Hey everyone! It’s so fantastic to be here with Rachel and the crew at Bitten By Books. I have been an avid reader of Paranormal Romance for as long as I can remember. I grew up watching all kinds of sci-fi but Star Trek was always my favorite. I’m sorry… but Captain James T. Kirk is still one of the  hottest characters out there. He’s a classic alpha male with disarming charm. Love him! I also had a penchant for Soap Operas. I was an NBC girl. I adored Days of Our Lives and Another World.  So I always tell people that if you combine sci-fi and soaps you end up with Paranormal Romance.

As a reader, my favorite authors are Christine Feehan and Lori Handeland. Both of them write so vividly. Christine Feehan’s Ghostwalker series is incredibly inventive and full of sexy adventures. Lori Handeland’s Nightcreature Series has awesome female characters with sharp, sarcastic wit and alpha males that can really melt your butter. Yummy. As a writer, I aspire to be as good as they are. To me they are the “high bar” to meet.

The Amoveo Legacy is Book 1 in my shifter series. I wrote much of this book while visiting the very town in takes place in. My family has had a beach house in Westerly, Rhode Island for many years. I’ve spent a few weeks up there every summer since I was fourteen years old. So when you read this book most of the places you’ll see are real places in Westerly. The hero and heroine, Malcolm and Samantha, go on their big date to one of my favorite summer haunts, Paddy’s. We’ll actually be doing a book signing at Paddy’s in August which should be a whole lot of fun.

Aside from reading and writing about the paranormal I have had one or two personal experiences that fall into that realm. One of them happened up at the Westerly house. The house was built by my late Grandfather, Leo Diamond. He passed away about 16 years ago and we scattered his ashes off of the jetty right near the house. We’re all still pretty convinced he never really left. One morning at about five a.m. I got up to give my son his bottle. (He was about 18 months old at the time.) My husband and I were standing in the hallway with him just outside the kitchen. Just as he was about to grab the bottle his eye was caught by something and he snapped his head toward the empty corner to the left and started laughing hysterically and clapping. He pushed at my husband’s hands to be let down. We both looked over and saw nothing but air. So my hubby put Ian down. Well he stood there for a moment and kept giggling at the corner but then his gaze started moving down the hallway past us…as though he was watching something move toward the living room. Then he clapped his hands, ran to the living room and jumped, laughing, into my Grandfather’s easy chair. Weird!

So how about you? Ever had any close encounters of your own? I’d love to hear about it. Hey don’t forget to enter the contest we’ve got going. Hi Sara!!! Thanks for stopping by. That is just the coolest story. I believe we have family and friends all around, but I’ve never had such a close experience. My pups will randomly look and stare at empty space in the house and start barking. Their tails are always wagging. I always like to think that its my Pap or my partner’s Mom stopping in to say hi and check in.

Was it your love of sci-fi that made you want to be a writer? I use to watch Days myself. They have some off the wall story lines…like Marlena possessed. I missed the show where she became unpossessed. My best friend called to tell me, and my brother never gave me the message…:(

I say the reminder for the event on Day 26 contest, but I did remember anyway. :)

  2. Comment by Sara Taney Humphreys — May 27, 2009 @ 6:16 am

Hi Heather :) I loved that Marlena storyline! It was such a hoot. I definitely think that animals and kids can see stuff we can’t or won’t see.

As a kid I did a lot of day dreaming and eventuall I decided to put some of these lingering day dreams on paper. I really do have a blsat writing these characters. I’m writing Book 2 now and it’s looking good. I hope everyone will enjoy it. Malcolm and Samantha from Book 1 are in it as well but there’s another love story to be told.

Hi, Sara, I have had numerous experiences such as you described over the years, most notably a spiritual visit by my father the night he died (he lived in Virginia, I live in Massachusetts). Good thing I’m not freaked out about these kinds of things!

The wildest experiences I’ve had have been dream visits from people who’ve passed. Love those dreams because they’re comforting.

Hi, thanks for spending the day with us. Wow, did I read that you have 4 boys? Have their personalities influenced any of the characters in your book? I love reading books in a series, it gives you a chance to really know the characters. How many books are you planning in this series?

I have a twitter account but haven’t figured out how to use it. I would like to have you as a myspace friend.

Hiya Sara, fascinating intro to the virtual release party! As a former para investigator with many encounters of my own to speak of, I always love hearing about other peoples ghostly experiences, so no doubt I’ll be dropping by again, to read the latest comments!

My most memorable ghostly encounter was my earliest memory of such encounters - perhaps when you read it, you’ll see why I ended up with such a keen fascination and interest in the paranormal world at large.

North Wales…a place where mostly everyone speaks english, but where the council name streets with welsh names! So I had no idea, until my thirst for investigation began, that the name of the street where I grew up in was ‘white stone avenue’. Yes, that’s right! Why on earth would they call a street that? Well, at the end of our backgarden there were some raseberry bushes, then, beyond that, a graveyard.

At the time I had no idea of lurked at the end of our yard. I just remember my mum would never go out to get the washing after night fall.

During the dead of night, I would have a visitor, one that many other people have reported seeing around the GLOBE also. A shadowy figure wearing a top hat and tail coat (almost cloak like). He’d wander into my room at night and wake me up. Sometimes with just the freeze factor, other times he’d physically hit me.

I was really glad when we moved, although he hadn’t moved too far away, it was far enough away from that house. He found me and payed me one more visit, two nights after we’d moved in. After than, nothing! Phew.

It’s been suggested that he may be a guardian angel or guide of some such by the love and light brigade but I don’t believe that to be the case, his energy was far to foreboding to be anything other than…well I want to say evil, but that’s a strong word…how about bad, or misguided.

Anyhow…on a lighter note, and back to Sara’s new book

It’s awesome that you’ve included your own old haunt in the book — pretty amazing that you get to have a book party there too!

Dream visits are awesome — so validating and comforting :o) I only wish more people could embrace those dreams instead of passing them off as simply a dream.

    xxx

Hey Silver Pixies I love that story. My Aunt is Wiccan and I’m fasinated by it. Very cool stuff!

Elie, I do have 4 sons and they are very different. My youngest are twins. They’re fraternal and are like night and day. They’re all still pretty young so I don’t think they’ve influenced any of my characters….at least not yet.LOL!

The Amoveo Series will be 5 books. I’m writing Book 2 now. If you’re not sure whether or not you’ll like it, there are several fan reviews on my publisher’s site :)

  15. Comment by Valerie — May 27, 2009 @ 7:28 am

    Hi,

I loved your interview. I’ve been a Trekkie since religiously watching the very first series as a kid….ya, I’m dating myself I know…hehe!!!

I’m also a BIG fan of the paranormal and devour everything I can on it, fiction and non-fiction.

I’ve never had a ghostly encounter, but I do believe the spirits of our loved ones hover near us and watch over us.

I’m going to look up your book right now!!!!

    Hugs,

    Valerie

I grew up on “General Hospital”, but when I gained control of the remote, I became a “Days of Our Lives” and “As the World Turns” fan. My Tivo is on the fritz, though, so I’m behind!

Thank you for sharing your story. Being from Georgia, we have a lot of ghost stories and haunted places. The house I grew up in was haunted by a corrupt judge; my best friend’s house was haunted by a suicide. The college up the road had the ghost of a soldier who died during the Civil War, when the college was used as a hospital. I adore hearing stories like yours, though! Thanks again for sharing!

My only weird experiences are premonitions I don’t get them all the time just occasionally. I knew my youngest child would get sick ( he got leukemia at age 3) I knew he would survive ( he’s 24 now) I’ve known about accidents before they happened things like that but they are never clear enough to prevent them.

Ghostly encounters? well, once everything on my mantle swept itself off (imagine someone sweeping their arm along it and shoving everything off the side :P ) for no apparent reason. I still think it was a poltergeist

Have you seen the new Star Trek movie, and if so, what did you think? I never got into the originals so I’m not a good judge of how it compared, but I enjoyed it :)

You’re book sounds so interesting, I am putting it on my TBR list. As soon as I get the money…

But hey! It was really neat to hear about your stories. I have a few of my own.

Lets see… One of them involves me in my room with a bunch of flickering lights. I live up in the attic so my mom would flicker the lights down at the bottom to get my attention… But no one was home but me. So apparently my ghostie wanted something. ~laughs~ Turns out it was the TV turned on.

