Book Release Party and Contest with Author Angie Fox!

Posted under Contests, Guest Bloggers by Site Hostess on Thursday 30 April 2009 at 8:38 am
*****

When I set out to be a writer, I never imagined I’d be riding with Harley biker gangs, winding my way through the tunnels underneath Hoover Dam or rescuing an armadillo. But in the end, all of the (ahem) interesting adventures mean one thing – a new book! The Dangerous Book for Demon Slayers is officially out now!!!

In it, Lizzie and the biker witches head to Las Vegas to take out a super sexy succubus who has her eye on world domination – and worse – Lizzie’s man.

It’s exciting to have a new book out and as I was telling Rachel what a crazy year it’s been, she challenged me to narrow the year down to the ten most interesting moments. So here it goes…

10. Attending a Harley biker rally and trying to explain to the bikers that I needed to learn how to ride so that I could write a romance novel.

9. Heading down into the old maze of inspection tunnels deep inside Hoover Dam with a smart aleck engineer who would watch for the moment when I was really spooked and pick that time to turn out the lights.

8. Informing the Harley bikers that I not only needed to ride, I needed to figure out how to get a dog on a bike. Can you picture Bull Dogs and Pomeranians in motorcycle glasses? Read about it here.

7. Hitting the New York Times bestseller list with The Accidental Demon Slayer, prompting me to utter the words “Get out!” over and over to my agent before making her email me to make sure I wasn’t phone hallucinating.

6. Being told by a fancy schmance independent bookstore that they did not, and would never stock my books because paranormal romance does not sell – especially a romance about a demon slayer and a gang of witches.

5. The time a gang of Harley riders showed up for my Barnes & Noble signing. Hmm…perhaps the fancy schmance independent bookstore was just avoiding trouble.

4. Watching four Harley riders wander off to the romance section to see my books, “in the wild.” They met an awesome customer who started giving them recommendations, resulting in several rough looking guys buying romance “for their wives and girlfriends,” even though I’m 99.9% sure Stryker, who bought several Ellora’s Cave titles, lives alone with his dog.

3. Visiting a dude ranch that, for some unknown reason, housed a boar, several very old chickens and an armadillo with an escape complex. Ever chased an armadillo? I have.

2. The publication of my first book, The Accidental Demon Slayer I don’t think it’s a coincidence that hell actually freezes over towards the end of the book.

1. The publication of my second book, The Dangerous Book for Demon Slayers! This one is darker than the first. More intense. I can’t wait for everyone to read it.

And you know what? To help you along, I’m giving away two different sets of prizes. The first uber mega happy prize is a role in my next book. No kidding. I’ll name a character after you in the next Demon Slayer book. All you have to do is buy a copy of The Dangerous Book for Demon Slayers and you’re entered. You MUST use this link below:

What a fab life - they’ll be a new books series out soon - the Angie Fox series, in which a crazy gal get’s up to no good and meets some wicked characters…all in the name of writing :o) Kudos!

Well - to enter the contest, here’s my quiz results!

    I’m apparently known as
Spaghetti Neck Stella Fancy Pants, which is funny because I’m a big lover of Spaghetti ‘hoops’ and the pants I’m wearing now - they’re quite fancy.

SNSFP is also 70% Demon Slayer - so, all you demons out there…watch out!

Rachel, thanks for another cool authorview!

    Hi Rachel, Hi Angie!

Hehe, I’m a biker’s brat (or should I say daughter) do I’m kinda use to being around them. There’s quite nothing like your father comes to pick you up at work (Mikey D’s) with his 69 white Sportster called Ghost.

My dad use to take a Black Lab pup with him on rides until she got too big for his shirt pocket or sit in his Harley jacket. But I’m sure they have something rigged for dogs.

Hehe, now I would absolutely LOVE to see bikers in a book store hanging around the romance section! That’s when you take pictures!

Using my real name my biker witch name is: Skullcap Sue No Brakes
Using my pen name my biker witch name is: Candy Knickers Pothole Jumper
    You are 74% demon slayer.

Hi everybody! It’s great to be here. Thanks for playing. I have to tell you how amused I am, Beet, at Pirate Bobbie Bob’s name. From how you describe him, I’m sure he and Pirate would get along famously. :)

About eight bikers showed up at the signing that I mentioned above. It was great.

I’m not sure if they believed I was writing a book or not when I first met them. They’re nice guys. And they could tease me because I showed up at the first biker rally in a pink shirt. Evidently, real bikers don’t wear pink. So having something to razz me about helped me fit into the group - or perhaps they were just humoring me.

    [Reply]

  23. Comment by Angie Fox — April 30, 2009 @ 11:56 am

Hi Virginia - I haven’t bought a Harley yet. Other than telling embarrassing stories about each other, one of the favorite activities of the bikers I’ve met is that they like to tell crash stories.

