Interview:

Hi Linda!

Welcome to Bitten by Books, we are excited to have you here today!

I would like to thank you taking the time to join us for the question and answer session with our readers. It has been very interesting to get to know more about you and what makes you tick as a writer! Readers, if you haven’t done so already please stop by and get your copy of 50 Ways to Hex Your Lover, it is one of the funniest reads of the year!

BBB: What do you find the most challenging aspect of writing?

LW: That all the pieces can fit together. That you take these characters and throw them into a setting, sometimes a totally unfamiliar one, and you manage to take the characters, their emotions and actions and actually have it make sense. At least, you hope it does. I used to say I do the “what if” in my writing, but there are times when I feel as if it’s my characters saying “do this”. The challenge is if I don’t do what they say it always comes out wrong and they let me know it.

BBB: What is the most rewarding aspect of writing for you?

LW: When a reader tells me how much they enjoyed my book.

BBB: What made you decide to start writing or decide you wanted to become an author?

LW: I’ve always wanted to write. I was writing stories even when I was little. I was just lucky to have achieved my dream. But I started writing romance after reading a bunch of Harlequin Presents and saying I could that. My husband said “shut up and do it.”

BBB: What do you feel are the benefits of the new electronic readers such as Kindle to the environment?

LW: It looks like Kindle is doing great and you have to admit it’s great to carry a ton of books in one container. And it seems some are more prone to buy even more books that way.

BBB: What impact do electronic readers create on the bottom line for Authors in the end? Do you feel they have a negative impact or positive, or no impact at all that you can see?

LW: I haven’t seen any impact. You’ll always have readers who prefer print and others who will read e-books only but many are reading both.

BBB: Your book 50 Ways to Hex Your Lover that released in March by from Sourcebooks is based on a new series featuring Jasmine “Jazz” Tremaine a 700 year old witch. Is there a reason you decided to go
with a witchy type character for the protagonist in this series?

LW: There are days I’m convinced that Jazz created herself. I knew I wanted a witch and the idea of one who’d been expelled from the Witches Academy and banished for 100 years and allowed to return if she behaved, but 700 years later she’s still out there. Just goes to show it’s not easy to behave.

BBB: Who are fluff and puff and do they get to play a major part in your next book Hex Appeal that is coming out this coming November?

LW: Fluff and Puff are my totally mischievous magick bunny slippers. They look like these furry sweet bunny slippers until you notice their razor sharp teeth. How Jazz came to have them is revealed in Hex Appeal, but they’ve also blogged about it in their MySpace Blog. http://www.myspace.com/magickbunnyslippers. And yes, they do have a large part in Hex Appeal, because they get into major trouble that Jazz has to work on getting them out of.

BBB: Are you working on any other books or series with different paranormal creatures in the works outside of the current series?

LW: I’m playing with a YA urban fantasy, so we’ll see!

BBB: What’s next in the Jazz Tremaine series? Will there be more books?

LW: My editor has asked for another Jazz book, but I also have all the other witches to write. Her class held 13 witches, so it will keep me busy.

BBB: What genre would you classify 50 Ways to Hex Your Lover? Urban
Fantasy, Horror, Paranormal a mixture?

LW: I call it witch lit.

BBB: What is your favorite time of day to write?

LW: My brain seems to be more active in the afternoons and I actually write faster then. I have no idea why.

BBB: What is your favorite paranormal book of all time?

LW: Oh wow! There’s so many out there and written by friends, but I will say that one book that totally caught me up in paranormal is a time travel, Journey to Yesterday by June Lund Shiplett. It’s a wonderful book and some years later she wrote a sequel, Return to Yesterday. That book had me hooked. It’s about a woman who drives into a swimming pool in 1979 and comes up in a water hole in the 1800s.

BBB: If you could be any paranormal creature, what would it be and why?

LW: Hm, that’s a toughie. I think a shapeshifter could be fun.

BBB: Where do you find your inspiration when writing? Do you have somebody who inspires you?

LW: Inspiration is everywhere. The funny thing is a lot of ideas pop up when I’m running errands. It seems my SUV, named Jazz, is my inspiration. Also sometimes something in a movie will catch my eye and give me an idea.

BBB: When is your next scheduled book signing?

LW: I don’t have one right now.

BBB: How true are the rumors that you are an expert in witchcraft?