No ghosts here, nothing close. The only strange thing was a sense of deja vu. Bu who doesn’t have that.

What do you think, any tips to go and find some ghosts?

    Hi Sara,

I have to say when I was in 7th grade or so I became a huge fan of Days. I used to watch all the ABC soaps, all my children (back when jenny and greg were on it), One life to live and General Hospital (huge luke, laura and scorpio fan). My best friend was visiting and got me to watch Days. it was when Hope was going to marry Larry and Bo kidnapped her from the church (with the song I need a hero playing). Loved anotherworld too. Passions - not so much!!

Loved your story you shared. My grandparents and my husbands mother have all passed away and this past fall we had a huge tree fall in our backyard. I don’t know how it kept from hitting our house but it actually fell down between our house and our neighbors and only took out the utilities. I really think they were watching over us.

This book sounds really good. I love everything paranormal and am always looking for new books.

    Hi Sara,
I loved your story. I wish I could say I’ve had lots of paranormal experiences, but I only had one (I think) when I got a phone call from a friend (when I was still in HS). He told me he was going to break up with me because of various reasons, and not to be upset it was for the best. I later found out that he had been killed in action the day before he called me. His grandma lived near me and said he also called her the same time he called me. Scared me a little at first. I guess thats why I’ve always been open to new ideas and experiences.

Hi Sara: I live in an almost 150 year old house in Minnesota. Spooky things happen here all the time. I hear music most nights when the house is quiet - scratchy music, like something played on a victrola. I love it so much that I went to an antique store and bought an old hand-crank one and play my own music (in the daytime). In the bedroom, that belonged to my twin daughters, someone knocks on the window - usually 3-4 knocks, evenly spaced. It is so freaky. I sleep in there occasionally when the snore level goes past my tolerance level. The knocks usually occur about 2am. My girls are 31 and they will not stay overnight in that room. They swear the house is haunted.
I have 3 cats and I will always catch them watching something or someone.
I think all old houses have their own stories to tell and things like the above are quite common. I would not change it for the world.

Welcome, Sara and congratulations on your great book! I can’t wait to read more of the series. Christine Feehan’s Dark series was my introduction to paranormal books..until then I had been a diehard scifi, fantasy and mysteries reader. Have you seen the new Star Trek movie? Spock is yummy and I never thought I’d be thinking that about a vulcan!

  34. Comment by Jessica — May 27, 2009 @ 9:45 am

I haven’t had any ghostly experiences. I’ve read about them in (fiction) books and it’s left chills. Mostly because I am reading at home all alone and the house creaks. Not always a good idea. I sometimes think that I would like to have an experience with a ghost but then wonder, is that such a good idea? I have such a wild imagination I think of all the bad things that could go wrong with a ghostly encounter. What if it’s a bad ghost? What if it doesn’t leave? Possession? I also watch a lot of those A Haunting on Discovery Channel and I used to watch Haunted History back when it was on.

So I do believe in ghosts. I have never had an experience. And I am still debating if I would like to experience something. If it happens…cool, if not, it might be for the best because I would probably flip out if I saw a strange ghost. Now if it was my grandma, then I probably would still flip out a little bit.

    Book sounds interesting too!

Hi Sara. Great story. Many years ago I ran an old movie theater that had been built in the 40’s (on what used to be swamp land in the 19th century). My employees and I had many unexplained experiences there…. movie projects that would start by themselves, platters that would spin when no power was going to them, objects disappearing and showing up in strange places, strange noises behind locked doors, etc., not to mention one of the theaters had a very oppressive feel to it and people rarely enjoyed watching movies in that house. The upstairs, where we housed the projectors and equipment, had a long hallway that ran the length of the building. One night as my projectionist and I were locking up, we saw a transparent white/grayish figure (almost like a light shadow) in a wheel chair rolling down the hall towards us. Needless to say we got out of there fairly quickly that night. We tried to do some research but never turned up anything concrete.

Hi! I don’t have a personal experience myself but my mother does. I was in high school when we moved into a new house. The previous owner committed suicide about 2 weeks after we moved in. A few months later my mother saw the old owner standing in front of my bedroom. It looked just like him but she said there was something weird about him to let her know it wasn’t a person. She told him to leave and he did! She didn’t tell me about it until I was older and out of the house because she was afraid that I’d freak (which I would have).

Wow, what a neat story. I wish my grandfather would show himself to the boys, I’m sad that they didn’t get to know him better before he died.
We have a resident ghost in our house, likes to turn lights on and off.

Sara, thanks for being here today. I have say that is a wonderful story about your son and grandfather. I have a story about my late ex-husband.

My son and I moved into the house that my ex lived in until the day they took him to the hospital for the last time. The house was a mobile home with my bedroom at one end and the kitchen at the other. I was in the kitchen and I had left my large seven-day pill box on my nightstand. The dogs were sitting with me and then all of a sudden we hear a thud. I looked back the hallway and I see my pillbox flipped over, unopened, and on the floor near the door about three feet from the nightstand.

I think it was my ex’s way of letting me know that he was keeping his threat to haunt me. There have been many strange things that happened even after that house was torn down and scrapped.

I have Facebook’d, MySpace’d, Twittered, voted, and subscribed as requested.

My grandmother died when I was 11, and for years after I would smell her perfume and feel her presence, especially when I was feeling sad. I missed her so much and that bit of contact was so comforting.

Okay, well my story wouldn’t hold weight against the stories already posted, but here goes… :)

When my husband deployed to Afghanistan the first time, we decided I would stay with family so I wouldn’t be alone with the kids. The house we stayed in had stories…like most do. Sometimes we would hear odd noises and such, but one night, after putting the kids to bed, I was watching The Ring. Yes, alone. At one of the more gruesome parts of the movie, the door to the basement slammed shut. There were no windows open and no other wind-type movment in the house…and I was the only one there. A few weeks later, I was helping put some decorations in storage in the basement when something blocked my foot while I was stepping down and I fell all the way down, hitting a spot on the floor where there was a red stain…noone has ever seen the stain there before. It is interesting to note, nothing ever happened to me so long as I wasn’t alone.

As for The Amoveo Legacy…it is a MUST READ! I stayed up all night devouring it, I couldn’t put it down. Now I am forced to sit and await the next installment. Sara? :)

Hi Sara! Thanks for sharing your experiences!

I just purchased! I can’t wait to read it! I have had many experiences and spiritual visits as you described. My grandfather passed away when I was 7 & we were on vacation. I was sitting on the dock & he come to ‘visit me’. He explained he passed away, we had a nice chat & I went in & told my dad. As I finished telling him - the phone rang. I was also so very fortunate to have a visit from my mom shortly after she passed. She was very young at the age of 46. It’s one of the most meaningful events is my life. My 6yo also has similar experiences. We moved into our current house when she was 9mo old. She became very sick & this lasted for 2 years. She kept saying a man stood in her doorway every night watching her when she was sick. Sure enough at the end of the 2 years, I was sleeping with her & she woke me up to show me him standing in the doorway!

Welcome to BBB. I love Star Trek too, but I have to confess I am more of a Jean Luc Picard girl though I love Capt Kirk!

I RSVPed to the event and voted for Anita Blake in the poll.

Holy COW! You guys have some AMAZING stories!!!!! I have to say I adore real life ghost stories so thanks for posting yours…I’m having a ball reading them.

As for the new Star Trek Movie..IT WAS AWESOME!! I sat there with my mouth hanging open the entire time. I don’t think I’ve done that since I saw the first Star Wars when I was 8 years old. I think what made it so cool was how perfectly cast all the characters were. Really well done. The acting was great and they all just fit their roles so well. Okay…how yummy is the kid who plays Captain Kirk?? Can you say…delish?

Here’s another ghost story for you…that I personally experienced.

About 10 years ago we bought the house my husband grew up in. Sadly, his Mom died when he was just 12 years old.

About 3 months after we moved in, my sister-in-law was getting married and wanted to find some pictures of her with her Mother when she was little. (I should mention that when we bought the house my Father-in -law left the entire attic & basement full of 35 years of stuff) So one hot Saturday on Labor Day weekend, I decided to take one last look in the attic. Perhaps we overlooked an old photo album or two?

