The Accidental Demon Slayer by Angie Fox
Lizzie Brown gets lots of surprise presents for her 30th birthday. She discovers her real grandmother, whom she has never met before because she was adopted, is a tattooed, Harley-riding witch. Instead of sharing the family info Lizzie had hoped for, Grandma delivers the news that Lizzie is now the Exalted Demon Slayer of Dalea. Then, a nasty little demon pops up on her toilet and her beloved dog Pirate develops the gift of gab. After a sample of Grandma’s strange magic and a surprising glimpse of her own new talents, Lizzie knows she needs to learn more than family history from Grandma.
Wanting her Red Hat biker coven to help train Lizzie, Grandma roars off to their hideout with Lizzie and Pirate aboard the hog. When the trio is ambushed by imps, Dimitri Kallinikos, a shapeshifting griffin, steps in to serve as Lizzie’s protector. Shortly after their arrival, demonic mists drift from the coven’s biker bar and there is no sign of Grandma or Pirate. That is when Lizzie knows she needs Dimitri’s help and willingly agrees to his price.
In the first half, Lizzie is upstaged by the witches and their crazy antics. The old ladies, plus a wheel-chaired gent, are an absolute hoot. Pirate, the big-hearted little fur ball, delivers the best lines ever spoken by a Jack Russell terrier. Then, as Dimitri teaches her to use her demon slayer powers, and holds a hot session between the sheets, Lizzie starts to come into her own and learns not only how to fight back but how to trust in herself.
This story is full of non-stop action as Lizzie runs into black souls, curses, spells, demons, dragons, imps, werewolves, and the second layer of hell. There are some grisly parts, but even those are written with humor. Ms. Fox uses every scene to give insight into either Lizzie or Dimitri, sometimes both. And just when I think I have things figured out, she sneaks in a creative little twist that proves me wrong. Lizzie and Dimitri’s growing attraction is on the line when they must choose between each other or family. So, how does Lizzie choose? And what does Dimitri decide? The Accidental Demon Slayer just hit the stores, so grab a copy to find out.

This book sounds hilarious! I can not wait to read it and really get to know Lizzie and Pirate. Thanks for this review. I love that when I start reading this book I can expect some crazy twists and turns that will keep me guessing.

I hope that biker grandma does share some family history with Lizzie. Maybe that history contains the story of how she became the Exalted Demon Slayer of Dalea? Or perhaps that is for a later book! I love that a dog (especially a Jack Russell) has a part in this book. They are usually very curious creatures so I can imagine Pirate will get into lots of trouble.
WOW, this book is right up my alley!! I love how creative the author is with a talking dog and a demon slayer! Now, this is something I can stick my nose in and read all night long until I reach the very end of the book. Bikers, witches, demons, a talking dog and a handsome, tall, dark, studly guy…what else could you need…except chocolate! lol…AWESOME interview.
Hmm, sounds a fair bit sillier than my usual read, but good fun and I admit to being intruiged.
Those biker witches sure sounds like a hoot
I am so I wold love the book just for them.
And getting a big surprise like that, would sure like to read how she took it.
Lizzie is great, she definitely has an expanded vocab from teaching preschooler. And I totally dig the Protector.
The concept, idea for this book is Fabulous! A demon slayer, harley riding witch mixed in with some serious paranormal! Wow, it is loaded non stop laughs and action! Definetly my kinda book! Looking forward to many more and when is Grandma gonna give us more answers!! lol
I love dogs and think it rocks you added this element as well, they add a different layer all together and you end up with some side splitting funniness!
Best of luck to Angie and many more books!!
I have a lot in common with Lizzies Grandma because I’m a Grandma too. OK I’m not tattooed and I don’t ride a Harley but I’ve occasionally be accused of being a witch (I think they said Witch anyway).
