Hello! I am so excited you are with us today! I am a huge fan of your acting and writing. I haven’t read Cat’s Claw yet but it is on my to read list. I am sure it will not disappoint.
[Reply]
Hi Amber! So glad you could join us today. My question is: what inspires you more, acting, writing or directing? I wanna do them all I can’t seem to decided which one I like the most.
[Reply]
Hi Amber! Thanks for being here with us today! I was wondering what are your favorite paranormal beings? Also, what authors most inspired your work?
I’ll have to watch the vlogs later, my computer is having technical difficulties.
[Reply]
Hi! I’m RSVP number 12, but you can call me Trista, and my question is, which do you find more complex… writing screenplays or writing novels?
[Reply]
Amber,
I do have a question (I have to make this quick I am at my day job…) Do you prefer to work solo on projects or do you prefer to partner up?
Sisses!
Caden
[Reply]
Hi Amber. First let me say how adorable you are! I have loved you as an actress and now as an author. I am sooo looking forward to Cat’s Claw because I loved Death’s Daughter. I am already on your friend’s list on FB and following you on Twitter (as lasergirl70)and I did RSVP. I also posted a link on my FB profile. Thanks for taking the time to do these vlog’s for us here!
[Reply]
Also, huge fan of your writing and acting, but I really enjoy your directing, and I was wondering, among the three which is your family most supportive of?
[Reply]
hey amber…first off i would like to say i loved your first book havent gotten out to buy your second one yet but im excited to read it…my question is how did you ever come up for the idea of your book?
[Reply]
Hi Amber!
Are there any books that you feel you could read again and again, and it would never get old?
Thanks! =D
[Reply]
I guess I should ask my second question while work is slow. lol… Are you ready to spoof “I’m Under Your Spell”, because we are definitely gonna give you 200 reviews on Amazon. lol.
[Reply]
Hi Amber! I met you a couple of weeks ago at Mysterious Galaxy and you gave me some awesome advice. I did copyright the book but the agent ended up not adding me to her list. Another agent is interested though and wants a bio, synopsis, and marketing strategy. I had never heard of anyone asking for the last and was wondering if that is customary?
[Reply]
Hi Amber,
My question is whether you are a writer that only writes when properly inspired or are you an “ass in the chair” type who works with a schedule and word count goals. I ask this in two contexts, one as a novelist, and the other as a screenwriter.
Thanks a million!
[Reply]
Hi, Amber. First of all, I’d like to say that you’re a incredible inspiration to me, and I consider you something of a hero of mine (or heroine, whichever you prefer.)
My question is: Do you ever have times where you want your characters to do something, but instead of cooperating, they rebel and start developing a life of their own? Do they ever go in directions that you didn’t see and didn’t plan for?
[Reply]
Yet another question, what was your favorite role you got to play in a film?
[Reply]
Hey Harvey! I think you’re suffering from the same syndrome as me! I wanna do them all, too. And I think you can do them all - you just have to forgo having a real life in the process! J/K
I think, if I had to chose, directing would be the winner. I love bossing everyone around!
[Reply]
Hi Amber! I have two questions for you. What books did you read as a child that influenced you the most? Where do you draw your inspiration from? Thanks so much for being here today! You are such a fun person!
Sarah W.
[Reply]
I really enjoyed Death’s Daughter (even bought extras for friends and such) and spent the extra shipping to get my Cat’s Claw from Mysterious Galaxies instead of the bookstore a mile from my condo.
First question I have is that you described the books as a trilogy. Does that mean that is how many are contracted? Outlined? Or do you see three books as a hard and fast end to the series?
[Reply]
Welcome to BBB, Amber! I’m an author as well but let me exhibit a huge fan girl moment right now…squeee!
Whew, okay now that I have that out.
Here are my questions (please feel free to answer only whichever ones you want):
1. Do you have any odd writing quirks (for example eating candy while you write or listening to particular music)?
2. If you could only use ONE word to describe Cats Claw, what would it be?
3. If they made a movie about YOUR life story, what actress would you want to play you (besides yourself, of course)?
Thanks in advance for any and all comments/responses!