I opened the attic door and was hit with that hot waft of stale attic air–boof. I grimaced but pushed onward into the steaminess. However, when I hit the top landing it was like stepping into an icy refrigerator. I stopped dead in my tracks and all the little hairs stood up the back of my neck. I got major heebie-jeebies. Just as I turned to flee back down stairs my eye was caught by a small metal box sticking out from under an old painting. Funny…I hadn’t seen that before. I grabbed it and high tailed it out of there.

When I got back downstairs, I opened up the little metal box and what I found stole my breath. It was filled with old Kodak slides. There were about a hundred pictures in there… of all the kids with their Mom. I called my husband at work and excitedly told him the story. He said, “Today’s is the anniversary of her death.”

I have always had times when I felt someone near me. My sons when they were little have played with the little boy who is in the hallway. I have never seen him but 14 years ago I had a stillborn little boy…. I fainted and fell in the hallway before rushing to the hospital only to loose him and the little boy they have seen is in that hallway….there is also a dog that is in my bathroom. I also knew when my Grandmother called to tell me my second cousin, her great nephew, had died. I picked up the phone and all she said was HI and I said “how did it happen”….. I knew it was Tommy and that he was dead.
I was an NBC gal too….. Another World was always my fave.

The book sounds awesome…. best of luck!!!

Hey there…so I am loving all these new friends on FB and Myspace :) I’m hoping that you all will enjoy The Amoveo Series.

Amy S. had asked how I pick my character’s names. I guess you could say they just…come to me. Samantha has always been a favorite name of mine and Malcolm has a strong but sexy ring to it. I will tell you that Sam’s Grandparents, Helen and Jack Costigan are my actual Great-Grandparents names. Samantha is probably a bit like me…except for the whole shape shifting thing LOL!

If I could travel in time…probably the 1940’s WW II or during the Salem Witch trials. Both of those eras fascinate me :)

As for finding ghosts…I think you have to be open to it and being someplace with lots of history will certainly increase the odds.

Congratulations on the new series, Sara! :)

Oooh, paranormal experiences, eh? Well, I’ve had my fair share of them! Sadly, most of them haven’t been very pleasant at all. :( Over the 9 years I’ve lived in my current house, I’ve been haunted by a very dark man who has, thankfully, dulled down over the last couple years and isn’t so frightening anymore. However, to take his place is something in the attic that breathes close to you when you go up there. I’ve only ever dared to go in the attic twice, and both times I’ve heard that breathing. Aside from that, I’ve heard music that disappeared when I went looking for it, saw a hooded figure in my room one night rifling through my bookshelf (the books were rearranged too), seen a cat made of black static, and a couple other things. Hehe, I’ve lived a pretty paranormal life! ;)

and soaps and Star Trek. With you on Kirk, for certain, original and new. But I also watched Another World until it was cancelled. . . went on to Guiding Light because an actor from AW went there. If you want paranormal on GL, you had Reva’s clone (didn’t watch those days), walking through a painting and going back in time, psychic Reva. . . and that’s all I can think of. And there certain is plenty of romance on soaps, even if there are few happily ever afters on them!

I was an actress initially after college and got some work here and there on NY based soaps. I did some stuff on Another World, Guiding Light and As the World Turns. Nothing major but worked here and there. It was pretty cool to work alongside some of the actors I watched as a teen.
Tom Eplin, who played Jake on Another World, was even hotter in person and a HUGE flirt. Definitely made the days on set more fun!

Sara: First, Star Trek and Lori Handeland? Awesome! Second, I really love reading about places I know / have lived. Reading those familiar spots and being able to really picture how a place looks makes for a great reading experience. I imagine it is just as cool to write a place you know and love. Is it also hard trying to make your action fit in places you know but don’t quite fit and / or having to tweak places you know to fit your action?

I wouldn’t say I’ve had much in the way of paranormal experiences. However, there is one place that gives everyone in my family the creeps. My grandmother’s place was out in the woods, so there were lots of places to go hiking and such. There was one spot that was very beautiful - artistically strewn with rocks, lots of trees, and even a waterfall during spring runoff - but it gave every one of us a “bad feeling” and my grandmother’s dogs refused to go there. We’d occasionally visit back to see if other members of the family or visitors felt the badness as well. Some did, some didn’t, but every one of the family felt it without being prompted.

Not really a ghost story but kinda.

We had to put my rottiweiller down due to bone cancer. We did it at home but they had to inject into the muscle as she refused to have it in the vein (just come out of the vets where she had been put under for xrays etc). Anyway because inject was intramusclar she went to sleep but didn’t actually pass for sometime. She was inside in her favourite position by our sofa. My partner swears she died at 10.30pm because he saw her with his mother (long dead). His mum was in her rocking chair with Shar beside her and she told my partner that she would look after her.
Recently my grandmother died. The day before she passed she told my mum she could hear singing (there was none that mum could hear), beautiful voices grandma said. Then she asked mum if she could see Bodie playing. Bodie was my uncles dog that unknown to grandma had been put down the day before. These comments were of great comfort to my mother as she believes Bodie and Grandma are together now.

Hey Sara, Thanks so much for spending time with us today. I have not read your books yet, but am planning on it as I read all the great reviews. I do have a little paranormal story to share - I was at work one day many years ago and my boyfriend at the time called me. That was not unusual at all. He was chatting with me for a while (probably to get up his courage) and then told me he actually did call me for a reason, that he had something to tell me. And before he could say anything more, I told him - “You are calling to tell me my grandmother died.” He was kind of surprised and asked if one of my brothers had already called me to let me know. I was able to tell him that no one in my family had talked to me that day. I realized she had passed because the night before, I had gotten an “empty call”, meaning the phone rang, but when I answered there was no sound on the other end and I had gotten these type of calls before when other members of my family had passed on.

    Hi, Sara!

I can’t say I’ve had any encounters. If I’m freaked out by walking in the dark, I can only imagine having something like that happen to me would freak me really out!

  71. Comment by Wendy — May 27, 2009 @ 3:34 pm

Although there was this one time where I was at work and suddenly they announced a code blue in 7th floor but 7th was closed that night so they couldn’t possibly be any codes up there since there’s no patients! So I make a joke to a fellow nurse about it being a ghost and she started telling me how one time an old supervisor was coming out the elevator and fell right down, having an MI and died. And then a few times after that the elevator would open by itself and stay open a few seconds then just close.

Just as she is telling me this, we here thudding, like some is running, from the floor up which was 7th and I swear, I had goose bumps in my arms! Even that little bit freaked me out! I’m such a wimp…

    Thanks for coming by Sara!

Weird happenings? They kind of run rampent in my family. I’ve had a lot of dreams that have come true (Unfortunately, I have yet to dream about winning lottery numbers), cousins have predicted things and I think my grandmother came to me when she died. She had been in the hospital for a couple of weeks (I was 13 at the time) and everyone knew she wasn’t coming home. They didn’t tell ME this because she and I were pretty close but I think I knew. One night as I was in bed, I heard a beeping noise. When it stopped there was a …. I hesitate to say figure because it wasn’t in any form….a white flash at the foot of my bed. It wasn’t until the next evening that I learned my Grandma had died and at the exact moment all of this happened. Since then, I’ve felt her presence quite a few times and even in front of a friend. My friend and I were sitting at my kitchen table talking and somehow we got on the subject of my Grandma. I was talking about her (and I THINK I was telling the above story) when my pop can moved on it’s own a few inches across the table. I laughed and said “Hi Grandma!” but my friend totally freaked out, left the room and wouldn’t come back come hell or high water. (Grandma had a sense of humor!)

As I’m not familiar with your books (for shame!) my question will be somewhat general. Of all the books ever written…what one (or series) would you have liked to have written?

  74. Comment by T. Davis — May 27, 2009 @ 4:21 pm

The strangest thing that happened to me was when I was about five years old. I was asleep in my room when a man walked in, picked me up, and carried me into my mother’s room. The man was glowing, so brightly that I couldn’t see his face. My mother woke up in surprise when she realized that I was in her bed! I explained to her what happened, but she just chalked it up to an overactive childhood imagination…though years later, when I was grown, I mentioned that to her and she didn’t seem too convinced that it was a figment of my imagination. :D

Hi there..I’m back :) I’m really enjoying all of the experiences people are posting.

