Release Party, Chat and Contest With Author Judith Rochelle
PLEASE NOTE: The contest portion of this event is now closed. The winner will be chosen at a later date and notified via email.
I am completely fascinated by alpha males, especially those who are current or former military. Combining them with heroines who have special psychic abilities has given me the ultimate high in my writing, and that’s what I’ve done in The Phoenix Agency series. Freeze Frame, Book Four: The Phoenix Agency, pair Kat Culhane, a remote viewer, with agency partner Mike D’Antoni, a former lover who appears again in her life just at a critical moment.
Researching these books has been an incredible experience. I have a source who was in Delta Force for ten years, an amazing man who has been wonderful about sharing his experience with me. I was also able to visit the place where sniper rifles are made for the marine Corps, and the company owner gave me a lot of information that I used when describing the rescue operation in Freeze Frame. I also read The Declassified Defense Intelligence Agency Manual on Remote Viewing, not the lightest of reading but fascinating in the way it explains what percipients can do. The government has used and continues to use remote viewing as another means of collecting intelligence information . researching drug cartels, I found the most unbelievable report to Congress son the Sinaloa Drug Cartel, the model for my villains in the story. If you ever want to scare yourself to death and stay up late at night, Google this and read it.
And finally, I was able to connect with two actually percipients who combined became my heroine, Kat Culhane, a woman whose gift is failing and who must pull it together in the midst of a terrible crisis.
Readers, I have a question for you, what paranormal ability fascinates you?

A big warm welcome to Judith from all of us here at Bitten by Books! Thank you so much for taking time out of your busy writing schedule to be with us today!
To answer your question, I love all aspects of the paranormal, Clairvoyance is probably my favorite.
Judith what draws you to write paranormal fiction?
[Reply]
Hi Rachel. It’s a pleasure to be here today and I am looking forward to eharing from my readers.
[Reply]
Hello and it is so nice of you to come today! I really like the remote viewing. It is nothing new since we had it and so did Hitler but it is something that catches my imagination. I wouldn’t mind having that ability myself. When reading up on these things do you sometimes want to jump in bed and cover up your head? I have done all of 4. Thankyou, Lisa D.
[Reply]
Cover my head? Oh, absolutely. It’s amazing what some people’s brains can do. And BTW, remote viewing is still being used in a limited fashion. The Stargate Project was dissolved but a smaller project continues
[Reply]
I like the idea of being able to touch and object and see it’s past. Of course you’d want to be able to only do it voluntarily. Otherwise it would be overwhelming.
[Reply]
I’ve never read anything by you Ms. Rochelle, but I’m intrigued. I think I wouldn’t mind being able to listen to people’s thoughts, but only if I can control it. I wouldn’t want to be bombarded by random thoughts every few minutes.
[Reply]
I RSVPed.
I honestly don’t know what paranormal gift I would like. I’m thinking that maybe something that would work for the betterment of humankind.
[Reply]
Gabrielle, What you’re referring to is an empath and there are many of those. But they need to develop shield and learn how to use them or, indeed, they’d be bombarded beyond tolerance. There are guides who teach empaths how to do this. I think I’d like that myself. And I hope you’ll feel encouraged to try one of my books. Maybe Always On My Mind, the first book in The Phoenix Agency. The heroine and the hero communicate telepathically.
[Reply]
Hi sharon, There are lots of psychic gifts that would fall into that category. And there are psychic guides who can teach you to use your gifts in whatever way you choose, as long as it’s for good.
[Reply]
rsvp’d . I have always been fascinated by clairvoyance. Thanks for taking the time to share with us. Your books sound really fascinating, a step aside from the typical vamps, werewolves, etc. It’s always nice to have a change of pace to read once in a while
[Reply]
That’s the way I felt when writing these books. Actually Book One: Always On My Mind, was inspired by a song by the late Townes Van Zandt, “If I Needed You.” Everything just flowed from there. And the more I dug into psychic gifts the more I wanted to write about them.
[Reply]
Hi Judith! Thanks for being here with us today! Your books sound really interesting, and I bet the research was fascinating. As for a gift that has always fascinated me, there are a lot, but I think telekinesis has always been my favorite.
[Reply]
Oh, I definitely agree. There’s so much a writyer can do with a hero or heroine who has that. Hmm! Note to self: do more research on telekinesis for book.
[Reply]
I RSVP’d
I am fascinated by telepathy…as much as it takes a toll to deal with the barrage of information there are just so much advantages to knowing what’s going on in peoples’ minds.

Hi Judith. Welcome to BBB.
Hmmm — really all paranormal abilities fascinate me to some degree, but I guess I would say that either the ability to see ghosts or prescience are the most intriguing to me.

Hi, Anna. It’s nice to see you here. you always brighten my day. Yeah, telepathy is a favorite of mine, too. I loved writing the mental conversartions between Mark and Faith in Always On My Mind, and dealing with a more powerful telepath who was trying to block them. Wouldn;t it be great if we all ahd that power to some extent?
[Reply]
Hi Carol. I love reading about shapeshifters (and writing about them) and also about law enforcement and military who use psychic powers. I’m a big fan of Kay Hooper, Christine Feehan and Merline Lovelace, who write some really, really great books.
[Reply]
Ooh, Patsy! Shapeshifters! I love my wolf shifters. I’ve been afscinated by wolves for ages and love reading stories about them, whether in romantic fiction or straight mystery with a touch of romance.