LW: LOL! My first response would be “no, but I used to play one on TV.” I have my very own experts, Yasmine Galenorn and Lisa Di Croll, who happily answer questions I have and I have Yasmine’s non-fiction books that helps a lot. Although, I’ve been told when I get ticked off I start to mutter rhymes under my breath. Hm…

BBB: Who is your favorite secondary character in your series?

LW: That’s tricky because it’s a toss up between Fluff and Puff and Irma, the cranky ghost that haunts Jazz’s T-Bird. And if you want to get a better idea of Irma watch Vicki Lawrence in Mama’s Family. She was my inspiration. But Fluff and Puff are so real to me I keep a close eye on my own bunny slippers!

BBB: What did you do before you became a writer? Do you write full time?

LW: I’ve been writing full time since 1980. Before that, I worked as a corporate recruiter for a personnel agency.

BBB: What is your favorite meal?

LW: Actually, we have a fantastic place in town called Chuys that offers up mesquite bbq and I’m hooked on their tri-tip sandwiches.

BBB: Do you have any pearls of wisdom you would like to share with our readers here today?

LW: It’s thanks to the readers that I’m still here. I know I’m not the only author who thanks you all for sticking with us.

    Can’t wait for Hex Appeal
    My questions are
    1. Are we going to find out which witch lit did the curse that got them all kicked out?

    2. Where can I get my own Puff and Fluff for my personal home security needs?

  2. Comment by TarotByArwen — July 7, 2008 @ 8:45 am

What a great interview! Linda, I love the ghost as Mama! That’s one of my favorite characters bar none on television. Vicki Lawrence was working on comedic genius there. Good luck on the writing! Sounds like you are on a solid roll!

Hmm a question.. OK! I’ve got one.

How do your characters view magic? Black/White/Grey or combination? :)

  3. Comment by Yasmine — July 7, 2008 @ 9:02 am

Hey! Linda, great interview (don’t enter me for any contest, I know the author *grins*).

I’ve got a question: Will Jazz, in future books, have other great footwear besides Fluff, Puff and…no spoilers here but you know who.

    Yasmine

  4. Comment by Linda Wisdom — July 7, 2008 @ 9:11 am

    Hi Ruth!

I always thought the last witch book would deal with the one who cast the curse. Things may change, but her story is partially in my head.

I have two sets of bunny slippers, one scuff a friend gave me for Christmas, and a pair of fuzzy bunny spa flip flops. There’s days I’m positive they get into mischief when I’m not around.

    Linda

  5. Comment by Linda Wisdom — July 7, 2008 @ 9:12 am

    Hi Arwen!

They know there’s black magic out there, but they’re smart enough to not use it even if they have to battle it sometimes. They really seem to view all of it, respect the good, and fear and despise the bad.

    Linda

  6. Comment by Linda Wisdom — July 7, 2008 @ 9:14 am

    Hi Yaz!!!!

She’s tweaking everyone since she’s read Hex Appeal ahead of time.

And yes, Jazz will have some interesting footwear coming up. Just as all the witches will have some fun accessories and ‘pets’.

    Linda

  7. Comment by Nancy Haddock — July 7, 2008 @ 9:21 am

    Rachel and Linda, great interview!

I ADORED 50 WAYS TO HEX YOUR LOVER, and was so excited about getting HEX APPEAL, I thought it was already out and went searching for it. :)

I love Jazz, but Irma totally cracked me up. Sooo, Linda, will Irma stick around? What about her dog?

I don’t need to be entered in the contest, but I sure have enjoyed seeing Linda today! (Been looking forward to this for more than a week!)

  8. Comment by Rachel — July 7, 2008 @ 9:21 am

    Hey Linda!

Thanks so much for being here today!!

I think that Fluff and Puff will become bigger and bigger cult icons for your series as time goes on. What does an author do if a secondary inanimate character takes off like that with the readers?

    Rachel :)

  9. Comment by Linda Wisdom — July 7, 2008 @ 9:23 am

    Hi Nancy!

Thanks for the praise for 50 Ways!

I’m afraid you have to wait until November for Hex Appeal.

    I think Irma wouldn’t be happy without being there to harrass, uh advise, Jazz. :}

    Linda

  10. Comment by Linda Wisdom — July 7, 2008 @ 9:25 am

    Hey Rachel!

I was amazed Fluff and Puff became so popular, but the slippers weren’t surprised. What can I say? They seem very real to me. That’s why I gave them their own MySpace. http://www.myspace.com/magickbunnyslippers

I think that’s why I’ve also written short stories about them and they’re posted in their blog at MySpace.