As for my soap opera career…it’s really not that exciting.LOL! I did lots of extra work, under/5 and day player stuff. My best gig was on Another World I played Officer Baird. It was great to get any paid work and those shows were fun to work on.

As for what do I wish I had written? hmmmm…..I think that Christine Feehan’s Ghostwalker series is just so inventive. I really love it and hope that readers will enjoy my series the same way! Sigh…one cand dream.

I know that many of you want print…and so do I! I’ve got to sell just a few more ebooks and then I ge sent to print! Whooo HOO! So not only would you 6.99 purchase get you 100 entries for the i-touch it also gets us closer to print.

So….any more good ghost stories? I’ve got a few more…but our party goes on for another 10 days and I’ll save it for a little later. ;)

Hi there. I am following Sara on Twitter. Sara, I’ve never read any of your books before, but I read the review and it sounds interesting. I’ve read a lot of reviewers disenchanted with the destined or life mate story line, yet I’ve also read authors who did it quite well (C.L. Wilson in particular comes to mind). What are some of the special challenges you face when you write about characters who are “meant to be together” and how do you meet them?

  78. Comment by Elisa Jankowski — May 27, 2009 @ 4:46 pm

I was really close to my grandparents and they passed away when I was pretty young (actually within four years of each other). In high school, there were times when I’d be completely alone in a room and I could smell my grandfather and/or feel like I wasn’t completely alone in the room. Later on in life, I would be working and realize my hair smelled like my grandmother - like she had been playing with it. It was comforting to know they were still with me even though they were gone. I think it had more to do with a need I had for their presence, as I was going through some tough times personally. I don’t sense them anymore, so I can only guess that they no longer feel the compulsion to watch over me.

I love your story, which just corroborates with stories I’d heard that children naturally sense spirits. I suppose it’s because their minds are wide open to all experiences and are perhaps innocent enough to witness such beings. How neat! :)

I posted information on this event on my blog (http://elisajankowski.blogspot.com), which autofeeds into my facebook notes (http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=27710637&ref=name#/profile.php?id=27710637&ref=profile)

Hi, Sara. Love Westerly and will be there off and on this summer since one of my best friends has moved there permanently!

How many books are planned for your shifter series?

(I’ve befriended Sara on FB. I’ve voted in the poll.)

  82. Comment by Sara Taney Humphreys — May 27, 2009 @ 5:02 pm

Hey Kimberly…that’s a great question about the life mates. In this series the Amoveo have 1 pre-destined soul mate. Their abilities don’t manifest until puberty. One of their abilities is dream walking. They find their mate in the dream realm first and then are able to connect in the physical realm. The catch in “The Amoveo Legacy” is that Samantha is a hybrid but she doesn’t know it, therefore Malcolm faces a special set of challenges. I hope you’ll take a chance on my new series and check it out!

  83. Comment by Sara Taney Humphreys — May 27, 2009 @ 5:03 pm

Oops! I almost forgot. This series is planned to be 5 books.

If you’re going to be in Westerly on August 8th, come by Paddy’s from 1-4pm for the book signing!

I find it awesome about paranormal little stories, because it brings me back to when I loved my imagination and wishing for things to be real– and the stories told to have me believe again.

The only event I can really remember and it happened a few times for me in my childhood, is during the times in my old home, before my first move, I used to go down the stairs which leads to the foyer and the front door. And each time I have to stop because I swear I hear someone calling out my name, faintly like it was from far away, and each time I call back to my mom to ask her if she called me, but she keeps telling me she didn’t, and the voice was always feminine. Now a-days I just catch in the corner of my eye a presence of a white cat, which has to be a ghost since the two cats we have, one is black and one is orange with bits of white.

    2. Yes weird things do happen. Some times it is dreams. On the eve of my 5th birthday, I dreamed of my uncle on the battlefield in Korea where he was at the time. Next morning I told my parents he was killed. Got a sound scolding and told I couldn’t dream what was go happen. My grandparents got notification that afternoon that he was killed at the time and in the manner I’d dreamed. Have “felt” things often and known things were happening. Was trying to get to sleep one night when my husband and daughter were driving home from Florida. Was just dozing off when I heard a squeak and my heart rate jumped. Next day when we were talking about their trip, I discovered my daughter hit a possum on the interstate at exactly the time I “heard” the squeak. There have been many, many more instances. I often know someone is going to call seconds before the phone rings.

Welcome - your books sounds intriguing and I will have to give the link a look I am hoping its an ebook!!

    2) For a person that loves paranormal I have always been the first to say to my family do not come back as a ghost and haunt me — I don’t think I could take it. My experience happen when I was in college abroad and my dad was having major surgery in the states. I had a “dream” of my grandfather (we were in present time and he had passed a couple years before) the night before my dad’s surgery. In my dream I kept trying to tell everyone that he couldn’t be here that he was dead. They ignored me and he turned and looked at me in my dream and said ” Yup I am dead - you and I both know it - I just stopped by to tell you your dad was going to be OK” It freaked me out a bit but I always liked my dream because I felt in control. When I woke up I felt better and later I learned my dad had the same dream about his father telling him he was going to be OK - the grandpa who was in mine was my mom’s father.

My husband and I were traveling late one night on an unlighted stretch of highway thru the country. Lights glared in the rearview mirror for about a mile. When we slowed down hoping the car behind would pass, lights glared in the outside driver’s mirror and reflected up from the macadam, then our car rocked, but nothing passed us. The lights in the rearview were gone. We looked at each other and said at the same time: “What was that?” We have no idea.

I live in an old farmhouse in VA and when my kids were little there seemed to be alot of paranormal activity here. It has quieted down a lot now that they are adults. One evening my friend and I were sitting in the living room which is actually a LR/DR combo and the sofa divided the two, when out of the kitchen doorway came 3 distinct black shadows of different heights that stopped at the back of the sofa and stayed there for about 5-10 mins. It seemed like a man, woman and child and they just vanished. My mother, who lived with us for a while, often said she saw a shadow person going up the stairs and into the back bedroom that we used for storage.

I grew up in a very old farmhouse. People had died (of natural causes) there. I always was seeing shapes when I was younger and had a problem sleeping in a room by myself. I usually did the “camp out” on my folks bedroom floor.
I tend to see animal shapes in our newer house- the pets we lost here. And I feel our one cat get on my bed at night, turn on the light- and my other cat is yawning- saying “why did you turn the light on- it’s just Ruby”

Hi Sara, congrats on your book, my kind of story. Cool story about your grandfather. I’ve never had any such experiences myself. I’ve been going on vacation to Westerly for years, try to get there every summer if I can. Someone in the family will usually rent a place and the rest of us barge in for a few days if we can’t stay the whole time. I don’t know about this year, but I sure hope to, so maybe I’ll see you at Paddy’s in August. Have eaten and hung out there many times, usually park my beach chair down that way because I love to listen to the classic rock playing all day. Years ago they’d have the live bands playing every day,

    Hi Sara -

Congratualtions on the book! I enjoy Christine Feehan’s Ghostwalker series too, although I’m still a sucker for her macho Carpathians… :)

I live in San Diego, home of the Whaley House which has been featured on all sorts of ghost hunter-type shows. Lots of people died in the house and around the house, and as a kid on a field trip with my school, my friend and I smelled them making coffee. It was such a normal smell that it never occurred to us to even question it.

WHen we went back downstairs we saw that the kitchen area was roped off and asked one of the docents where they made the coffee. As soon as we saw their faces we knew they weren’t making coffee. No one cooks or has food or drinks in the house. We were very spooked!

    Fun interview!

    Lisa :)

    Hiya, Sara!
Regarding paranormal stuff, I’ve had only a few instances where I did a double check! I’ve tried to explain them away, but they always stay in my mind. “Did that really happen?” kinda sitches.

One odd thing that occurred involved my cousin when she was a toddler…must be 25+ yrs now. We were at one of my aunts house watching a scary movie…Ghost Story, I believe. She was sleeping, but the movie must have affected her because she woke screaming for her dad. He was not with us at the time, he had stayed at home. After we had gotten back to their house, he eventually asked if everything had been ok. He then explained that he’d fallen asleep on the couch & was woken up at about 9:30 pm by my cousin yelling for him. He said he could swear he heard her running down the hall towards him. Weird thing was that was about the time she woke up from her nightmare. Pretty weird.