I really enjoy your work both on and off screen.
My best,
Kerri
[Reply]
Hey Amber,
Feels like old hat to be asking you questions, nearly a year worth of web following will do the trick!
Question: When you first sit down to write (book, script, blog ect.) what drives you to keep going and not give in to the huge inner critic that’s telling you to quit while you are a head and go cower in the nearest empty dark space?
Buckets of love,
Mel.H
[Reply]
Hey amber! just a question to see if you will be bringing your boks over to the uk.. would love to see you do a book tour over here! love you at miltonkeynes!
[Reply]
hey got another one for ya…who was ur fav actor/actress to work with and y?
[Reply]
NRSVampChick, sorry for the technical difficulties! I had them trying to make the vlogs, so it seems fitting you should have them when trying to watch the vlogs. My fav paranormal beings are probably witches, but they win by a very small margin. And as far as what authors inspired Cat’s Claw…definitely Charlaine Harris and Neil Gaiman.
[Reply]
Hello Amber. Thank you for always being there for the fans. It was a lot of fun chatting with you in 2009 during the “Death’s Daughter” promotional tour.. I just received my signed and personalized copy of “Cat’s Claw” in the mail from Mysterious Galaxy!
Question: As you were not able to visit Detroit last year, might you attend the Motor City Comicon in May or do a book signing here to promote “Cat’s Claw”? I am so hoping to finally meet you!
[Reply]
Hi Trista! I find writing prose more complex than writing screenplays - only because you have so may more pages of details that you have to remember at any given time. With a screenplay, the description are much simpler and no one really cares if you screw up a character’s eye color because somewhere down the line, there’s gonna be an actor playing the part and their eye color will remain consistent…hopefully. Long answer to simple question!
[Reply]
Howdy Caden Leigh! I’m glad there is room in my life for both, thank goodness, because doing solo stuff can be lonely even though it is very rewarding. It’s nice to collaborate, to work with other people that you respect. I think it only makes whatever you’re working on better!
[Reply]
Amber, you mentioned that Neil Gaiman is a major influence on your writing. Which of his works was the biggest influence on you?
[Reply]
hey amber on one of ur vlogs u said that u liked christopher pike…i love reading him growing up to…what is your fav book by him?…ps i read on the back of cereal boxes too lol
[Reply]
Hey amber! im a huge fan of your work on Buffy and still carry some animosity for Joss Whedon for killing Tara! That was terrible
haha but coming back to your writing: Were you always interested in this type of fiction or did it come naturally when you started writing? How much did your work on Buffy contribute to your decisions as an author?
lots of love from
Cassandra
(Toronto, Canada)
[Reply]
Hey Amber,
Could you name your favorite book, movie and play?
[Reply]
sorry to ask another question but just thinking about buffy and looking at Cat’s Claw…is it just me or does Calliope look alot like Willow?
[Reply]
Hi Amber!
I’m so excited to hear that you are writing! I will be picking up your books ASAP, they sound very fun.
I wanted to say this–I read Christopher Pike’s books as well, my favorite being Remember Me, (book one in the little trilogy he did).
I wanted to know if you have a favorite Christopher Pike book?
And I know exactly what you mean– Books are totally a drug, I drive my honey crazy when I’m reading. Even the kids have learned to back off when I’m reading.
(Posted on Twitter and Facebook….)
Thanks for coming here, aren’t the gals here at Bitten By Books awesome?
[Reply]
Oh nuts, someone already asked about the Christopher Pike books!
So New Question…
Amber, are you a plotter (plan out your stories) with your writing or a pantser (Just kinda write it and see where it goes)?
[Reply]
BTW Amber, (I know, I’m getting to be borderline gushy fan girl) I love your haircut.
[Reply]
Hope nobody minds, but I have a second question for Amber. Can you remember the first book that caused you to really fall in love with reading, or does it seem like the love of reading is something that’s just always been there in your life?
[Reply]
Hi Amber,
I haven’t had a chance to read your books yet but I have Death’s Daughter on my TBR pile. I don’t mind if a series gets expanded past a trilogy as long as the story remains interesting and the plot warrents it - not just expanding a series for the sake of selling more books.