    Linda

  11. Comment by Amberkatze — July 7, 2008 @ 9:37 am

    Hi Linda!

How did the idea for the slippers actually start???

Are any your characters based on anyone you know in real life?

I am already signed up for the newsletter and I will try and remember to post a link on my blog later when I have more time!

  12. Comment by Cheryl Brooks — July 7, 2008 @ 9:46 am

    Hey, Linda!
Here I am, dropping by! Great interview!
How do you deal with being asked to rewrite your manuscripts? Or does that ever happen to you?
    Cheryl

  13. Comment by Linda Wisdom — July 7, 2008 @ 9:48 am

    Hi Amberkatze!

When I first pictured Jazz in my mind I saw what you might say is a vision of her that might be on a book cover. I saw her stirring a cauldron, and the bunny slippers on her feet looking all sweet and furry until you noticed they have razor sharp teeth. They’re not fierce like the Monty Python man killer bunny slippers, more sweet faced, but they have that streak of mischief and they show no fear. You think of bunny slippers as comforting. I saw them as wicked little critters.

I think some of the characters are based on people I’ve known or perhaps a mixture of several. I’ve been told that parts of Jazz is me, which sounds a bit scary!

    Linda

  14. Comment by Virginia — July 7, 2008 @ 10:04 am

    Hi Linda!

What a wonderful interview. I can’t wait to check out Fluff and Puff’s myspace tonite! :)

My question is this. I’ve noticed that a lot of authors have started playing around with the YA genre after writing a book geared towards adults. So I’m curious what the fascination with the YA urban fantasy genre is and why a lot of authors seem to be working on a novel for YA?

  15. Comment by Ashley Renee — July 7, 2008 @ 10:25 am

    Great Interview!
    Hey Linda! =)
Yaz, couldn’t help teasing could you? LOL.

Question: Do you see Nick sticking around for awhile this time? Or will Jazz end up flying fire balls at his head and getting locked up again? Or is this question impossible to answer without spoiling?

Does that count as 3 questions? Oh no thats 4! TEHE, Ok, Im putting my coffee down and I’m done now. LOL.

  16. Comment by Sarai — July 7, 2008 @ 10:40 am

    Hey Linda,
    My questions are:
Do you ever find yourself learning life lessons from your characters?
    and
Do Fluff and Puff ever meet their matches? as in evil fox slippers that are suddenly dying of love for the devious duo or something like that… =P
Thanks for doing this interview =)

  17. Comment by Mario — July 7, 2008 @ 10:54 am

    Linda,

Great interview. Any ideas for supernatural tri-tip sandwiches?

As a guy, how do I keep the hex away?

  18. Comment by Linda Wisdom — July 7, 2008 @ 11:10 am

    Virginia,

YA urban fantasy has gotten hot. Maybe I’m wrong, but it seems Harry Potter really started it going and even the popularity of the Buffy books along with other series that’s been out for awhile.

I have a YA urban fantasy proposal out there and I wrote it because the heroine in the storyline wasn’t right as an adult. She needed to be a teenager. And once I lowered her age and played with the dialogue it all fell into place.

So maybe it’s that way with other authors. The main characters just need to be younger.

    Linda

  19. Comment by Linda Wisdom — July 7, 2008 @ 11:12 am

    AshNay!!!

At the moment I’m not sure what will happen with Jazz and Nick. The ideas for their next book are brewing — pardon the pun — and I won’t make it easy for them.

So right now, anything can happen.

    Linda

  20. Comment by Linda Wisdom — July 7, 2008 @ 11:14 am

    Hi Mario!

Funny about tri-tip sandwiches because they’re mentioned in Wicked By Any Other Name. Just not supernatural. We have a mesquite bbq place that serves great sandwiches so I borrowed the idea from them.

    I think the safest way to avoid a hex is to not tick off a witch. Chocolate always works. :}

    Linda

  21. Comment by CrystalGB — July 7, 2008 @ 11:18 am

Hi Linda. Great interview. 50 Ways to Hex Your Lover sounds good. I love books about witches.
Are there any other paranormal creatures that you would consider writing books about?
What is the most unusual comment you have gotten from a fan?

  22. Comment by Linda Wisdom — July 7, 2008 @ 11:26 am

    Hi Crystal!