Best wishes on your first book in the Amoveo Legacy series!

    Hi Sarah
This is a great post and i enjoyed reading all of the comments.
I do think that The Amoveo Legacy sounds wonderful and am looking forward to reading it..just my type of storyline!!
Sometimes i wonder about the experiences that i have had, although sometimes small i get the feeling that there is more and i should pay attention.
My mother on the other hand is a definite believer. She started telling me her experiences when i was very young and i always knew she would never lie because i still woke her up in the middle of the night scared, why would she chance it more with me being scared of ghosts?? The house that she grew up in was haunted. There was a baby that cried and someone that sounded like a man with boots that walked up and down the stairs.Doors would open that would be shut all the way. Everybody lived with it until the house burned down mysteriously. A few days after the fire, my mom who was 17 at the time walked to the ruins and sat on a step that was still standing on the front porch. She said all of a sudden she felt an invisible hand touch her shoulder and rest on it.She thinks now that it was a gesture of reassurance, but at the time it scared the heck out of her and she ran down the street barefoot.
I have always wanted to look up the details of this house but never know where to start.
I love your blog, I am a subscriber and i took the poll;)

  113. Comment by Strogan/Gabby — May 27, 2009 @ 11:53 pm

I don’t know as it’s a close encounter, just one of “those” things (also known as a Gabby moment) - a couple times I have gotten what I tend to term as a feeling of dread (sort of like someone walking over your grave w/ice cold boots on) which has always been followed by someone close dying within a few months. Not a pleasant thought.

Good Morning everyone! It was awesometo wake up to all these posts. I loved the wide variety of experineces. I tell ya,the more I hear other people’s experiences, the more I’m convined there is more than just this life.

Ok..Chris Galpin posted on here and bought my book?! Chris is an old buddy of mine from college who I haven’t seen in years…THANKS CHRIS :)We did theater together and you guys are in the Boston area you should check out his improv troupe Speed of Thought Players!!!

I was posed the question, What kind of fruit would I be? Hmmm. What a cool question. I’ve never really thought about it before…but I’d have to go with Pineapple. Mostly because it’s my favorite fruit and it’s exotic. I’m not exotic but always wish I was so if I’m gonna be a piece of fruit…I’m gonna be an exotic one. LOL. :)

So here’s my ghost story for today.

As I mentioned earlier, we own the house my husband grew up in and his late Mother and Grandmother both lived here for many years before their deaths.

When my son Ian was about 4 years old he told me there was an old lady in his closet. I said, “Excuse me?” He said, “There’s an old lady in my closet and she waves at me sometimes at night.”

WEIRD! He never really mentioned it again. He’s the oldest of my four boys–and now 13 years old– and none of the others have said anything.

My we have at times heard somone walking around upstairs when no one is up there.

I have another idea for a spirit series…..now if only I had more time to write. sigh.

My most memorable experience was when I was around 10. We rented a house and while moving in, a boy just appeared in the road, on a bike. He rode up to me and my cousin and told us that someone was buried under the house and that there are tunnels under the house. He then turned around and headed back across the road, but disappeared before he made it all the way across. We lived there for a little over a year and had many things happen. Lights came on, the tv came on, the front door came unlocked and opened. There was a small building outside, with a padlock on it. The door would open, with the padlock still locked, and the light would be on. The dogs would bark at nothing. Mom would feel someone get into bed with her. I was crawling around on the floor and something cut my leg, but there was nothing there to cut it. I still have the scar from that. I oculd go on and on, but those are the biggest things that happened. It sure made me a believer that there is more out there than we realize.

I had several encounters at my parent’s house which is over 110 years old. Most recently I was staying overnight with my infant daughter and she started crying. I did not wake and felt someone sitting on my leg to wake me up. Very real, very crazy. My mom swears she’s actually seen the ghost lady that lives in the house.

I’m back! :) And I’ve brought another ghost story with me. ;) This one actually happened to my mother. Well… more of my mother and me.

This happened probably two years ago. One night, I was trying to get some sleep, as the first day of school was only hours away, but I couldn’t because something kept walking up in the attic. Now, I know I didn’t imagine the footsteps, because my father’s admitted to hearing them, too. Well, seeing as my bed was only five feet from the ceiling at the time (loft bed and all) I could hear the footsteps very well… and it was unpleasant. After school, I told my mother about it, and she didn’t believe me. Well, I wasn’t too surprised with that, given that she hasn’t believed any of my ghost encounters. I shrugged it off. Well, a few weeks later, my father had to leave for his duty on his ship at the time (Coast Guard) so my mom and I were alone for a few months. One night, my mom awoke with a start from a nightmare, and she looked around for my dad, remembering that he was gone. Suddenly, while she was sitting in bed, someone patted her shoulder and she could smell cigarette smoke. No one in the house smokes (and no guests are allowed to smoke in the house) so this was certainly unusual. Later that day she came to me and said, “I think there might be something to your ghost stories. I’m pretty sure Grandpa visited me last night.”

I worked in a haunted pizza place in Lakenheath, England when I was stationed there ‘88-’90. A friendly woman who had lived and died in the house where the pizza place was located downstairs. The living area was upstairs and used for storage and our bathroom. I went upstairs one evening at closing time and found all of the doors open. I closed them all, went to the bathroom and when I came out not a few minutes later, the doors were all open. I closed them again and by the time I got to the stairs, they were open again…..I asked the manager and he said the ghost just liked them open sometimes.

  149. Comment by Sara Taney Humphreys — May 28, 2009 @ 5:03 pm

Loving the stories. Hey by the way… I noticed we’ve got some military families here. FYI.. I have a very special contest running through the summer for U.S. Military Wives only! You can find the details in the CONTEST section of my website http://sarataneyhumphreys.com

A shape shifter is a being that can shift into something–or take the form of something– other than itself. I tried to create a new and different species with The Amoveo people. The Amoveo are an ancient race of shape shifters. They have 10 animal clans among their race. They are dream walking, telepathic, shifters that have one pre-destined soul mate. If they don’t find their mate by the time they turn 30, they slowly lose their abilities and die. Once they mate they live exceptionally longer life spans, age more slowly and they can only have chidlren with their mates. One of their coolest abilities is that they can travel with the speed of thought.

  151. Comment by Sara Taney Humphreys — May 28, 2009 @ 5:26 pm

Hey there! Shape shifters are beings that can take the form of another. For this series I wanted to create a new race of shifters. The Amoveo are an acient race of shape shifters. There are 10 animal clans among their people. They are dream walking, telepathic shifters that have one pre-destined soul mate. They can only have children with their mates. Once they mate they age at a signifcantly slower rate and live exceptionally long lives. However, if they don’t find their mate by the time they turn 30, then they begin to lose their abilities and they slowly die. If one Amoveo dies then their mate eventually dies and it wipes out any offspring they might have had. Their race has been hunted to the brink of extinction by the Caedo Family one of only 2 families of humans that know of their existence. Intrigued??? I hope you’ll check out “The Amoveo Legacy.

  152. Comment by Joy Taney — May 28, 2009 @ 6:04 pm

In the Amoveo series, it seems that there is a definite and real existence of true love, in the form of the perfect mate. Is this form of destiny going to be shown through other books? What happens when someone tries to fight destiny–do they and their intended mate simply lose their powers, or is there something greater at work?

Glad you liked the message Elie…I try to do that when I can :)

Hey Joy :) The key the Amoveo’s survival is finding that 1 destined mate but true love isn’t alaways smooth. In Book 2 we’re going to see the heroine fight things a little more than Samantha did in Book 1. I don’t want to give anything away…but in the coming books you’ll see more about what happens when an Amoveo loses their mate. Stay tuned…..

Your books sound fascinating, I’m definitely intrigued!
Me personally, I haven’t had any “close encounters,” but I do know people who have. One story in particular happened to my grandparents. They were driving around with a friend of theirs sitting in the backseat. They were talking and joking around, having a good time, but then their friend started cracking up hysterically and shortly thereafter died. Basically, he laughed to death. But the uber weird part is whenever they drove down that same stretch of highway, he would always appear in the backseat of their car and looked as though he was trying to tell them something. Creepy.