These usually involve bikes pinning people to the ground, various body parts being burned and all kinds of things that make me cringe. It’s almost like a contest - see who can make Angie go pale the fastest. Anyhow, I’m not sure I trust myself alone on a Harley. Not yet. I’ll leave that up to the demon slayers.

Hi Raonaid! So you have personal experience with the biker dogs. That was another thing I had to figure out for these books - how to get a Jack Russell onto a motorcycle. Turns out there is an entire motorcycle/biker club dedicated to riding with dogs. These bikers build specialized sidecars, dog seats, harnesses. There’s a link to my research on biker dogs in question 8 above.

The dog in the book, Pirate, rides in a tricked out harness. These dogs go crazy. They love riding. As Pirate says, it’s like having your whole body out the window.

LOL Thanks, Linda P. The kicker is that these rough, tough guys are now so proud of me. Sure, they gave me a hard time at first (it’s part of the getting to know you process), but these are some of the most supportive guys you’ll ever meet. And they’re funny because they buy the books and then refuse to lend out their copies. They make their friends buy their own. I keep telling them it’s okay - lend it out. Learn to share, for goodness sake. But nope. Stubborn cusses. And I say that with much affection. ;)

Hi Lyda - what would I do if I couldn’t be a writer? I’d probably work in a bookstore or at a library. I love books. In fact, I’ve always had this secret wish to own my own bookstore. That would be a neat goal to work towards. Of course it would have to be the kind of store with no customers and a hot man (or team of hot guys) to clean and keep the place in shape. That way, I could read and talk books with customers all day.

  35. Comment by Angie Fox — April 30, 2009 @ 12:17 pm

Ohhh…and an endless supply of chocolate.

So to summarize: I’d own a bookstore where hot men do all the work and I get to read all day and chat with customers about books while we all eat chocolate. Bliss.

Hi Angie!!! Thanks for stopping by. I’m jealous of your adventure list. As a nerdy engineer, walking inside the guts of the Hoover Dam would be awesome!!! Plus, I work with quite a few Harley guys, and I really want to go for a ride on one of the bikes. I’ve never been on a motorcycle. I have 2 pups, and I can totally picture them with little goggles sitting my sidecar. Anyway, I do have a writing question for you. Why do you think there are not many urban fantasy/romance books with f/f relationships? I figure I’ll just let you answer for the whole industry. :) Thanks!!!

    That’s awesome Angie!

My sister and I want to own our own bookstore too as well as a tea house.

So for me, it would be chocolate covered strawberries and then to be surrounded by books. Can’t do the all handsome man team though lol, my hubs might get jealous. *^_^*

Okay ladies and germs (cause I know germs show up to these things occasionally) Who amongst you doesn’t want a CHARACTER ROLL in Angie’s next book which is BOUND to be another NY Times Best Seller?

All you have to do is buy the new book. You can even buy it at your local bookstore come home and SCAN the receipt and mail it to me.

Am I going to be the winner? Don’t make me be the winner, cause I may have to do something evil in the book. LOL

Well??? Lets make Angie’s dream of hitting NY Times AGAIN with The Dangerous Book for Demon Slayers so The Accidental Demon Slayer won’t be lonely without it’s sibling on the shelf!

I dare you! oohhhh I double hellhoud DOG dare you. :)

LOL Heather - because, yes, I feel qualified to answer for the whole industry. Truth be told, I’m not sure. I write m/f because that’s what I have experience with and because there is a certain joy in watching men and women try to understand each other. Maybe someone who has been in the business longer could answer better.

Hi, Angie! I loved your first book and will be heading out tonight to get the second! Congrats on hitting the NYT, too! How exciting. And, as a former motorcycle rider myself (had to sell it when I got pregnant), make sure when/if you do buy your own bike, you can lay it down and pick it up without help. ;)

I’m a measly 49% demon slayer…and my Witch name is Candy Knickers Hard Rider. LOL! All I’m picturing is a pair of pants made from those old, multi-colored candy necklaces, which would definitely make for a hard ride. :D

Congrats again, Angie, and may all your books hit the NYT!

Pirate Bobby Bob is 99% fearless (only scared of my grandma) he chases the vacuum, the broom, climb everything even people, has knocked himself out by running head first into the stove. I think I want to try the riding lawn mower with him.

Pirate the dog thinks your Pirate is quite brave for chasing the vacuum and that kills me that he knocked himself out by running into the stove. My old dog, Beau, (a lot of Pirate is based on him) used to bark at himself in the stove, but he never tried to go see the other dog. Too funny!

Hi Shell, I’m an internet girl, myself. It’s fun and a lot more interactive.

My favorite place to meet readers is anywhere where we can talk - booksignings, book clubs, library events - I just did an event at the St. Louis Public Library that was like speed dating. They had several tables of readers and each of us authors would sit down and chat for 10 minutes, then they’d call time and we’d meet another grop. It was really neat.