2. I like psychic ability/intuition, especially when it can help keep you out of trouble, prepare you for the worst or help you solve a problem. Speaking from experience, in a mild fashion. Any movie or book with something like that, I seem to have a connection to, like The Gift, among others. It’s nice to see characters that have some of the same traits, even if they are more powerful. I liked your chat and going over how you’ve researched for your books. Paranormal abilities, of course, would always be helpful in the defense sector.
I am also interested by ghost activity (since it can be “felt”, so to speak, and the technology’s getting better), and I think I know an empath that needs help learning how to put up walls so they can feel normal and choose to help when necessary. I like how they help the empathic and ghost-seeing children on Psychic Kids and how some psychics have helped families through solving crimes. Basically, anything that can make this world move along more smoothly. Telekinesis would be really helpful if you needed to move rubble off of people, and Firestarter (the movie with Drew Barrymore) always had me interested in pyrokinesis (only for practical purposes and my fascination but great respect for fire–not an arsonist, by any means–it’s just one of those pretty, helpful yet destructive things of which you must take great care).
Good subject, and your books sound good, too. Right up my alley. I also like the Phoenix legend (probably partially because my favorite car is a Firebird, with a phoenix painted on the hood).

What paranormal ability fascinates me? I would love to be able to know for sure if my instincts or hunches about things are right without second guessing myself about them. The ability to communicate with animals would be very cool as well.
Now some questions for you:
What do you like to eat while writing?
What author makes you laugh out loud?
Do you carry a notebook with you?

Hi, Judith! Telekinesis would be a great talent to have. When I was a kid I taught myself to wiggle my nose like Samantha on “Bewitched” because I wanted to be able to make objects float to me instead of getting up to fetch them! Of course it didn’t work, but I amaze little kids today with my nose wiggling talent.

Hi Judith,
~
[OT: My Mom's name + my middle name, Judith!]
This is my first time here. I found you thru a CJEnglandsaysFollowYourDream yahoo group email. That was hours ago! Your question about ‘paranormal abilities’ started me wondering… how many different paranormal abilities are there? I googled ‘p a’ and found psychic~junkie.com to start and I’ve been on a journey of about 3 hours! All I can say is “it’s all your fault”, LOL, and thank you for this opportunity!
Now I think I’m ready to answer your question
My first choice would be the ability to heal including channeling, psychic empathy healer, energetic healing, and faith healing. I love reading about that in novels [and in ‘real’ life].
For myself I’d like to have abilities of a Pet Psychic for animals in general and especially my 2 rescue kittens.
Because I’m nosey, [substitute ‘curious’ if you’re kind], I’d like to be able to read Auras, be Telepathic and Empathic [w/all the control necessary for sanity], as well as have the skill of a Psychometrist.
Just for fun ~ I’d like to be able to Astrally Project and/or have an Out~of~Body Experience by choice, in Lucid Dreaming, Remote Viewing and Morphing.
It would be cool to be telekinetic, be able to levitate, have ESP and Retrocognition.
Phew! It looks like the only powers I’m not interested in having are those involving prophecy and past lives! Imagination is a wonderful place to be!
If I may, I’d like to ask you how are you connected to CJ England? I noticed that she’s not on the list of authors on Bitten By Books.
I don’t need to be Psychic to know it’s time to feed the kitties, ‘grin’.
Thanks for listening,
Sara J. ~ : - ]

Hey Denise! Yes, being a writer was something that always hung around in my mind. I was a reporter and wrote for magazines but fiction was my real love. It wasn’t until a few years ago, tho, that I had the chance to sit down and see if I could make it work.

Hi Raquel. Well, I drive a big double cab pickup with hot pink license plates and I have a new tattoo. I wrote The Phoenix Agency books because I was able to combine two things-my fascination with alpha males who are military or ex-military and my love of all things psychic. I fell in lopve with all the Phoenix men and wanted to keep them locked in my room! LOL!
[Reply]
And Raquel, thanks for poasting this everywhere. You rock.

Hi Sara. So Judith runs in your family. How great! Yup, there are tons of different psychic gifts. I have two huge encyclopedias about them and willprobably never run otu of material. I have been a member of CJs Yahoo group for what seems like forever. We connect a klong time ago through another publisher and I stay connected because she runs a great group.

Dina-I’d love to be ale to change the future, too. I think it would be a great gift.

Hi Raonaid. Yoiur role-playing character sounds very interesting. I think the heroine of my next book will be an empath. I’m reading everything I can find about it right now.

I read a book a few months back, Skin Game, by Ava Grey, and the herione’s ability was to touch any person and get their greatest strength. I thought that was very cool, but it would also be a bit troubling. On any level, it was super interesting

The two powers of the mind that fascinate me the most are telekinesis and psychometry(spelling-the power to touch something and be able to know its history if you wish to). The other paranormal power that I wish existed is the ability to shape shift.

I think I really am interested in the idea of changing shapes and foresight. There’s something really interesting about the ability to change shape, and in the aspect of a changeling, to have another part of you that has this whole different view. For foresight, I always wonder what can be changed and what cannot and wonder to myself, given the opportunity, what I would really do.
Thanks so much!
