Sorry, I wasn’t done. I love Christopher Moore too. You seem to have the same sense of humor. I haven’t read any of your books yet, but I have added you to the top of my list.

How much do you think your experience as a psychotherapist contributed to your writing?

  11. Comment by Lorraine Minich — May 26, 2009 @ 9:07 am

I guess, i’m the first to comment.Welcome Mark, your Vlog’s are awesome. What did I do Memorial day?
Went to the cemetary to visit my dear departed Mother in Law, and Father in law. MIL recently interred with FIL 2/09. Very upsetting, her grave was all dug up, huge mounds of soil, totally disturbed. Husband asked me if they moved her.
I said that wasn’t possible, was it? The cemetary said the ground was too wet, to till evenly yet. Maybe it was really zombies? Sorry I don’t have pictures.
The other thing I did on Memorial day was finish reading Road Trip, what a great book!!!!. My question is?
Why all the footnotes? some of them are fascinating, but others are irritating to the story line, Is it just your sense of humor, or is there a more nefarious recent (to irritate the reader?)

  12. Comment by Shell Bryce — May 26, 2009 @ 9:11 am

Were you and Kevin Smith separated at birth…. love the vlog and LMAO….
I admit that I have yet to get my greedy little hands on your books but will try and remedy that asap…. pick me for the arc list even better. I added you on FB and Twitter, get the newsletter and everything else from BBB and will be posting links on FB twitter and my blog later today….

thanks for entertaining us today and coming back to BBB

  13. Comment by Elie — May 26, 2009 @ 9:11 am

I was able to chase my kids out long enough to watch your videos. Funny, funny! Was that Jaye Wells in the gun bra? I nearly fell out of my chair!
It was my memorial evening that was well..icky. My husband and his buddy though it would be fun to try about 12 types of insanity sauce. Sure it was good for a few laughs, sure he was able to take the hottest, Death Sauce I think it was called. Well he was praying for death about two in the AM. I know, I know yuck. But, there is a lesson to be learned here!

  14. Comment by Mark Henry — May 26, 2009 @ 9:16 am

Hi Elie - I’d have to say that my psychotherapy background made me incredibly cynical, as in I’m a complete burn out. So it helped a lot when creating Amanda and her “don’t give a shit” attitude!

Jo and T.M, I’m blowing out Elmer’s Glue, right now.

Heather - No! And I better get one on my birthday or heads will roll!

Elaine - Thanks for playing the home game!

Sabrina - You’re too too kind. No, really. You should take a care antenna to me like…

Lorraine - the footnotes are Amanda’s running commentary on her own memoir. She’s a bit tangential and full of herself, if you haven’t noticed. With Battle of the Network Zombies you get the added irritation of an Appendix. Muhahaha!

  17. Comment by Heather Brewer — May 26, 2009 @ 9:30 am

your videos are great Mark. I finally got a copy of Happy Hour of the Damned and it’s on the top of my TBR stack.

I have added this link to my blog and I’ve added you to my Twitter account.

Fellow book club members met you at Conastogo in Oklahoma and said that your books are a must to read. Can’t wait to read your books.

  18. Comment by Heather Brewer — May 26, 2009 @ 9:30 am

oh yeah, I think I RSVP’d the other day and made it back here today.

  19. Comment by Jackie B — May 26, 2009 @ 9:31 am

    1. Both books, signed with Mark’s unique sense of art are sitting in my office. The other books don’t want to play with them. Something about crazy zombie bitches.
    3. Already a subscriber to the BBB newsletter.
    4. Voted (woot Nalini Singh!).
    5. Spread the zombie love on Facebook.
    6. Friended Mark on Myspace and Facebook back before Blue Drank was in style.
    8. Mark’s on my blogroll at http://avidafemmina.blogspot.com.

Welcome to Bitten By Books, Mark! I’m trying to do this before my boss gets out of her meeting…

I was lucky enough to attend the worldbuilding workshop you and Jaye put together at DARA this year (I still have nightmares about werechihuahuas) and I lost my notes. Somewhere along the way, they flew out the window or were stolen from my hotel room by a greedy aspiring author. Do you two ever plan on putting your wisdom online?

  20. Comment by Heather Brewer — May 26, 2009 @ 9:32 am

last one, I also voted in the poll. I voted for Lora Leigh’s Breeds. There are so many good series it’s hard to pick. I can’t believe JR Wards Black Dagger Brotherhood didn’t make the cut.

