before she’d feel the moist tingling between her legs.

“I’ve always thought you had the nicest bottom.” He scraped his teeth across one cheek.

She wanted to bend over, but that meant ducking inside the freezer. If she didn’t move soon, she’d need him to suck on her frozen nipples. The brilliant idea, drew her closer to the icy air….

This is a cheesy one, but it’s one of my favorites for a villain: Petty Vengeance. I don’t remember what we were talking about, but my co-worker and I came up with it a few months ago. Now, anytime something in the office goes wrong, Petty Vengeance was the culprit.

Bestselling category? The truth is that any book in any category can rise above the pack if it contains the right mix of emotion and eroticism. That’s far more important than subgenre.

Alice Gaines and BJ McCall have been part of the Red Sage family since the beginning. The rest of the authors in this article have come in at various points over the years. Pay attention to the names on this list — these are tomorrow’s bestselling authors!

Now, onto the important stuff. Who’s got a villainous name suggestion for Nathalie’s steampunk novel? Post them here! I can’t wait to see what you all come up with!

    Hi annalisa,

I’m writing a series for Red Sage. A Damsel in Distress is the first book in the Dragon Fighters Romance series. It’s medieval knights, that ride dragons. The next book out next will be A Maiden of Mercy.

I like paranormals too. I have many books published. Dragons, wolf-shifters, cat shifters, witches, and even a chupacabra :-)

Annalisa, Red Sage will be debuting it’s first multi-author series in July, Three Kinds of Wicked. You can take a peek at the series website for details, http://www.ThreeKindsofWicked.com There will be approximately twelve books in the series before all is said and done.

I’m fortunate enough to have the first story up, Wicked Temptation. I have to tell you, Trey, the naughty series hero, is going to melt more than a few hearts during his travels through time. All that an and HEA for himself to boot!

Hi everyone and happy 15 years to Red Sage!! annalisa asked about series and paranormal characters. I can answer that! I’m writing a series of paranormal characters for Red Sage. The heroes are cursed shapeshifters. In Devil in a Kilt in Secrets Volume 27 Untamed Pleasures, Gavin shapeshifts into a black hawk during the daytime. In Beast in a Kilt, Torr shapeshifts into a Kelpie (a Scottish water demon, a white horse) at night.

Ooooh, Three Kinds of Wicked. I have two stories in there. A Victorian and a Medieval. I should be working on the Medieval right now.

Trey has a marvelous salve the hero uses to…er…warm the heroine up in all the most important places. ;-)

Hi ladies!!! Well, I am at work, so no dares for me. I need to keep all of my clothing on. We all know truth or dare tends to end in nakedness. ;) Which isn’t always a bad thing.

I can see that everyone is well versed in male-female erotic scenes, but how about female-female scenes. Has anyone attempted those?

Heather, I haven’t personally written f/f as in a sex scene. But one of my early literary shorts under another name was a f/f story.

As far as erotic romance goes, I just did my first m/m scene (Three Kinds of Wicked’s end story, Wicked Redemption), and I was amazed by how much writing that got me steamed me up!

We’ve got a paranormal series starting July 1 called “Three Kinds of Wicked.” There’s this insanely sexy guy named Trey, a time-striding demigod, who cruises the human timeline in search of preordained coupled who need to be reunited. It’s like Quantum Leap with a dose of mythology and magic and, oh, yeah, smoking hot menage scenes!

Liane Gentry Skye was the evil mastermind behind this series. The first installment in the series is from her, and it sets up the whole deal. She also has the final story in the series. They go together like companion pieces. Each of the stories from the other authors — I forget how many of our talented writers have ponied up stories for this series, but it might be around 10 — functions as a standalone, though each one brings Trey one step closer to rescuing the human timeline and reunion with his true love.

His true love, of course, is me. He just doesn’t know it. He’s all confused and distracted by this Sage chick. But Trey is mine! Mine!

It’s nice to so so many “daring” authors here. ;) I really don’t have a question, more of a short kilt story. I was on a rescue squad a few years ago and we used to participate in the local St. Patrick’s day parade. Lots of firemen and squad members and pipe and drum corps doing parade stuff. A couple of daring women (myself included) (alcohol was involved) asked a couple of kilted bagpipe players what they had on under them. We were shocked when 3 of them promptly lifted their kilts to show us. Nothing on underneath. “SIGH” 2 others would only show us if we bought them green beer. ;) It was a great day! Thanks for coming by. ;)

No doubt working with such a stable of gifted writers stretched me as an author in ways I didn’t know I needed to be stretched. And Theresa! *Gasp* I think you need a little dare of your own. We don’t have any f/f stories, but we do have a very hot f/f/m menage scene in Ellie Marvel’s interactive e-book, “Megan’s Choice.” It’s like a choose-your-own-adventure story with sex. And no, I won’t tell you which story path to follow to get to the f/f/m holosex! You have to find it yourself! That’s half the fun of this story. :)

(((Shell)))) So sorry for your disappointment. Since you’ve had a rough day, I’ll take the truth on this question. I believe writing erotic scenes is the one place where we get to take the truth and twist the hell out of it. :) If we aren’t writing what we know, we’re writing about what we’d *like* to know! What woman hasn’t fantasized about having two–or more—drop dead gorgeous men, women, or both tending to their every desire? For me, writing paranormals allows my imagination to travel into forbidden areas my strict southern upbringing simply won’t let me go…yet :D I’ve learned to never say never in my life, but until the real thing comes along, my increasingly wicked imagination truly is my–and my marriage’s!–best friend!

