*****

Imagine one night of passion so deep that it stays with you for the next ten years. Then, he comes back into your life after ten years and says you are being punished for tempting him and would have to work off your eternal punishment. Sounds a little bit crazy right?

That’s what Eve thought when Alec Cain comes waltzing back into her life. She finds out that she has become a part of the oldest sibling rivalry in history. After she has been marked by Alec Cain’s brother, Reed Abel, Eve is assigned to fight demons with Alec as her mentor and Reed as her handler. Not exactly the life she would have picked for herself, but she does not have much choice, she has to adapt or find herself any easy target for the forces of evil. Will she be able to survive?

I give Eve of Darkness 5 tombstones. S.J. Day’s take on the whole Cain and Abel story is utterly captivating. I found Eve of Darkness to be a titillating yet exciting read. I expected Eve of Darkness to be more urban fantasy, but I found out I was wrong. There is a nice blend of action and romance throughout the story. The chemistry between Eve and the brothers is very steamy and ripe with jealousy and tension between the brothers. I think Ms. Day captures the sibling rivalry between Cain and Abel in a intriguing and distinctive way.

I am eagerly looking forward to the next book in the series, Eve of Destruction which is due out in June. I will be excited to see how the story expands as Eve grows into her position as a Mark and how the relationships she has with each of the brothers develops further. If you like a little bit of biblical history mixed in with your urban fantasy, then Eve of Darkness is a book that you want to add to your library.

Book Excerpt:“Cursed by God, hunted by demons, desired by Cain and Abel… All in a day’s work.

For Evangeline Hollis, a long-ago fling with a bad boy from the wrong side of the tracks just became a disaster of biblical proportions. One night with a leather-clad man of mystery has led to a divine punishment: the Mark of Cain.

Thrust into a world where sinners are drafted to kill demons, Eve knows her learning curve must be short. A longtime agnostic, she begrudgingly maneuvers through a celestial bureaucracy where she is a valuable but ill-treated pawn. She’s also become the latest point of contention in the oldest case of sibling rivalry in history…

But she’ll worry about all that later. Right now she’s more concerned with learning to kill while staying alive. And saving the soul she’d never quite believed she had.”

Payday is just two days away! This will definitely be on my list of buys.

I’m a fan of religion-based fiction because I like to see how the author plays with the mythos and how its twisted into something new. Can’t wait to try this one!
