Dark Lover by J. R. Ward

*****

Beth knows that things are changing. She has never found sexual satisfaction. She is always hungry. She tries to ignore the issues as she struggles to continue her job as a journalist. But sometimes life throws you a curve you would never have expected…

Wrath turns down his long time friend Darius when he asks Wrath to help his part human daughter go through her change. But when something terrible happens to Darius, he feels as though he has no choice in following through with the request. But this part human female brings out something unexpected in the full blooded warrior.

Wrath is the last full blooded male of the Brotherhood; he knows that his friend’s daughter’s chance of surviving the change is better with him and his blood. But when she brings out feelings he never expected, complications arise. What will he do to keep this female that has the potential to complete him? Or will he turn away from his feelings for her and try to continue on as before, alone?

Dark Lover is the first book in the Black Dagger Brotherhood series, and boy does it drag you in! The action starts and just does not stop with this book. I loved Beth and her struggle to understand just what heritage and gift her father left to her. And Wrath’s struggle with his emotions seems so real that I felt (and fell) for him completely. The characters in this book just come alive in the imagination and have you running to grab the next book in the series. I fully and highly recommend this series for anyone who is ready to have their imagination just blown completely wide open and taken over. A definite 5 Tombstones for J. R. Ward and the beginning of the Black Dagger Brotherhood series!

Right now, I am in the middle of the 4th book in this series and I have to say that this first one is still my favorite. I like both Wrath and Beth as the leads (and I am sorry we don’t get to see much of them in later books), the introduction to this unique vampire world is fascinating and action flows at a good pace.

This is the only book in the series I’ve read so far and I love it! The way they talk is hilarious, and the comraderie between the Brothers is heartwarming.