I have a wild variety of creatures in the books that keeps me pretty content.

So far not an unusual comment that stands out.

    Linda

  23. Comment by Justine — July 7, 2008 @ 11:55 am

Well, gee, Linda, do I like your book? Hmmmm….oh, wait, Pres of the Fan Club & champion of Fuzzy Bunny Slippers everywhere, here! Yes, Yes, I adore your book!

    Okay, commercials done…..
Linda, who would you say might be the most unusual person, or group, you’ve met through your writing? (Para or normal style….hey, I like that, but I digress….)
Also, even though I know the answer, for the viewers at home, what food above all others would Fluff & Puff subsist on if they could eat only one thing for the rest of their fluffy days?
Do you have a favorite witch in your series?
Has the research you’ve done for your para books led you down any paths you never thought you’d tread? (You can interpret this one so many ways, so just run with it, Linda!)

Okay, I’ll hush, now, and let other fine folks put in their 25 cents worth, too.

Thanks so much for doing the interview for B3, Linda! This was great fun & educational, too!

I don’t have any questions, but this has been a lot of fun to read, thanks! I will definitely check out the Jazz books. Best of luck to you, Linda!

  26. Comment by Linda Wisdom — July 7, 2008 @ 12:28 pm

    Hi Sarai!

I think it would be fun to come up with something to totally floor the guys, but if so, it will be down the road. I like the idea of foxes though!

    Linda

  27. Comment by Linda Wisdom — July 7, 2008 @ 12:35 pm

    Hi Justine!

Justine is fantastic at getting the word out about Jazz and her posse.

Unusual as in character? Because Dweezil would definitely head the list there.

Fluff and Puff love their chocolate. They have a sweet tooth, but licorice root also is up
    there.

So far, I’ve only written about two of the witches. Jazz is my favorite, but I know Thea, my diva romance writing witch, will give her a run for her money.

I have learned a ton writing these books and when you consider my witches are 700 years old that means I’m looking at older magic. I’ve written some paranormal in the past but now that I’m let loose I feel as if anything can happen.

I’m also using bits and pieces of history in their books and that’s been fun. Stasi’s book, Wicked By Any Other Name, which comes out next spring has a storyline that draws on past history.

    Linda

  28. Comment by Linda Wisdom — July 7, 2008 @ 12:35 pm

    Thanks for stopping by, Rosa!

    Linda

  29. Comment by Justine — July 7, 2008 @ 12:44 pm

    Dweezil is a riot!
And please, let F&P know their chocolate bunnies are on the way….with licorice lace bows.

  30. Comment by Cathy M — July 7, 2008 @ 12:55 pm

What a fun interview. My favorite books are paranormal romance that makes me chuckle, and I just added your new release to my wish list.

I haven’t read any of June’s stories yet, so thanks for the heads up. And the music on your myspace site is beautiful, so a big yea to another Braveheart fan.

  31. Comment by Becky Strait — July 7, 2008 @ 1:12 pm

    Hi LInda!!,
I read the 4th of July blurbs on Casablanca!! How adorable are those darn bunnies!! I immediately ordered 50 Ways from Amazon. I can’t wait for it to get here!! I need more bunnies!!
I love the fact that you based Irma on Vicki Lawrence’s Mama. That’s exactly who I pictured when I read the excerpt, LOL.

Thanks for the great interview and I’m just pyched about getting my copy of 50 ways!
    Hugs
    Becky

  32. Comment by Linda Wisdom — July 7, 2008 @ 1:28 pm

    Thanks Becky!

There’s more holiday stories about the bunny slippers at their MySpace.

The minute I started writing Irma I heard Vicki Lawrence’s Mama’s voice in my head. One of our local channels airs the show and watching it just seals the deal.

    Linda

  33. Comment by Becky Strait — July 7, 2008 @ 1:55 pm

I’m headed to myspace for some bunny hijinx!!

I had that same reaction the moment I read Irma. I could hear Mama in my head. Isn’t that funny? I always loved that character!
Cya back at Casablana and Wickedly Romantic :)
    muahahaha

  34. Comment by Ruth — July 7, 2008 @ 1:56 pm

    Ruth,

Hm, more a plea. If you all enjoy Jazz enough please let friends and family know. Blackmail them if need be. I’d really like to keep on writing about all the witches and I’d like to write more stories about Jazz too.

