At Grave’s End by Jeaniene Frost
Powerful allies are made and ancient foes are battled in the third book in the Night Huntress series, At Grave’s End, by Jeaniene Frost. Cat Crawfield, vampire/human hybrid and government assassin of the undead, has a problem: the more vampires she kills, the more easily her marks seem to recognize her. When your survival relies on the element of surprise, notoriety is not something you want.
To make her job even more difficult, her father, a psychotic vampire named Max, wants her dead. Who said blood was thicker than water? But there’s more to the attack than meets the eye. Max is no match for Bones, Cat’s vampire boyfriend, and he knows it. So now the question is who in the vampire community thinks they’re powerful enough to back Max and take on Bones…and who wants Cat dead badly enough to take that risk?
This was one of the most well-written books I’ve ever read. The relationship between Cat and Bones has matured to a level where you know they’re meant to be together. Even in a bondage bar (where the mere mention of “Bones” and “tongue-piercing” did more for me than the most intimate of love scenes), their loyalty to each other overshadows the scantily clad patrons and the violent bloodshed. Justina, Cat’s mother, whom I’ve often dreamed dies a horrible and painful death at the hands of a possessed Girl Scout, grows to a point where I found myself liking her and even laughing at her jokes.
Three books into the series and the plot is still fresh and engaging, leaving me biting my nails and shedding tears at the trials the characters are put through. When the story culminates and all odds are against the good guys, Jeaniene pulls out all the stops and takes the reader on a ride they may not be able to survive.
My only complaint is that At Grave’s End brings the series one step closer to completion. I can’t get enough of the damaged heroine and her overly protective beau or the insanely jealous friend who will do anything to get the girl. It’s rare that an author can ensnare you so completely in her world, but Jeaniene Frost has succeeded and then some, putting her unquestionably on my must read list.

I loved you this review - it did the book justice. I too am angered that it brings the story of Cat and Bones one step closer to completion. I would love to see a paranormal like this find a series life similar to JD Robb’s In Death…. that would make me happy. I wonder if we can petition J.Frost for that. She could pull it off - I know she can.