  21. Comment by Shell Bryce — May 26, 2009 @ 9:36 am

As for Memorial Day…. nothing to report…being Canadian we have Victoria Day or better known as May two-four. This year I vegged on a hammock all day and read Katie MacAlisters Sex and the Single Vampire…. Sorry nothing to dish as good dirt or fun stuff….

  22. Comment by Mark Henry — May 26, 2009 @ 9:39 am

Shell - I looove Kevin Smith! Did you see Zach and Miri?

Elie - Oh CRAP! Ass-a-fire. It’s in the dictionary (or at least mine).

Seri - Hey! I’d be so pleased if you would!

Heather - Thanks! Hope you like zombie bitches.

Hey Jackie - Nope. Though we might consider doing more workshops. Haven’t talked about it much since.

  23. Comment by Virginia Hendricks — May 26, 2009 @ 9:43 am

    Hey Mark!

Its always a pleasure to have you here at BBB! I wish I could comment on what I am sure is a hysterical vlog, but alas. the joys of being a working person who deals with corporate firewalls all day. I’ll just have to wait until tonite when I’m attempting to sew to check it out.

    Thanks for stopping by!

Kevin is a genius and I love him…. his tweets are soooo naughty too. I haven’t sat down and watched Zack and Miri. My son has the video I just haven’t found the time to watch…. maybe this weekend… I hear it is hilarious

  27. Comment by Zombie Joe — May 26, 2009 @ 10:09 am

For the question part of this “question and answer” shindig…

The zombie part I understand (obviously), but what drew you towards not only intelligent undead, but the very “Sex in the City” sort of feel to your stories? And probably more importantly, what tricks do you use to write believable female characters?

  28. Comment by T.M. Thomas — May 26, 2009 @ 10:12 am

“the rest of them wanted Twilight”

    oh, you’re good. and bad.

  29. Comment by Linda Ak — May 26, 2009 @ 10:18 am

    Funny vlog indeed :D
Makes me wanna make one too.
    And the book looks smashing.

  30. Comment by Mark Henry — May 26, 2009 @ 10:25 am

Diane - Maybe I do know you.

Zombie Joe - It’s the years as a psychotherapist, following the other years as an only child. I spent a LOT of time with women. My biggest trick is to write the aspects of women that I’m attracted to, beyond the physical. I’ve done a lot of observation and a lot of the dialogue is pretty common for my social group, so…

    Thanks Linda.

  31. Comment by Lorelei C. — May 26, 2009 @ 10:33 am

I too am being deprived of the awesomeness that is Mark Henry’s vlogging by the evil firewalls of the Federal government. Will fight my 10 year old for computer time tonight so I don’t feel so deprived.

  32. Comment by Cheryl McInnis — May 26, 2009 @ 10:37 am

Hey Mark! You are a great V-logger-if this writing gig doesn’t work out I’m sure Rachel will hire you on full-time just to keep us entertained-right Rachel? I added you on Facebook and I have a question….Are Amanda or any of the other characters in your books even a little bit based on your real-life friends and family?

  33. Comment by Beet — May 26, 2009 @ 10:52 am

    Hello Mark.

    Loved Roadtrip.

Would your proposed erotic reading feature a blue satin demi-bra? If so, I am THERE.

  36. Comment by Stacia Kane — May 26, 2009 @ 11:29 am

Oh, Mark. When will you stop name-dropping? I keep telling people I do NOT know you, and you keep pretending we’re pals. It’s embarrassing, seriously.

  37. Comment by Koren Cota — May 26, 2009 @ 11:33 am

Perverse come on’s and erotic readings Yay! I have to go to work and save my local library branch from the inundation of all the kiddies released from their yearly educational servitude, but I will be back. Before I go questions….Which of your character’s would you chose to live & deal with on an everyday basis?…..Did anyone catch any video of you dancing?….Give until you bleed from where?

    I LOVE your work

Also even with all the rugrats running around I am wearing heels to work today in honor of you….and my caffeine tank has been topped off….
Will be back as soon as humanly possible and hopefully by then this will have devolved past meaningful conversation and gotten to the fun meaty center…(everything I said makes sense to me)

I’m not able to watch the vlogs for the same reason as most–work, work, horrible work–so maybe you covered this already. How long do you see Amanda’s un-life going? Is there a time limit on how long it will take her to decompose?

