Heat Stroke: Paws To Heal by Lena Austin
While I had some problems with this short story, overall it delivers what it promises. A lot of heat in a few short pages. The female shares a name with the editor of the book really did bother me but that’s a personal thing. It felt a bit–self-indulgent. Still at only ten pages long, Astin packs a lot of sexual punch for the reader.
It’s an extremely sexy scene with well-written descriptions of what’s happening and who’s doing what to whom. Two alphas have to regain trust in one another and they do it through sex. The female, an alpha in her own right, has to guide them. I can’t fuss about the sex. If
you like menage a trois, get this super short hot read because Astin does seem to have a good handle on how to write a real menage. By real I mean everyone does everyone which makes it hot hot hot for me.
As a reader, I felt slightly cheated because I did not know these characters before and I did not get a sense of who they were other than some horny weredogs and a werewolf. You have to set it in your head that you are not going to get more than a lengthy Penthouse (albeit far kinkier than any Penthouse I’ve ever read) article. And I don’t mean that to sound so harsh. I would absolutely love to see more on these characters because Austin managed to pique my interest. She definitely pens a hot story, y’all.
I couldn’t get away from the feeling that there could have been so much more to this story which is kudos to the author for making me pant for more. Austin even manages to weave in a bit of humor in this short. So let’s give this one four tombstones for making this cranky Southern Belle need a fan and a new glass of iced tea. For the length, it delivers what it promises. Heat and stroke in one quick package.
