Zombie Jack by Samantha Winston

Remember the movie “My Boyfriend’s Back” where this guy is hopelessly in love with a girl, dies, and then comes back to life as a zombie still hoping to win her over? Yeah, it wasn’t that great or that memorable of a movie honestly…BUT Zombie Jack is not only another kettle of fish, with a different tale altogether, Zombie Jack’s story is actually quite good and much more memorable. Then what is with the reference to the B movie made in the early ’90s? Well, because Jack is back and someone is so gonna get in trouble.

Jack Severn was dead. Technically, he still is. Yet now he is walking the earth again, just this time without a heart. And somehow he finds his way back to the exact place he was murdered where he is given a job on the spot. The joint used to be a disco and now it has been turned into a strip club featuring Jack as the main attraction. Jack only has one concern, and it isn’t even the fact that he’s a zombie (he looks alive) - just don‘t listen for a pulse. Or even that he has to get naked (he’s not shy). It’s just that when strained, his arm sometimes has a habit of falling off. Call it a side effect of being a dead and walking zombie.

Jack died almost a year ago and Brianna Henley has not been able to get over it. They were just dancing and having a good time one minute and the next minute, Jack is dead, blood leaking from the gaping hole in his chest where his heart was beating but a second ago. His heart had been taken by the mysterious Heart Taker who finds victims and kills them without anyone ever seeing him, even witnesses to the scene of the crime itself.

But now Jack’s alive (sort of) and he is even working as a stripper at the same place he was murdered. Brianna needs to find a way to help Jack figure out how on earth he’s alive again (sort of) and why, so that she can figure out how feels about her boyfriend coming back from the dead and being back in her life.

Truthfully, this book was entertaining and a breath of fresh air. It does give a new perspective and insight to zombies instead of the clichéd brain eating, rotting flesh corpses that are in mainstream media. It was a fun story, but not only that, it had way more elements to it than a mere summary could mention. Zombie Jack has pretty much got it made in his story…well except for that arm business, but you get my meaning.

I’ve read Zombie Jack and it’s a hoot! Samantha Winston hit it out of the ballpark with this one. I’ve read almost all of her stuff and Zombie Jack has a special place in my heart. Love it! Her YA stuff is really awesome too.