  40. Comment by Cheryl M — May 26, 2009 @ 11:48 am

    I am subscribed to BBB
I already entered the kindle 2 contest

  41. Comment by Zombie Joe — May 26, 2009 @ 11:54 am

Options for the contest… (and one more question)

    1) No Kindle or Audiobook option? *sad zombie panda*
    2) I did already ask a question, but in seeing that it was literally 2 sentences and 6 months to getting Happy Hour of the Damned published, what would you suggest to someone in the position you were a month or two before that elevator ride?
    3) Subscription entered and confirmed.
    4) Voted even before I saw this option. The Kindle contest will need to wait for a video camera. ;)
    5) Spread the Word? How about these places…

    6)Be friends…
Well I did a submit in Facebook. I would do the others, but honestly I never use them. I am already following him on Twitter… maybe I will include a screen capture or something. ;)
    7) http://twitter.com/Zombie_Joe/status/1926477515
    8)Added to my LiveJournal… http://krewtroll.livejournal.com/
Figuring out where best to link it on Geek Like Me…

Still not sure how you post it on Shelfari and Goodreads. If I figure it out I’ll come back

Grrr at my hubby, I was so looking forward to watching Henry’s vlogs, but the hubs has to have the tv up full blast, drowning out the vlogs. Grr

What I seen I enjoyed. Henry is a riot! That just bumped up his books in my estimation. I like authors who have a sense of humor and stuff.

  43. Comment by MarnieColette — May 26, 2009 @ 12:32 pm

Mark - you are very funny and I love your VLOG…. has anyone ever told you that you have a phone sex voice… YOU DO! I can’t want for the erotic reading it should be fun to say the least.

So since you already wrote about a roadtrip with your characters I have another question for you…. which one would you let pick your outfit out for dinner with your favorite author?

As for my memorial day - it was hellish!!! I spent the day tortured surrounded by 2 sick adult babies who forced me to watch all day episodes of Clean House (I didn’t know that there were people like that out there and willing to be on tv)

    3) Subscribed already

Ok my question for Mark is, why did we not get to see any video of you dancing that’s something I would pay to see. Hey maybe it could be your side job. I’ll make sure to bring a roll of ones when I get to see you in person just in case.

I really enjoyed your vlog. You are hilarious. The dancing part was cool. wish we could have seen more of the robot dance.
I’ve been following you on Twitter for a while, you are really entertaining. You make me laugh often, not always a good thing when in a public place but who cares right.
I can’t wait to read your books. I just added you facebook can’t wait to see what’s next with you.
And I also agree with one of the readers that says you and kevin smith must have been seperated at birth.
And yes I will go out and buy the books to help pay for the allergy meds.
can’t wait for the erotic reading lol.
thanks again for the vlogs today.

I am so looking forward to Battle of the Network Zombies!!! I think I may have sympathy illness for you. Watching the second vlog kinda made my stomach ache. Feel better soon! It’s not as much fun to harass physically sick people.

  54. Comment by Ashley Fournier — May 26, 2009 @ 1:48 pm

Awwww… your sick I hope you feel better! Maybe you should drink some “Blue Drank!!” Ok, so that probably wont help but who knows maybe your snot will turn blue and honestly who can feel bad when their snot is blue?! If nothing else I’m sure that I would find it highly entertaining.

  56. Comment by Mark Henry — May 26, 2009 @ 1:59 pm

Hey y’all. Sorry for the longish break. It looks like my allergies were masking the flu. The achiness started a little before lunch. But I’m back and will be off and on the rest of the day and evening. Breaking for naps, of course.

Lorelei - I enjoy a little deprivation from time to time. Just don’t build it up too much, you’re bound to be let down.

Cheryl M - Oh yes. Amanda is more of an amalgam of my wife and me than I usually admit. Beware our Friday night dinners.

Beet - I’m thinking steamroller. Excruciatingly slow steamrollers are the most fun way to dispatch mistakes.

Ter, Heather O and Stace - You guys!

Koren - I’d have to say Amanda, she’s got the nicest place and furniture. There is no such video of me dancing publicly. I’m a private dancer, a dancer for money, do what you want me to do!

  57. Comment by Mark Henry — May 26, 2009 @ 2:08 pm

Zombie Joe - Advice–don’t censor yourself, read lots of really well written books in a variety of genres, make your reader feel like they’re there whether than telling them what it’s like, don’t be shy with the self pimpin’, take your inspiration from odd places (I don’t have any heros in the urban fantasy genre, just sayin’).