    Linda

  37. Comment by sarah — July 7, 2008 @ 2:24 pm

Hi Linda I have not read your book yet but I really want to it sounds delightful.
My question is if you have any advice for a young aspiring writer?

  38. Comment by Linda Wisdom — July 7, 2008 @ 2:32 pm

    Hi Sarah,

Read everything in the genre you wish to write. Take classes and never be afraid to ask questions. There’s no such thing as a stupid question.

And don’t let rejections get you down. Just keep on writing!

    Linda

  39. Comment by Ashley Renee — July 7, 2008 @ 2:34 pm

I feel like I’ve heard that advice somewhere before…
    HMM…
    LOL.

    Yes, you have AshNay, m’dear. And you listen to me, don’t you? :}

    Linda

  41. Comment by Ashley Renee — July 7, 2008 @ 2:48 pm

Is this a trick question? LOL.
    Yes Linda, I always do!
Well, except that day that you told me I better be writing and instead I avoided it and pointed out that I may be writing for all you knew. Yeah, I wasn’t. LOL, In fact I got nothing done and then felt bad later. I’ve never disobeyed you since.
    Learned my own lesson. =)
Aren’t you just so proud? =D LOL.

  42. Comment by Justine — July 7, 2008 @ 2:56 pm

Linda, your advice is good stuff….of course, I am still trying to finish my sotry, but I have not given up on it, either….My leading lady keeps threatening me if i don’t get her story out.

  43. Comment by Linda Wisdom — July 7, 2008 @ 3:00 pm

But you learned your lesson, AshNay and I’m proud of you for admitting it.

    And write!

  44. Comment by Linda Wisdom — July 7, 2008 @ 3:00 pm

What authors and genres do you enjoy reading?

When you are writing do you listen to music, watch tv or do you need it to be completely quiet?

    Hi Amy,

I read most genres, love paranormal and urban fantasy, natch, I also love mysteries and humorous romance. Yasmine Galenorn, Annette Blair, Candace Havens, Beverly Barton, Vicki Lewis Thompson, Carrie Vaughn, Mercy Briggs, Michelle Bardsley and many many more. I wish I had more time to write!

I have the TV on when I write. Sometimes if I get stuck I’ll pull out a movie that suits the mood of the scene I need to write.

    Linda

Hi Linda! I’ve got 50 Ways to Hex Your Lover on my (mental) TBR list. We all know that paranormal fiction is really popular these days. Within that genre, what recent trends have you spotted(are witches overtaking vampires now, is lighter stuff or more noir flavored more popular)? Are there challenges unique to writing paranormal fiction as opposed to the other genres you’ve tried, and what are they? Thanks, I really enjoyed this interview!

  57. Comment by Shirley — July 7, 2008 @ 4:52 pm

Haven’t read 50 Ways but now I’m hyped and gotta get it. Would you please conjure up a spell that allows me to get more reading done! Does that count as a question? Oops -now that makes 2!

    Thanks Tami!

It’s good to see you here.

  59. Comment by Linda Wisdom — July 7, 2008 @ 5:50 pm

    Tami,

Fluff and Puff named themselves. They’re non threatening yet they have snark and the razor sharp teeth. I wanted something that goes with the image of bunny slippers too.

Jazz always seemed like a witch. She was one even the first time I wrote her up. Sometimes I try different personas on a character to see if I have it right. It’s always what seems to be a good fit.

    Linda

  60. Comment by Rachel — July 7, 2008 @ 5:51 pm

One thing that caught my attention with your book was the cover art. It is absolutely perfect for the book and really stood out to me. I LOVE it! Who did the artwork?

  61. Comment by Linda Wisdom — July 7, 2008 @ 5:53 pm

    Hi Kimberly!

They say vampires are totally hot, but I see so many other changes. Alexis Morgan’s Paladin series which is awesome, Lilithy Saintcrow’s series, Kim Harrison’s. It’s as if there’s room for them all. We all have our likes and dislikes. Some will like Weres more than vampires and witches. Others only pick up vampire novels.

As for challenge, it’s getting everything right. Creating the right spells, using the right items. I have witch friends to call upon for information when I need it and I value them for helping me out.

I think the best part is writing a world of my own.

    Linda

  62. Comment by Lina — July 7, 2008 @ 5:53 pm

Hi, sorry I’m late (or am I) I think I’m 5 hours behind you.

  63. Comment by Linda Wisdom — July 7, 2008 @ 5:54 pm

    LOL Shirley!