After they sold the car, he stopped appearing. I must say that I feel sorry for whomever purchased the car after them.

    Good morning everyone :)

We’ve been talkin a lot about ghost stories so let’s change gears a bit.
I’m going to post a few questions with my answers…but I’d like you to answer them too.

If you could be any animal what would it be? A wolf. They are beautiful, mysterious and fiercly dedicated to their families.

If you could meet anyone from History who would it be and what would you do? Jesus. So I could ask him…What would Jesus do?

If you could go anywhere in the world, where would it be? I would love to visit the Pyramids in Egypt or go on Safari in Africa.

SO how about you? What are your answers?

Joan of ARC because she kicked butt for the cause she believed in and ask why she did not fight when she was a condemned heretic that lead to her death?

    1. wolf- actually the same answerrs why, honestly; they are beautiful, fiercely protective of their family(like me), and only kill to protect or eat.
    2. hmmm idk who I would want to meet, James dean- I think, to ask him if he really was the “bad boy”
    3. where would I go? Anywhere? Transylvania to see if it really is as spooky as the stories and to check out the Carpathian Mountains.

  187. Comment by Karin — May 29, 2009 @ 7:23 pm

Wow. What a story about Ian and the ghost of your grandfather. The closest I’ve come to something like that is seeing a face (not my own) in the bathroom mirror in the downstairs bathroom at my parents’ house. It was a bit creepy, especially when I knew nobody else could’ve been in the bathroom with me. Of course, I work in a reportedly haunted building, where I’m currently alone waiting to be done with work so I can go home, and I have heard some odd things on other nights when I’ve been the only one here. It can get a bit creepy. lol

  188. Comment by Silverstein — May 29, 2009 @ 8:20 pm

If you could be any animal what would it be?
    — Hmmm… that’s kind of hard to answer. A falcon or owl makes sense, given my ever-present desire to fly, but… hmmm. Yeah, I think I’d go with an owl.

If you could meet anyone from History who would it be and what would you do?
    — I’d choose Shakespeare, Dante, or Abraham Lincoln. I’m sure we’d end up talking about writing (or in Abe’s case, the times) and not doing much else.

If you could go anywhere in the world, where would it be?
    — Well I’ve always wanted to go to Tokyo… Then again, I always wanted to go to Egypt, too. Hmm… Tokyo, or ancient Egypt… Tokyo… Ancient Egypt… Can I just go to both?

    Hmm,

    1. What animal would I be? Anything from the Cat family. They are sleek, gorgeous, have fantastic markings and personality. But I must say that wolves are also quite tempting because I absolutely love them too!

    2. If I could meet anyone in history, who would it be and what would we do? Hmm, I would say Empress Elisabeth of Austria (one of my favorite musicals is based on her), Marilyn Monroe, and Joseph Smith. I’d just want to talk, discuss, and generally chill with them.

    3. Where in the world would I love to go? Japan. It’s not only part of my heritage, but I’ve been there once and would absolutely LOVE to go again.

  191. Comment by linda — May 30, 2009 @ 4:28 am

I havent had any hauntings personally, however, there was a pub down the street from me that was haunted. Glasses would fall off a table, pioctures would fly off the wall, etc. My husband was in the basement getting some beer, and the door slammed shut and the door locked. He looked like a darn ghost himself when he got out of there. :)

  192. Comment by Sara Taney Humphreys — May 30, 2009 @ 6:24 am

Hey There! Loving the ghost stories. I am actually at the beach house in Rhode Island this weekend, where “The Amoveo Legacy” is set.

Here’s one other ghostly encounter for you. When my son Ian was about 4 years old he and his Dad went to the cemetary to plant flowers at his Mom’s grave. They were there at the crack of dawn and the place was deserted.

Just as my husband began planting flowers Ian pulled on his sleeve and said,”Daddy, who’s that man over there?”

Will looked around and there wasn’t a single person in sight. “What man?”

“That man, right there. The one in the suit.” Ian pointed to an empty spot nearby.

Will still could see no one.

“I don’t like this place Daddy. It’s creepy. I wanna go home.”

Will agreed and they left in record time.

    2. Book 2: An Amoveo Heart will probably be out around August. No release date yet but it’s coming….
    3. I have another series I’m working on. It’s about a coven of vampire chicks that live and work in NYC. Kind of Sex in the City for vamps but there’s murder and mayhem mixed in. I am hoping to have that contracted by the fall. We shall see….

Did you like “The Amoveo Legacy”?

Hehe, that series sounds fun. I think I’ll have to check that out when it comes around.

Unfortunately, I haven’t gotten to read it all the way through yet (my TBR pile is massive and I’ve got a bunch of stuff for BBB to read that takes precedence over personal work) but I did start into it, and I’m intrigued. ;)

I really want to read this book as well! It sounds so interesting! But so does the other series that you are working on! What is that series going to be called? Vamps in the City? for your Sex in the City :) lol ok I have probably bugged you enough for now! ;)

    Hello Sara,
I just finished reading a story by Celis T. Rono and accidentaly ended up at Bitten By, and found your post. This is how I find books to read well they find me I should say and I am glad I was feeling curions tonight.
I have to share a recent experience that happened just after my uncle passed away. It was about 4 days after his passing and we had a small family going away party of sorts for him he was a character and did not want a funeral. Needless to say my boys and I had just come home from the gathering and I was sitting in my living room when a Sympathy card from my friend slid acoss my coffee table, the card remained upright from one side of the table to the other, then it tipped off the table and fell to the floor, I knew it was my uncle, his presence was felt before we knew he had died. The last words he said to me the night before he died were “I love you sweetie, I hope you feel better” He and I had ended up in the ER at a hospital here in Boise at the same time. Sadly he was very sick, having dialasys every day and he shouldn’t have been released fromt he hospital that night as he died the following morning. We have had a lot of things go “missing” only to turn up right where we already looked, the remote control from the TV does it alot and keys too, it is funny most of the time. Other experiences with the paranormal for my family haven’t always been as fun but we have quite a history, I’d love to share again some time. Anyway I’m glad I found you and look forward to reading your book.
    Warmest Regards,
    Felicity

My mother thinks the old man who used to own her house before his death still lives there. He rocks in the chair when there is no air movement in the living room. He shakes her ice tea glass. Her cats will both suddenly stare in one direction - at nothing she can see. But we all knew him, he was a very nice fellow so we are not afraid of him.

Thanks for the contest. My iPod was stolen from my home about a month ago, so I really hope I’m your winner!

Hope all goes well for you!

    Ravzie

    I’m baaaaaaack. ;)

Hmmm… anywhere in history? Well, I think I’ll have to hearken back to one of my answers to the “where would you go in the world” question. Because I would totally pick ancient Egypt. ;) If that wasn’t an option, then I’d pick feudal Japan so I could see the famed warriors for myself.

Where would i go in history? Hmmm
I would not want the medieval times, I love the idea of a knight in shining armor, but i like my amenities too much- ac and toilets
I guess the same goes for the wild west- although I would love to meet Calamity Jane and see the wild west show!
You know what I would love? To go back to when the Incas were still alive and thriving! That to me would be a blast! The had running water, toilets- of a kind.
They were smart and inventive, a people that wholly believed in their gods, traditions(even if both were bloody), and in advancing their society. I would love to be a part of that type of society, to see their development; know their thoughts.

I’ve been reading science fiction and fantasy since my teens. As I am in my 50’s now, that was a lot of years ago. Back then, much of SC/F was pulp fiction - monthly magazines that were the size of a book, but much thinner, and printed on newsprint. Later I got hooked on paranormal fantasy. Oh the strange looks and comments I got. It was made clear that I was (1)Very weird, (2)Not very smart since I read “junk”, and (3)going straight to hell. Now 40 years later, much of the science fiction written back then has become a reality. Man has traveled in space, walked on the moon, and can carry a computer in his pocket.

As to fantasy, paranormal, and supernatural fiction - No, I don’t think it is all going to come true, but reading it encouraged “What if . . ” thinking.” In real life, that helps you lconsider other possibilities, adapt, and adjust. At 57, I think it is my most useful skill.