RSVP’d
[Reply]
I absolutely love that you can love and mention both Babysitters’ Club and Tolstoy in the same breath
you are so awesome Amber! (i can’t wait to be free from school work so i can read your book!!!)
i too am a book whore…oh you should read My Sister’s Keepr or time Travellers Wife if you feel like being a bit mainstream and reading stuff that gets turned into movies
i absolutely loved both of them
and i was JUST going to write: how did you like Once More With Feeling as I just rewatched it yesterday…and then you mentioned it in the vlog
amazing.
Ok another question: If your books ever were turned into a movie or television series, who would you want to play Callie? Would you even agree to this?
[Reply]
BTW. Sweet Valley High was high on my list of priorities when I was a teen, and I don’t think you dated yourself at all. LOL!
[Reply]
Anytime, Lisa M. This is fun!
[Reply]
i read sweet valley high too amber and im only 20
[Reply]
Hi Miz Trista H(olmes)! I am going to answer both of your questions here: I am very lucky. My family is uber-supportive of all the crazy things I do, but I think they enjoy the books the most. My fav role that I got to play was probably a toss up between Ella McShane from King of the Hill, Tara from Buffy and Maggie from Race You to The Bottom. My friend, Bronwen, and I had a long conversation about our Sweet Valley High addiction, only to discover that the reason neither of us ever did hard drugs was because of Regina Morrow!!
[Reply]
Hello Amber, what is your favorite cereal to read the back of?
I RSVP & All of 4 is done.
[Reply]
Hey Alicia F.! Where do I come up with ideas for my books…well, for the CRJ series, I adore Joseph Campbell’s The Hero With A Thousand Faces and I wanted to create a female protagonist who would go on the Hero’s Journey. I also wanted to create a world where all religions could co-exist together. So, combine those two ideas and you get Calliope Reaper-Jones!
My fav actor to work with is Angela Bettis - who stars in the film DRONES that Adam Busch and I co-directed - because she is a sweetheart, but also because she’s the real deal. A true movie star of Bette Davis stature.
And on the Christopher Pike front…probably my two favs are Last Act and Spellbound!
[Reply]
Hey Amber! So I guess this is an easier way to talk to you than to do it in person seeing as how I almost cried when I met you this past Saturday in Burbank ^.^” So my question: What is you’re greatest accomplishment to date? The one you’re most proud of.
I’ll be back later to answer your questions as well as ask more but dang school is calling my name right now hehe
oh and I had RSVP yesterday

1) Who is your favorite character from the series?
A)Hmm, that’s hard but definitely Clio, she’s alot like me….
2) How would everyone feel if we expanded the initial trilogy into more Callie books?
A)Would, oh would you, pleaseeeeeeeeeeeee
3) If you could be one of the characters from the books, which one would it be and why?
A) Similar to number one but more elaborate (Amber the mastermind strikes again :)). I want to say Callie because she has the most depth and room for growth buuuuttttt she doesn’t get laid often soooo NO! lol. it’s still Clio, she’s smart and really taken for granted. I think she has a certain realness about her that everyone can relate to when they were young teens where your parents and siblings didn’t think you knew as much as you knew about life so you pretty much skated by doing all sorts of little, mischeivious things until life finally caught up with you. yep, that sounds like me… lol
[Reply]
Oh, Jami Jo, there are so many books in my re-read pile. Probably ‘Girl’ by Blake Nelson is at the top of the list. I adore that book. Every girl should read it. It’s a right of passage!
[Reply]
thx amber…i love those two from him too but my fav is the cold one, one of his adult books
[Reply]
oh… and totally off topic… I heard from a little birdy a while back while you were filming Drones that you just love the name AmBusch… lol… jk.
[Reply]
Hey again, another question.. iv met you twice now at cons, and i have to say your one of the lovelest people to meet your so nice and genuine and seem to wanna be there, but does that every back fire? have you ever had a bad/scary fan exsperience? xo
[Reply]
I missed these entirely!