    Rachel - Thanks.

Marnie Collette - I love Clean House!!!

    Ashley!!!! - That’s all.

Carmen - I see you everywheres! If you hunt through my livejournal blog, you’ll eventually find a vlog of me responding to a dare by Lauren Dane, where I dance like one of Santigold’s back-up singers. But you’re going to have to work for that.

Qwill, MJ and Valerie - Tanks!

  58. Comment by Mark Henry — May 26, 2009 @ 2:10 pm

Elayne - I’m not sure how erotic the vlog will turn out, we’ll see.

Tanya - Thanks, can’t wait for people to read Battle.

Ashley - I’m pooping blue drank.

Hey Mark, did you ever know that you’re my hero? You’re everything I wish I could be. I could fly higher than an eagle, because you are the wind beneath my wings.

  61. Comment by Lisa H. — May 26, 2009 @ 2:57 pm

I spent Memorial Day collecting urinal cakes from local drinking establishments. I used them to decorate my cats litterbox with the Superman emblem since they always fly out of the box like Superman out of the phonebooth, tracking as much kitty litter as possible.

Mark - I follow you on twitter because I’m a dirty, voyeuristic whore and you make me laugh. Did you begin writing while you were employed as a psychotherapist? If so, how did you find time to write while working full time?

    Thanks!

  62. Comment by Heather C — May 26, 2009 @ 3:00 pm

Hi Mark!!! Thanks for being here. I hear ya on the need for allergy drugs. The vlogs were awesome…any good vidoes or gossip on Rachel. ;) I’m excited to read your books since they have 2 things that are just essential, sex and humor. Although, combined, it can be an issue…unless you’ve been with your partner for along time. :) I’m looking forward to an evening video full of surprises thanks to your drugs.

Mark: Hope you are feeling better and not so sewer drainy ASAP!

I already have Mark’s blog on my blogroll, have for some time, I also have League of Reluctant Adults blog on my blogroll.

I RSVPd the other day for this one. ‘Love’ Mark, so knew I’d make it here eventually.

  64. Comment by Becky — May 26, 2009 @ 3:06 pm

Thanks so much for being here Mark. Hope you’re feeling better soon and don’t find yourself in a puddle of random, disgusting body fluid(s).

I heard from a reliable source that you were defiling tote bags at RT. One of these years I will have to get there.

Anyhoo, what made you decide to go from helping people as a therapist to writing about dead fashionista bitches? Quite the leap there. Not that I’m complaining mind you….your books are fantabulous! I’ve already corrupted….erm….converted my baby brother with your books. (Now that I think about it, I think he still has my copy of Road Trip of The Damned.)

Thanks again for helping us celebrate our first birthday! Rachel rocks!!!

  65. Comment by Heather C — May 26, 2009 @ 3:12 pm

I also wanted to know if you participated in the hair dying extravaganza at the League. I couldn’t see any color in the video, but that doesn’t mean that you didn’t dye some hair that we can’t see. ;)

I have requested your friendship on FB and myspace, following you on Twitter. I retweeted the link and I am posting the link on my FB page.

Hi Mark! Just wanted to say I read and enjoyed Happy Hour of the Damned! You have a very wicked sense of humor, and seem like you could be quite vicious if we get on your bad side. So how does one stay on your good side?
I’m so sorry you’re under the weather. Get well soon!

  75. Comment by Silverstein — May 26, 2009 @ 4:31 pm

Woohoo, despite not sleeping since 3PM yesterday, I managed to make it to the event! (And I’m so freakin’ tired.) I do believe I RSVP’d for this event.

I bought Happy Hour ages ago but, sadly, it’s still sitting in my massive TBR mountain. :( I did, however, let a friend borrow it and she adored it, so I managed to spread a little Mark Henry love!

I wish I could say I did something interesting on Memorial Day, but aside from playing with Woosoo Vampire Elf head (http://i237.photobucket.com/albums/ff98/Sixverstein/dolls/sethhome3.png) I didn’t do much.