The second one isn’t close enough to completion to give it a name yet :) I’m working on another mermaid novella, albeit slowly due to my desire to close out the Wicked series. Actually an editor at one of our RWNZ conferences had the entire room blushing and giggling when she talked about drawing stick figures in various positions to check a sex scene being described was actually possible. annalisa - you asked about series.

EVEN DEMONS GET THE BLUES is a standalone novella but it is planned as a series. My secondary characters had to be scaled back because they were just too vivid and large for a novella. So I had to give them their own stories…as you do!

The next one: “Let Sleeping Demons Lie” features Rez’s ex, a particularly jealous felinoid demon named Namaah. She gets caught up in the demon king’s machinations and ends up at the mercy of a leonine prince of the Lycan Realm. So it’s kitty vs lion with some fairly heinous hyenas thrown in to spice things up.

And I’ve planned a 3rd, tentatively called “Better The Demon You Know” where my amoral demon king Asmodeus, finally gets his comeuppance in the form of his former consort, Lilith. And as anyone who’s read EVEN DEMONS GET THE BLUES knows, Asmodeus reeeeeally needs to meet his match and be tamed…kinda…but not too much…’cuz, yanno, we all like our heroes a bit bad.

ok, I’ve been trying to think up a name for a villian. And then I thought…does it have to be a male villian? could it be a vile, eveil, female villianess? haha and my suggestion is…….Desdemona Allegheri. Now if you really ant a male villian then I would say take that and turn it into Desmond Allegheri ( I but I like the female version better)

I won’t address that question since I’m a complete newb and my Red Sage novella is my first published book…which is why I love my editor(s), because they believed in me enough to take a chance and publish me.

One so wicked it’s almost too much for words. But we’re brave on this here chat. We shall call villains by their names and damn the torpedoes.

Want to know Jackie’s proposed name for my upcoming steampunk villain?

    PETTY VENGEANCE!

Denise aka darkreader - after reading a comment from a reviewer I did start to imagine how I’d rewrite a particular scene toward the end.

I pictured my heroine slipping out of bed and slipping on a robe instead of walking through into the next room naked. But the thing is, she’s now comfortable being naked with her demon lover so it didn’t resonate with me. And even though the instant she saw Rez had visitors, I might have written her rushing back into the bedroom, that didn’t fit with my vision for who she’d become, either. So I’ll stick to my guns and say I’m glad I wrote that she stayed to confront Rez’s other-worldly visitors, despite not wearing a stitch of clothing.

    Hi Dark Reader, great question!

I don’t know that I’d change actual endings, but I do have stories that, if I had them to write over again, might well turn into full blown novels. I start missing my characters and find myself wanting to revisit them, to know what became of them *after* “the end.” This is probably true for most writers. I also find myself discovering things I could have done differently as an author once I read my stories again just before they are released. Often, a story is turned in to an editor months, or even years, before it sees print. This is particularly true of print books. I guess we all grow and change as writers, and what we perceive as our early “flaws” glare at us when we revisit our own work. So in that respect, yes, there are things I would strengthen in my writing by the time it makes its way to print.

Jackie - you don’t hate me for being honest? Phew! (And did I mention I haven’t had coffee yet?)

Seriously, whenever I get feedback I really do angst and rewrite and angst some more. And I have ruined a really award-winning manuscript by doing just that–not being confident enough in my own writing. But since this is my first published book, I couldn’t change anything. It’s set in stone….horrors! So I really did have to take a deep breath and think about why I had my heroine do what she did and whether it “fit” my vision for her. What I take away from your comment is that for you I didn’t quite nail it, I didn’t manage to convey on the page what was in my head at the time. So that’s a really positive thing to take away from a review, and not at all negative!

As for more books set in the same world? Oh yeah. Namaah’s up next - I cut so much of her from the first draft that she went all bitch-troll-from-Hell on me and insisted she got her own story. It’s called “Let Sleeping Demons Lie”…which I hope my editor will like as much as Rez and Leisa’s story.

And Asmodeus? Oh. My. God. He so demands his own story. And who am I to disppoint a sexy, bad-to-the-bone demon king when he demands something? He has no idea what’s in store for him though. And it’s Leisa who dreams up his punishment, too. Gotta love that irony.

