Bad to the Bone by Jeri Smith-Ready
Ciara Griffin runs one of the hottest radio stations in town. WVMP employs a staff of vampire DJs who have attracted some unwanted attention. A fanatical group starts blocking the station’s signal and replacing it with a preacher spewing hellfire and damnation whenever the station plays a song by a female singer or the station’s sole female DJ, Regina, is on. Is this group anti-vampire or anti-women? Ciara is determined to find out just what their agenda is. With the help of newbie vampire/former P.I. Travis, Ciara traces the attacks back to a group known as the Fortress.
Ciara has more to deal with than just fanatical radio pirates, though. Evicted from her apartment, she moves in temporarily with her boss, David. Her boyfriend, Shane, wants her to move in with him, but Ciara is having a hard time committing. Is it because she knows a future with Shane is full of the complications that loving a vampire brings, or could it be the feelings she is having for her very human boss, David? Throw in caring for her newly acquired vampire dog, receiving disturbing messages from her con-artist father and discovering that her blood somehow has the power to heal vampires and you have a typical day in the life of Ciara.
Jeri Smith-Ready does not disappoint in this sequel to her critically acclaimed Wicked Game. Ciara continues to delight as that heroine who struggles with who she was and who she wants to be. Ms. Smith-Ready reveals brief glimpses into the past of her characters but only gives you just enough to whet your appetite and leave you wanting more. Bad to the Bone
is filled with edge-of-your-seat suspense, hot love scenes and plot twists that you never see coming. Jeri Smith-Ready has scored another hit, and I will gladly stay tuned for more from the staff at WVMP.
Book Excerpt: “TURN ON. TUNE IN. DROP DEAD.
If you’re just joining us, welcome to radio station WVMP, “The Lifeblood of Rock’n'Roll.” Con-artist-turned-station-owner Ciara Griffin manages an on-air staff of off-the-wall DJs — including her new boyfriend Shane McAllister — who really sink their teeth into the music of their “Life Time” (the era in which they became vampires). It’s Ciara’s job to keep the undead rocking, the ratings rolling, and the fan base alive — without missing a beat.
For Halloween, WVMP is throwing a bash sure to raise the dead. They’ve got cool tunes, hot costumes, killer cocktails — what could go wrong? Well, for starters, a religious firebrand ranting against the evils of the occult preempts the station’s midnight broadcast. Then, when Ciara tracks down the illegal transmission, the broadcast tower is guarded by what appears to be…a canine vampire? And behind it all is a group of self-righteous radicals who think vampires suck (and are willing to stake their lives on it).
Now Ciara must protect the station while struggling with her own murky relationship issues, her best friend’s unlikely romance with a fledgling vampire, and the nature of her mysterious anti-holy powers. To make it to New Year’s in one piece, she’ll need to learn a few new tricks….”

I adored Wicked Game on about 16 1/2 different levels (ok, I’m estimating). It’s something new and different for vamps. I love the music. I’m so excited about the sequel!

A vamp dog??? That’s a new one for me, and I am a huge animal lover, so that alone peaks my interest. After reading about part 1 of the series, I am definitely interested in reading the series. Plus, 5 tombstones is a good start. Love triangles…vamps…vamp dogs…sounds great!!!