If I could do it, I’d cast that spell on me too.

Only way for more writing is taking lots and lots of LONG baths.

    Linda

  64. Comment by Justine — July 7, 2008 @ 5:57 pm

Yes, Mom, I will listen to you….
and I’ll listen to my characters….although she tells me I have to go get motorcycle riding lessons so I can write about her “hobby” more acurately….
I liked seeing that you pull out the DVD’s to ge scene help occasionally. That’s a nice tip. I tend to put on music that speaks to the characters or the scene I am writing.
Yasmine had an interesting tid bit (I think it was Yas; if not, I’m giving her credit for this ida, anyway); she mentioned that she sometimes uses one of thecomputer games where you can create an envrionment to create her characters’ spaces, so she gets the physical descriptions right, and no one ends up walking into walls. I loved that idea & plan on getting one of those games, soon.

  65. Comment by Linda Wisdom — July 7, 2008 @ 5:57 pm

Thanks Rachel! I love the artwork too. Sourcebooks handles that and they’re working on Wicked By Any Other Name’s cover now which looks like will follow that same look.

What I love with Hex Appeal’s cover is that the band on her dress and her shoes match the band on her hat. Jazz would appreciate the attention to detail.

    Linda

  66. Comment by Linda Wisdom — July 7, 2008 @ 5:59 pm

    Justine,

That’s Yaz. She’s great at doing that. With me, it’s watching characters move and speak. I can see atmosphere and anything else that helps out.

Sounds like it’s motorcycle lessons for you or just hang out at a Harley shop.

    Linda

    Hi Lina!

    Glad you could show up.

    Linda

  68. Comment by Lina — July 7, 2008 @ 6:10 pm

    Great! I’m not too late.
Linda, just wondering if you mentioned yet what your writing process is? Just curious as to how you go about writing your books. Does the idea arrive in your head fully formed, or do you piece it together as you go along?

  69. Comment by Rachel — July 7, 2008 @ 6:14 pm

Oh! Can you tell us anything about Wicked By Any Other Name?

    Little sneak preview? Hmmm? :)

  70. Comment by Linda Wisdom — July 7, 2008 @ 6:18 pm

    Lina,

Many times I know the ending before the middle. Call that confusing! Most of it is inside my head, telling me where I’m supposed to go with my writing. It’s always seemed that way.

I also hate writing a synopsis, because many times the final book doesn’t come out the same.

    Linda

  71. Comment by Linda Wisdom — July 7, 2008 @ 6:22 pm

Wicked By Any Other Name is about Stasi who’s considered the good-hearted witch. She’s sweet, believes in romance and has a lingerie/romance novel boutique. The books are arranged to coordinate with the lingerie.

She also has a snarly 9 inch gargoyle named Horace who’s happiest when he’s hiding out in the dressing rooms. You can guess why.

Except now someone is suing Stasi for breach of contract — seems Stasi’s romantic sachet didn’t work on a cheating husband. So a wizard attorney is showing up and finding Stasi very attractive. The small town of Moonstone Lake is readying for Halloween except there’s strange things going on as in power outages, heavy snowfall, paranoia among the townspeople against Stasi and Blair, her best friend, who also lives up there and has her own shop.

Jazz, Nick, Irma and the slippers show up along with a few surprises along the way.

    Linda

  72. Comment by Rachel — July 7, 2008 @ 6:25 pm

When is the release? I absolutely love the appearances of gargoyles in the paranormal genre. Can’t wait to get to read this one and meet Horace. :)

  73. Comment by Lina — July 7, 2008 @ 6:30 pm

    Thanks, Linda.
I always find it interesting to know how the process works for others.

  74. Comment by Linda Wisdom — July 7, 2008 @ 6:32 pm

I don’t have the exact month yet. I should know soon and I’ll let you know. All I know so far is spring of 2009.

My agent gave me a wonderful gargoyle for Christmas and I knew Horace needed to be in a book. Plus my dog, Bogie, is in the book as Stasi’s magickal dog who disappears on a whim.

    And Stasi does something interesting when she gts nervous, but I’m not giving that away. :}

    Linda

Loved your interview here, Linda. Had to smile on the “bunny” slippers.

Do they take care of the dust bunnies that can be found under the bed? If so.. I’d love to have them come to my house.

What are your favorite paranormal TV shows?

Thanks for spending time answering questions.