If I can only recommend one of my books, it would have to be the single title release I have coming out on July 1, OBJECT OF DESIRE. First of all, it’s only the second single title print book for RS–Angela’s THE FOREVER KISS being the first, of course! I’m a huge fan of Angela’s and RS, so of course it’s a really big deal to me to have the second single title. Second, I absolutely love my H/H! They manage to burn up the pages while getting shot at and narrowly escaping terrorists who want them dead. (I actually had a great time trying to kill them off and am so happy they were resillient to my evil plotting! LOL)

I hope you’ll pick up a copy (or win one!) and let me know what you think! More chances to win a free copy of OBJECT OF DESIRE on my website: http://www.calistafox.com!

    Medievalgrrl: Lazareth Glass, Illyria Frost
    Ann Marie: Xhaiden
    Beet: Thorn Sankliver
    Jackie: Petty Vengeance
    Lisa: Desdemona (Desmond) Allegheri

    Lauren: Zorin Demone

But they post loads of photos on Facebook for me to drool over - like all the ones with various Red Sage authors draped over various barely clad male cover models at the recent Romantic Times convention! And we chat on the Red Sage author loops and on twitter — boy, do we what!

I have too many favorite authors to list here–and given I’ve just bought a heap of Red Sage books, there’s more being added to that list all the time! I’m paranormally inclined - why be normal, when you can be paranormal? - so most of my keepers are paranormals. But I love a good Regency, too.

Greek and Roman mythology are popular–eveyone loves to write about those gods, including me! But I haven’t read any stories featuring Mayan or Aztec gods, and I really wanted to set OBJECT OF DESIRE someplace exotic, so the Yucatan jungle sounded like a fun place! I was in Cancun when I heard of Kisin, the earthquake spirit that dwells beneath the surface of the earth, and that got me interested in the mythology and I read about Ah Kinchil, the sun god, and then decided to add a little conflict with the Aztecs who came into power as the Mayan’s power faded.

Like Liane said above, it’s so much fun to twist stuff around and create cool adventures–fiction rocks!!

Who was it that was asking about favorite authors? I have sooo many, but the authors I most admired pre-publication were veteran Red Sage Secrets antho authors. They remain among my favorites today. Being published in a Secrets antho was my most cherished dream as an author for the longest time. That dream is coming true on July 1 with the publication of my Mermaid romance, Heart Storm in Secrets Volume 27. I couldn’t be more thrilled! My sexy merfolk, who glow-in-the-dark when they’re feeling frisky, are near and dear to my heart, and I can’t wait to share them with Secrets readers.

Yep, Maree, glow in the dark. Here’s a mini excerpt from Heart Storm: (Adult content alert!)

Beautiful, he thought, slicking his fingers through the tangles that crested her mound. Judging by the muscles striating her thighs, she could easily open up a smoking can of whip-ass on him if she ever caught him with his guard down.
Her rasping moans urged him on as her tightness girdled his fingers. The tiny after shocks from her first orgasm invited him deeper inside her wicked, hot core. Working a slow, rhythmic pressure across her internal nub, Byron slid his fingers in and out, rimming her opening with those shimmering, fragrant fluids.
“That’s right, baby,” he grated, “let’s light your fire….”
Slicking liquid brightness around her swollen bud, he delighted in the way her hips rolled. Trembling with anticipation, he positioned his tip over her entrance.

Wayne - that’s a really good question because even though I don’t write them, I loooove reading about vamps and werewolves!

Let’s see. Most charismatic vamp? I have a soft spot for the first vamp I ever read: Anne Rice’s Lestat. But I love me some of Laurell K Hamilton’s Jean-Claude! And then there’s L.A. Banks’ Carlos from the Vampire Huntress series. I can’t choose! Please don’t make me choose *whimper*

And werewolf? Gotta be Elena from Kelley Armstrong’s Bitten. To quote from the back cover: “She makes Buffy look fluffy.”

Hey Liane, Hey Natasha! Thank you for asking about my book! Nameless Surrender is my release from Red Sage. It won Red Sage’s 2008 Alpha Male Contest, e-book division. I’m really proud of this story, and it’s gotten some fantastic reviews! Here’s the blurb:

No names. No words. Just sex.

After months of blindfolds and secrets, after countless encounters without a single word spoken, Dean Lucas knows what his mysterious partner at the adult-only club Entice wants and gives her everything she physically desires. But now he hungers for more than just her body. He craves her heart, too.

Zoe Grant has finally found a way to let go of past betrayals, a way to sate her long-hidden desires. And the fact she doesn’t know the man’s name, has never seen his face, suits her just fine.

But when the two are unknowingly brought together outside their mutual comfort zone, will Zoe be able to set aside her past and surrender her trust once again? And can Dean convince Zoe, nameless or not, that love knows no bounds?

It’s on sale June 21-30 for only $1.50 as part of the Anniversary Celebration!