A story that I can share- when my folks moved into their house- it was interesting. Us women went there first to get it clean up for the guys to move the furniture in. When we got there we were about an hour ahead of the guys. And for that hour we tried to get in. We had the key, but the door would not open for any of us. My mom and I tried to even open the door together- but it wouldn’t budge. When my dad and the rest of the guys got there, The door just smoothly opened- no resistance or anything- We had managed to unlock it somehow- but the knob wouldn’t even move! Of course we got kidded about being lazy, they wouldn’t believe us! But that darn door would NOT open.
As we lived there strange things would happen- The iron would move around. I would have clothes laid out, go take a shower but when i came back to my room other clothes would be in their spots. I would get into fights with my folks about them trying to chose what I wore- and they constantly told me it wasn’t them. But then their cigarettes would start disappearing. by the pack. not just a few here and there, but packs out of the carton….. by this time i started to help the old lady next door, and would complain to her about it, since i was getting the blame for the cigs disappearing and my clothes were still being moved- and Ms. Violet said- “Darn Jimmy” And when i asked her who Jimmy was she told me-
Jimmy was the man who owned the house before us. There were many rumors around town about him, as there will be in a small place, but he was a small town man who loved to mess with people. He had died in the Kitchen of the house, and she said that he would pull practical pranks on her all the time when he was alive- moving her smokes, giving her a hard time about always ironing and so would hide her iron from her, and griping about her never wearing dresses anymore. Once she told me that I understood, and the next time that my clothes got moved, I hollered out- “ok Mr. Jimmy I will wear the darn dress” My folks looked at me funny, but it worked, as long as I wore 1 dress a week, my clothes stayed where i put them. Some people are uncomfortable in my folks house, I ‘m not. Mr. Jimmy is a nice dead guy, who just happens to like to joke around.

I think that the best is reading everyone else’s experiences.

Look forward to reading more of ‘em!

  222. Comment by Susan K — May 31, 2009 @ 4:43 pm

When you are writing do you identify with all the characters or just the main character you are writing about? Do you feel how they would each think and act or does it evolve as you write?

  223. Comment by Sara Taney Humphreys — May 31, 2009 @ 5:19 pm

    Hi Susan :)
I definitely identify with all of them. I think my background as an actor helps me when trying to get into each character’s head. I do have some preconceived notions about each character’s feelings, but a great deal of it evolves as I write. It’s a little bit of an out of body experience.

I know that those we love who have passed on are still with us. My grandmother passed away when I was a little girl but she still comes to visit me. One time I was in my car with my daughter (who is a seen-it-all teenager. lol) and all of sudden the smell of flowers was overwhelming. Katie asked me if that was Grandma coming to visit. She knew I don’t wear strong scents and it was winter in New Jersey so nothing was in bloom. Whenever I smell flowers I know my grandma is with me. I cannot wait to read your books! When the contest began I twittered, facebooked, and mentioned to everyone I know about the contest. Good luck to everyone. ;)

When were you on AW.? I met Charles Grant back in 1989…On my birthday. I won tickets to go to a homeshow he was at the day I came out of the hospital with my first son. A week after they called me to tell me I won the meet and greet with him….. It was soo fun. One biker dude won it too and wouldn’t let his wife come to the meet and greet made her wait outside. LOL He was a nice guy. Everyone was trying to get storyline details out of him. Did that happen to you? Does it happen now that you are an author than in the acting?

  229. Comment by Sara Taney Humphreys — June 1, 2009 @ 3:39 am

    Good Morning!
Well I wasn’t a contracted player….meaning I wasn’t a lead role. I had a small part on Another World as a police Officer Baird. I only spoke occasionally and usually did glorified extra work. It was fun though and sure beat waiting tables! Hey…I figure there are lots of actors who don’t even get that work, so I always counted myself lucky. It was a lot of fun to work on the show because I grew up watching it. Tom Eplin, who played Jake, was even more gorgeous in person. Yummy!

I haven’t pursued my acting career for a very long time. I’ve got 4 boys and acting is a tough road to choose…especially if you’ve got kids. I have worked for the past several years as a public speaker. It’s lots of fun and I really enjoy it.

Guess what?! I found out last night that “The Amoveo Legacy” is the #1 BEST SELLER at Devine Destinies!!! Whoo Hooo! I don’t if they updated the site to reflect that…but it should be done by the end of the day :)

    Hi,

I loved your interview and the prize is very generous ;). I’ve been a Trekkie from my childhood, there is just something great about it, even contagious:)

I also love the paranormal stuff and devour everything I can grab my hands on.

I’ve had a ghostly encounter, maybe not as vivid as yours but several times I heard my grandfather’s laughter in the house during the year he died, but afterwards it stopped. Also, and this still happens, at the moment I wake up and open my eyes I see him sitting on my bed or a chair beside the bed. He’s there for a few seconds and then he disappears. I was his favourite and I believe he hovers near me and watches over me. Your book sounds interesting. I’m going to check it out on the web and it goes on my TBR pile!

I use to watch Star Trek the next generation and decided to go and see the new Star Trek movie. I loved it and actually want to see it again. We have had so many various ghostly things at my apartment and one that stuck out the most for me. I was on the phone with my mom and looked up to the kitchen curtain being pushed all the way to the center like someone was looking out it. There was no one there and the window was closed so there was no breeze or anything. A week later or so my husband seen the same thing with our bedroom curtain.

Here’s another ghost story for you….

I was in my kitchen one afternoon with my son Leo, who was about 5 years old at the time. It was summer and I had the front door open to get a breeze. Out of nowhere I hear the screen door open and shut and a woman softly call my name..twice.

    Leo said,”Mommy who’s here?”

    I shrugged. “Hello?”

Nothing. No one was there and the screen door was closed…and latched.

Hi Sara! I can’t believe that you were on Another World!! That was one of my favorite soaps…I grew up watching Days of Our Lives and Another World. My mom watched them, she still watches Days. After Another World went off the air, I started watching Guiding Light. I used to Tivo it or I would go and sit with my patients (I am a nurse) if one of them had it on, or I would make beds at the time it was on…on the east coast it came on at 10 am.

I have to tell you about an experience I had. Two years ago my father passed away from colon cancer. He was only 68 and did not want to die. About 6 months or so after he died, a friend of mine had psychic party. Of course I wanted to know how my dad was. The psychic did not ask me any info but she made contact with my dad. She told me that my dad was really sorry about the computer…I almost fell out of the chair. A week before, my son’s computer died, we couldn’t even turn it on! She went on to explain that spirits sometimes travel along the electrical lines - she asked me if there was any particular light bulb that kept burning out…there were two in the hallway. At any rate my father was trying to come in and he entered the wrong way. He told her that by the time he realized what he did and tried to back out, it was too late!!! There was only a handful of folks that knew about the computer (my mom, my kids and a coworker). It was funny, once I talked with the psychic, I had such a great feeling knowing my dad was okay. I still miss him SO much, but feel more at peace.

Thanks for the book and the great contest!!

I think if anything happened, I might be freaked…unless it was like your son and not too bad…he was laughing after all.

  305. Comment by Liza — June 5, 2009 @ 6:33 am

I tend to dream things before they happen. It can me as simple as a conversation or as scary as dreaming someone’s death before it happens. Only problem is, I never have a time frame for when the even will happen.

I subscribe to the BBB newsletter and voted in the poll.

  306. Comment by Sara Taney Humphreys — June 5, 2009 @ 7:05 am

Hi Barbara. I do both as well. Although I find much of my writing is character driven. Even when I make an outline it tends to change along the way. Writing is sort of an out of body experience. LOL

Great contest! I’ve had all sorts of experiences with ‘paranormal’ if that’s what you want to call it, I don’t believe it’s so different or weird.. my grandmother passed away about 5 years ago and I sense her all over the place now, whether it be by smelling something that reminds me of her randomly or by seeing something that reminds me of her when I feel down (like a butterfly), I believe they send messages to us from beyond when we need them to. :)

I don’t know how to twitter or blog or any of that modern stuff. I’m 82 years old. When I read some of the comments they were about soap operas. Well, I was “around” when “The Guiding Light” was just a radio program. And by the time I had my first child, I was watching it on TV. I was really hung up on it, until they changed the concept of the program. And now it’s going off the air completely in September. I get nostalgic about things like that.