Loved the videos! Hope you feel better soon. :(

    Mark,

Now I remember why I love you so much! “Did I go too far? Nah” LOL! Thank goodness I couldn’t watch this at work. My co-workers think I’m nuts enough as it is! :)

Memorial Day. Hmmmm. No. I can’t say anything overtly strange weird or whatever happened. The most fun was watching my in-laws try to call a cat up on to the deck. And my stepmother in law brought Italian Love Cake without the Love. So it was just Italian Cake. It definitely cannot compete with your bathroom video!

Anyways, I hope people go out and buy this awesome book! I know I am anxiously awaiting Part 3!

(and you look awesome without your glasses. Have you considered contacts? -that’s just creepy stalkerish of me, isn’t it? lol)

    Thom - Wow. I figured.

Lisa - OMFG that is so fucking funny. It’s a week of urine here. My best friend found out his ex-boyfriend had a secret addiction…public urinal licking!!!!!!! No shit. And yes, I wrote a little while I was working but I’m crazy and when I finally decided to write for a living I tossed the job.

Heather C., Vickie B. - Thanks for coming on the ride.

Becky - Totally NOT a stretch from helping to scarring people. Social service fields breed cynicism and snark like cesspools. It’s true. Some of the most demented and dark humor you’ve ever heard comes out of there. It’s because we have to deal with the horrors of life and the only way you get through the ritual sexual abuse, broken babies and violence is to laugh at it.

  95. Comment by Koren Cota — May 26, 2009 @ 6:17 pm

Ok have escaped the valley of capering kids…actually I was asked to leave when I started telling Andrew Dice Clay nursery rhymes during storytime and telling people….”Yes, I love children…Broiled.”

I was hoping to come home(ish) to a Mark reading, but your health must come first. I have sent my anti-mucus(sp?)magicians your way hopefully they will help.

I spent my memorial days weekend up in Phoenix. Dinners, concerts, drinking and hotel rooms. Got into an altercation with Jack and Mrs. Sprat at a concert. Kept it from getting physical with witty banter and lack of morals. Told him “You are obviously into big girls(although I was nowhere near Mrs. Sprat’s league) so if you hit me I will accept it as foreplay but, you better be ready to do me right here right now.” That shut him up and had the missus dragging him off by the ear as fast as she could waddle.

    Anisa M - Thanks!

Mario - I’m saving it in a jar along with my pubes, when I get enough I’ll send it off to you. I know how you like that.

Lisa M. - Ain’t that the truth. But when zombies take over, they really take over.

Kimberly B. - People who buy Road Trip get a free pass to my good side.

Tiah - I’m not going to lie, when it’s zombies, you know it’s more gory and violent, but it’s also funny, so there’s a trade off.

I enjoyed the videos - very interesting in a “best viewed in dark corners” kind of way. :)

Yay for NO micro-penis and NO porn talk. I have your books and I love them but hearing you read makes it that much better.

btw my dogs seem to think your dogs are talking to them…maybe a secret plot?

I forgot to say how I spent my Memorial Weekend before—-I went to see Star Trek, which I really liked, but then the traffic was so bad I got stranded about ten or twelve blocks away from my apartment for 45 minutes! I would have walked home, but it was nigh impossible to cross the street, plus I had on heels. It was crazy!
I am also now following Mark on Twitter.
    Peace out!

    Hi Mark,

It’s always exciting to be able to see and hear an author you’ve only just read about. Thanks for the laughs!

Huge fan of your work Mark. Read both books in one sitting when Road Trip of the Living Dead came out. If hilarity was gold you would Fort Knox.

Thanks for coming by for the late night antics people! I’m wasted on the nyquil/dayquil combo. But had a great time as usual.

Hope I’m not too late to the party! Regardless, I sent you a friend request on FB, Mark and added your blog to my list at http://catemasters.blogspot.com/. Loved your web site! Your books sound like fun reads. Wishing you the best!

Awesome interview, Mark! And I loved the videoes!
Hmmm…my Memorial Day was pretty ordinary - the whole family got together for a cookout. The weirdest and most amazing thing that happened was everyone got along and there were no major fights!

I friended you on MySpace and Facebook, and joined your Yahoo group.
Now I’m on my way to put your link on my website.

    Blessings,
    Rhonda :-)

Great interview! I haven’t read your books yet, but I am looking forward to doing so.

I didn’t do anything special for Memorial Day…took my dog for a walk.

    I tweeted

Can’t watch the vlogs but if they’re like your blog, I’m really missing out. Ah, life without DSL is a drag. Snagged a copy of Happy Hour and it’s climbing up my TBR pile. Really!
