Even when I was ready to strangle Creed for being a jerk at one point, I was so involved with his character that I had to keep reading to see if he failed as spectacularly as I thought he might. Of course, O’Shea is a master of redemption so he does not fail.

Maia also has to grow as well as let the relationship between she and her sister, Ryne, mature. They’ve been stuck in a certain phase where she continually tries to be the caretaker. It’s an interesting side journey as the two sisters learn to interact more on an adult level.

Is Creed falling to dark magic? Can Maia survive as an outsider? Will the demon who stalks both of them and Ryne be vanquished?