1) My favorite character is actually our resident goddess Kali, I just love her spine and spunk. She says what she thinks and doesn’t give a damn
she uses her inner strengths without throwing around her power too much. I did a huge cheer out-loud when she made her appearance in Cat’s Claw.
2) After reading Cat’s Claw and realizing that the third book would be the end I wondered would there really be time to close everything up happily
and see Cali grow enough in the third book to satisfy everyone. I think to finally see Cali shine as a more confident woman and then cut it off there would be sad. I’d definitely read if there were more books.
3) If I could be a character I would probably be Clio because without the
smart brainy little sister there would be a huge hole in Callie’s world. I’d rather be a small pivotal character then the lead.
[Reply]
Harvey Polk, get those reviews flowing cause I am sooooooo down!
Hey Miz Jennifer Peurifoy! I don’t know if that’s customary or not, but I don’t think it’s a bad idea. If you can put together a cool little package explaining how you’ll be setting up twitter, facebook, myspace and goodread author accounts first off, then you can tell’em how you’ll be starting an author blog that you’ll link to other author blogs and then you’ll be submitting cover letters and review copies to all the cool book blogs out there (like Bitten By Books, which I highly recommend!). Just let them know that YOU know how to navigate the Social Networking waters.
[Reply]
Howdy Mike M! There is no rhyme nor reason to my work schedule. When I am on deadline for a book, I become the butt in chair, word count queen, but when I’m not on deadline, I piddle around and wait until I’m inspired. With screenplays, I am definitely more of the wait until inspired - then I’ll sit down and write for like 72 hours straight because the muse is calling. Writing is nuts!
[Reply]
Hi Amber,
I love Cat’s Claw it’s superb and was fun to see Callie grow is a person.
I have a couple of questions (is that allowed?)
Who was the hardest character to write in Cat’s Claw?
If you had the chance to bring Callie & Co to the screen either online or TV in future would you like to do that? If so who would be in your cast and why?
I really enjoyed the book so much thank you for entertaining me!
I did RSVP earlier but under Joseph as for some reason it post under the name Joe.
At the top of the page there are questions for readers do I answers them in the comment box?
[Reply]
G’morning Miz, Ria B! My characters never take no for an answer! They are bossy and if they don’t like what I’ve got in the outline, they let me know at the top of their voices! I like to say that I get to boss them around, but honestly, it’s the other way around
You just learn to go with it. Sometimes my ideas aren’t half as good as theirs!
My mom used to read to my sis and I when we were little and I know that’s where I got my love of books. SO, if that’s the case then it’s all The Bobbsey Twins and Nancy Drew’s faults!
[Reply]
Thanks for sharing your insights with us Amber, you are a pleasure both in person and online. I look forward to my next outing to see you and your future works.
BTW, when is Calliope going to get laid? Not to be a sensationalist, but she IS a modern girl living in NYC.

Hi Amber, BBB crew n Rachel
Enjoyed the vlogs, especially the reading!
But… Amber… you were very naughty telling us you’d auditioned for Bones, but then not going on to say if you got the part or not!
Death’s Daughter was probably one of my favorite reads last year, and so am looking forward to Cat’s Claw, and am squealing with joy that there is a third on its way, too. YES! More. More. More.
[Reply]
Sarah W. this is a fun way to spend a day! As to what my fav books were growing up, I would have to say the below mentioned Bobbsey Twins and Nancy Drew and then, of course, Good Night Moon, Pat the Bunny, Where the Wild Things Are, Amelia Bedelia, the Ramona Books…the list goes on and on.
Where do I get my inspiration? From life. I just enjoy being here in the world and I try to be open-minded and let the things I experience influence my writing
[Reply]
SPOLIER Mike M, the second book kicks that off!
[Reply]
Elizabeth-Amber D.
I’m emailing my receipt for Cat’s Claw and tweeted about the contest http://twitter.com/elizabethamber
1) Who is your favorite character from the series? Callie, of course but I’m really interested in her little sister and her father too.