  76. Comment by Justine — July 7, 2008 @ 6:54 pm

Great sneak peak, Linda! (No shock, there, though….)
does she change color when she gets nervous?Make her clothes disappear? Make the GUY’S cothes disappear?

And yeah, gargoyles ROCK!(sorry I could not help myself…hey, maybe i should put that on one of my t-shirts…coming to a Zazzle storefront near you!)

    Hi Big Sis!
Glad to see I’m not the only one you crack the whip with.
As long as I’ve known you I have to say that Jazz and company is the best thing you’ve written. Because it is you through and through.

    Great interview!

    Hi Ann M!

I have drawers under our bed so dust bunnies are safe.

I’m hoping to have a website up later this year. I was just waiting to find the right look. Although I’m sure Fluff and Puff will insist on having their own page.

    Hi Linda~

    1. Did always see yourself writing in the paranormal genre?

    2. How would you spend a perfect day?

    Have a great day everyone!

I have already signed up for the newsletter.

  83. Comment by Linda Wisdom — July 7, 2008 @ 9:05 pm

    Hi Lori,

I’ve always loved paranormal books and wrote my first paranormal in the late 1980s which came out through Harlequin American Romance. And I wrote a few more, but had to wait until paranoramal became popular enough to dive into it the way I wanted to.

    The perfect day?

Pampering myself at a spa!!! You name the treatment, I’d have it.

Will you please share the names of your other paranormal titles? I am sure I would love to read them as well as other Linda Wisdom fans. :)

Enjoyed the interview and I’ve posted about this at my blog: http://ladyvampire2u.blogspot.com/ .
Okay, now I read the post, read the other questions following it but I don’t think anyone has asked you this yet. During the interview, you said you thought you would like to be a shapeshifter if given the choice. Any particular species? Just curious.
And I love the way “Wicked By Any Other Name” sounds. Definitely a book I’ll be watching for.

  91. Comment by Gina Growe — July 8, 2008 @ 2:08 am

Like everyone else, I particularly loved Fluff and Puff…really wanted them to cause even more problems…they seem like such strong characters - could they carry a book or at least could you do a “How to Care for Your Immortal Footwear”?

  92. Comment by jackie young — July 8, 2008 @ 2:24 am

hey, just fer fun….you wanna be a shape shifter….what would you do in a typical ‘fun day’?

  93. Comment by Heather — July 8, 2008 @ 4:49 am

    Hi,

I was wondering how you get inspired for new books? also
Do you read lots of the hottest books to keep up with other authors or do you just have certain favorites you read?

  94. Comment by Ruth Schaller — July 8, 2008 @ 4:52 am

    Hi there!

Well this was a pretty neat interview. My only question for you is:

How did you get your ideas for your books?

I know that seems like a pretty standard question, but I always ask the authors that. I aspiring to be a writer myself and most of my ideas just fall into my lap. So I like to know what everyone else does.

Count me in for this contest. Also I’ve posted this on my book blog:

2.If you could change your life, or do something different what would it be?

    Ruth,

    Same here on ideas. They just pop up. With Jazz she seemed to show up and say “have I got a story for you” and I wrote it. A lot of characters also like to introduce themselves when I’m running errands. Makes for an interesting conversation in the car. :}

    Linda

  101. Comment by Linda Wisdom — July 8, 2008 @ 10:30 am

    Hi Anita,

It does clash with my home life, especially when I have a deadline around the holidays. But I’ve been published for 28 years, so my family is used to it and we work around it every way we can.

I’ve always wanted to be a writer. That was my goal from the time I could hold a pencil. If I’d gone an alternate way it would have been fashion merchandising. My journalism advisor in college told me I had no future in fiction writing and she became so negative I changed majors and switched over to fashion merchandising.

    Linda

  102. Comment by JOYE — July 8, 2008 @ 12:40 pm

    Enjoyed the comments.
As an author, do you read the dialogue aloud with someone else to see how it sounds?

  103. Comment by Linda Wisdom — July 8, 2008 @ 1:30 pm

    Hi Joye,

No, I don’t read dialogue aloud. My books appear as a movie in my head and I guess you’d say something is reading the dialogue to me that way.

    My questions are

Coke, Pepsi or something else entirely.

I love an author that can make me break out in laughter as well as have an action & romance filled plot line.

What are your muses inspiring you to write next?
What authors do you like to kick back with when you need some time to recharge your batteries so to speak?
