Starting with the striking poem “Awaken” by Brian Lewis, this enchanting vampire story takes off at a run and doesn’t slow down until then end.

Abby Douglas is a waitress in The Drummer, a bar in Savannah, Georgia. She is also a singer and has no memory of her life before she was found on the side of the road near the bar. When she received an odd Tarot card postmarked from El Dorado Springs, Colorado, she wonders if someone there might have the answers she is looking for. Caleb Barrett is a vampire, and while traveling through town, he stops in The Drummer and catches Abby’s act. He is instantly smitten with her and is determined to figure out who she is and why she has such a dramatic effect on her…that is, if he can protect her from his cousin Russell.

“Awaken” is a fantastic read. Short but not too short, this story is packed with details, action and a storyline that just does not slow down. I am looking forward to reading more in the Vampire Oracle series and seeing just where things go in the long run. I have a feeling it is going to be one wild ride.
