Angel’s Advocate by Mary Stanton
Brianna Winston-Beaufort (better known as “Bree”) is not what anyone would call a typical attorney. Then again, it could also be because she does not take on the usual clients. Her clients, so far at least, are already dead. Yes, dead. Deceased. No longer in the land of the living. And yet, they still require Bree’s help as a lawyer while facing an entirely different and everlasting judgment.
Alas, however grateful the dead may be for her assistance, they don’t pay much - or rather, they don’t pay at all. Had ghosts the ability to pay her for the services rendered then at least she could take her list of unusual clientele in better stride. However, seeing as that is not the case, Bree is then left to find an earthly client who can at least pay her to do her job. Enter Lindsey Chandler, a spoiled, 17-year-old high school cheerleader from a very well-known and wealthy family in Savannah who stole $165.26 from a Girl Scout while joy riding with her friends in daddy’s Hummer.
While the Chandler case was definitely not what Bree had in mind, she couldn’t exactly say “no”. She definitely could not deny the job when the spirit of Lindsey’s father made an appearance and basically told her (as much as a ghostly cryptic message can be translated) that he was murdered and it also concerned his daughter. Could the two vastly different cases possibly have a link? Or is it just another spoiled rich girl with too much time and money on her hands, wreaking havoc on the world after her father’s death? Bree’s guts tell her the cases are related. Now, she just has to find a way to prove it.
Many sequels fail to follow in the outstanding footsteps of their predecessors, but Angel’s Advocate is most assuredly not one of them. If anything, while Defending Angels was a hauntingly engaging and riveting read, Angel’s Advocate was downright impossible to put down once that first word was read. This second installment in the Beaufort & Company mystery series is truly another keeper. Ms. Stanton definitely has a way with words making what can be the most simple plot flow effortlessly into a complex storyline, keeping her readers hooked and entranced.

This is going to be jumping into my shopping cart next visit to the bookstore. I love the premise for this series. The first one was excellent!
Was not aware of these books. Sounds like a very different take on attorney-client relations.
Will look for them.