Ooh, a contest *and* a new author to discover–I love it! Your book sound fun, I am definitely looking forward to reading it.

Paranormal things happen all around us, all the time…we just have to keep our eyes, ears, and minds open. I’ve had benign experiences as well as some not-so-much. I live near “skinwalker” country in the Southwest. Let me tell you, those nasties are not what you want to run into, whether or not you believe in ‘em! I know many people who’ve had scary experiences that could only be explained by ticked off spirits…or perhaps just overactive imaginations, but I don’t believe it’s just that. I much prefer simpler things like thinking about a friend just before she calls, etc. Or a sexy shapeshifter who has my best interests in mind, lol!

    -I am a BBB subscriber.

  341. Comment by Kersty I — June 8, 2009 @ 10:50 am

    Hi Sara,

I’m looking forward to reading this series! I love hearing about an author’s favorite books/authors - I haven’t read any of Christine Feehan and Lori Handelan’s books but I will be checking them out.

  342. Comment by Sara Taney Humphreys — June 8, 2009 @ 10:57 am

HI Nicole, Sonya, Mary,Julie and Kersty!

Thanks for stopping by :) I’m psyched that you’re going to check out “The Amoveo Legacy” and I really hope you’ll enjoy it.

I find most paranorml phenomenom fascinating. I think the idea of true love is intoxicating…of course if it’s with a big, hot, mysterious shape shifter…all the better!

  345. Comment by Christina — June 8, 2009 @ 11:37 am

I once dreamed that a spirit came to me and told me to hurry because something bad had just happened to my best friend. She had recently moved to another city and when I woke up I called and called and got no answer and decided to hop a bus to her new place, an hour and a half away, and as I came to her door there she was about to go in with a bandaged head! She had been walking through a park and some kids in a truck had thrown a rock at her head! She was ok but alone and scared in a new city and somehow I was supposed to be told this (through the spirit) and come and help her! Others didn’t believe me but it really happened!

  346. Comment by Kayce C — June 8, 2009 @ 12:47 pm

I’ve only dreamed about close encounters.

  348. Comment by Teresa — June 8, 2009 @ 1:39 pm

We moved into a house a year ago and right away started seeing a man. We have no idea who this man is or when he’s going to appear. For instance, a couple weeks ago I was making dinner while talking to my husband (so I thought) I looked across the kitchen to ask my husband if he heard me because he wasn’t answering and there sat the guy on the stool at the breakfast bar. He disappeared as soon as I saw him but he was there for a brief second.

  351. Comment by Sara Taney Humphreys — June 8, 2009 @ 5:04 pm

    Hi Jill.
What inspired me to write this book? Well I’ve always loved the paranormal and I”m a hopeless romantic. I came up with the idea and decided to just do it. Part of me wanted to see if I could do it…and then once I had it down on paper I decided to take it to the next level and have it published.
    It’s all about passion.

  352. Comment by Sara Taney Humphreys — June 8, 2009 @ 5:05 pm

    Hi Cheryl!
My favorite book series….hmm…it’s a toss up between Christine Feehan’s Carpathian Series or Lori Handeland’s Nightcreature Series.
If I had to pick…..I’d say Lori Handeland’s Nightcreatures. Awesome droolworthy alpha males and kick ass, smart funny heroines.

  353. Comment by Sara Taney Humphreys — June 8, 2009 @ 5:08 pm

    Christina, Kayce and Teresa,
I love the dreams that provide messages. Those are the best. I’ve never seen a spirit manifestaiton…not sure what I’d do. Cry? Faint? Scream? Sit down and talk to them? Wet my pants? The options are many. LOL!

  354. Comment by Lori Anne W. — June 8, 2009 @ 5:51 pm

Hi Sara! I started reading your book today, I have read about 100 pages so far. It ROCKS!! I am looking forward to finishing and then reading Book 2! Will Book 2 need to be an e-book first like Book 1? I hope you do a signing in the DC/Maryland area! Congrats on the printing of book 1!!!

  355. Comment by Adrienne E. — June 8, 2009 @ 7:43 pm

Hey Sara, I haven’t actually had any close encounters, but I’ve had several false alarms. XD Every time I walk my dog at night I swear there’s something paranormal lurking, but nothing has resulted from my paranoid feelings as of yet.

    Here’s today’s reader question.

In a vampire series….if there is a human character who falls in love with a vamp do you want to see her turned or see her stay human?

  382. Comment by Sara Taney Humphreys — June 9, 2009 @ 4:43 pm

    Hi Liyana,
Glad you enjoyed the interview. Hmmmm Supernormal? I’m not familiar with that term. But could it be a normal character in a paranormal book? LOL.

  383. Comment by Addie M. — June 9, 2009 @ 5:30 pm

@Liyana: Could you have meant supernatural instead of supernormal?

  384. Comment by Sonya Allstun — June 9, 2009 @ 5:31 pm

I wish I did have the money to buy this book. I have had some ghostly encounters when I was younger and any time I tell anyone about them they look at me funny and you can tell they want to just laugh in fact some do. I dont get as many of the odd feelings as I use to or sightings. But I think as a grew older I learned to block them. I do still get feelings and dreams about things that have happened in some of the old homes we have lived in. In fact I freaked my hubbys aunt out when we moved in the house down from them and mentioned that I had a dream that a lady lived there once that fell in the bathroom and passed away in there and even pointed to the spot. She couldnt believe I knew it since I hadnt even lived in the area and it happened when I was about 5 or 6 and had never been in the area before then.

    What is your favorite book?

  387. Comment by Auriette — June 9, 2009 @ 7:58 pm

I’ve had a couple of brief encounters with the spirits of my pets. Like, one time I was in bed, and I felt a cat jump up on the bed, but I looked and no one was there. Turns out, all of my current pets were outside (this was years ago; they’re all indoor cats now).

I work in a theatre that used to be a jail, courthouse, and site of many executions in the early 20th century. I’m not sure what was on this location before the jail, but European settlements in this area date back 450 years. I have never personally encountered any of the spirits that inhabit the building, but I’ve talked to many people who have.

  388. Comment by Bev — June 9, 2009 @ 11:01 pm

The reviews of The Amoveo Legacy sound great, and I can’t wait to read it.

I lived in a upstairs apartment in Philadelphia with my boyfriend and his daughter and believed the place to be haunted. You could sense something watching you and hear footsteps at night and often the baby would look in a room and just scream and then cry–it was eerie and the place felt like there was an evil presence. We moved out within two weeks because we were so afraid.

Also a lifelong sci-fi fan here. I remember begging my parents to let me stay up long past bedtime on Fridays nights Star Trek’s final season during its original run. (Friday night at 9, I believe) My dad usually talked my mom into letting me. Of course, tv was not my only sci-fi outlet. The first Sci-fi movie I was in the theaters was 2001: A Space Oddessy. The first Sci-fi I ever bought was Heinlein’s Green Hills of Earth.

As far as your books are concerned, I honestly haven’t read any :( I am, however, a voracious reader and ‘consume’ at least 2-3 books per week. I’ll definately make a point to pick up your new one and let you know what I think. Thanks for the super contest!

  441. Comment by SandyM/Wynterose — June 10, 2009 @ 8:28 pm

Greetings, Sara! My step-mother’s house has a ghost that we hear open the front door, walk up the stairs (straight across from the door), and into what was my step-brother’s room and this ghost actually turns on the light and sometimes the TV. The lights are the old push button type. He also smokes a pipe as my step-mother says can smell the smoke from it in the wintertime regularly. I would only spend some holidays and a month in the Summertime there but it was enough to get used to him doing it. My current house has a ghost that likes Tupperware of all things. It’s not unusual to see it slide across the counter. Freaks out people visiting us when it only moves slightly as they think they are seeing things. Scares them when it flys or flips off the counter. After living in the house for almost 19 years, I just try to keep it put away especially if company is coming over. Paranormal Romance is a new genre for me to read but I’ve been doing so for the last year and will look your books up next time I’m at the library because of unemployment.

Waiting email confirmations on Twitter, Facebook, and Myspace and Twitter says that Sara has gone to bed because she’s not feeling well. Twittered the url. I’m off too.

    {*hugs*}
    Sandy M/Wynterose