2) How would everyone feel if we expanded the initial trilogy into more Callie books? I think you’ll make a lot of fans very happy if you do.
3) If you could be one of the characters from the books, which one would it be and why? Kali - I’ve always found Kali fascinating and to experience her as a smart ass character in a book has been a lot of fun. There are a lot of goddesses out there and I wouldn’t mind being her. The power of destruction is a huge responsibility but Amber made her more than that; Kali is more fleshed out and I find her relatable. I definitely hope to read more with her.
[Reply]
Do you ever think your books would be made into audio books? or a Full cast audio Drama.
I sure would buy them.
[Reply]
I see Amber, I’m only part way into Cat’s Claw. I - must - read - on.
[Reply]
Just wondering while I’m sitting here with the computer staring me down, what was the hardest(physically, emotionally, or whatever) episode of Buffy for you to shoot?
[Reply]
I love that your characters are so lively and realistic.
If they WERE real, are there some that you feel you’d get along with better than others? Who’d be one of your best friends, and who would drive you insane?
[Reply]
Is it true that you are from Alabama?
[Reply]
Amber!! Great job on DD #2! My question is completely selfish: When are you coming back to Chicago (sorry to hit you with the “When are you coming to _________?” question, but we miss you terribly!!)? Thanks for always having something new to entertain us with and congratulations on the success of Drones at Slamdance!
[Reply]
Good question, ZombieJoe! (And so glad you enjoyed Death’s Daughter! Yay! i enjoy your tweets btw!) I was contracted for the trilogy, but I’ve been talking to my editor, Ginjer Buchanan, about doing more Callie books once I’ve resolved the initial trilogy stuff. I think if the books continue to sell well, Callie will continue to have a life!
[Reply]
From the many vlogs, facebook, twitter, books, rolls and blog updates you do, I kinda get that you have a very sardonic sensee of humor. What would have to be one the funniest jokes you’ve heard recently?
[Reply]
Hey Kerri Nelson! Now I gotta check out your books! The Winter Olympics romance looks great
1) Odd quirks when I write. I can’t really start writing until I find the song. Each book/script/story has a particular song that encapsulates its tone. Once I’ve found the song - occasionally it’s a playlist of a couple of songs - then I can get cracking. I’m working on the third book now and the song is Death Cab for Cutie’s ‘I will follow you into the dark’.
2) Cat’s Claw, one word description: Egypt.
3) An actress for my life story…uhm, has to be Anna Faris. She takes damn fine pratfalls and since I spend my life tripping over stuff, that is a necessity for any actress who wants to play me.

If there was a vampire film made from one of your works, who would you prefer play the main character, and any of the supporting roles? Do you have any of those people in mind when you created the character(s)?
Thanks

Ok so i’m between classes for the next half hour. To answer the questions you have for us:
1) I love Clio. I like that she’s so awesomely brilliant and unique.
2) I would love it if the Calliope Reaper-Jones series was extended but only if it can be done. Like, only if it doesn’t get overdone. I don’t know if you know get what I’m saying but yea…
3) I think I would like to be Clio because she doesn’t seem to care what’s “in” she’s just her own person and does what she likes to do.
Now a couple more questions for you: What is the weirdest thing you have ever been asked to sign? And, have you ever been part of a woman’s panel (like for Woman’s History Month) and if not would you like to be someday?
[Reply]
Hi Amber,
I’m so excited to watch your vlogs!
1) Who is your favorite character from the series?
A) Callie! Because I relate to her the most.
2) How would everyone feel if we expanded the initial trilogy into more Callie books?
A) I would completely love to read more Callie books! Keep them coming!
3) If you could be one of the characters from the books, which one would it be and why?
Callie, again. Likely because I’d have an easy time pulling off her personality..and also because she’s got an awesome wardrobe
Question for you: Have you always known what you’ve wanted to do regarding your career, or was it more like happenstance? What would you be doing if you were not involved in the career you have now?
Thank you for being so awesome and sharing so much time and so much of yourself with your fans!
[Reply]
I’m off to class but will check in later, looking forward to hearing more from you!

Hi Amber!
It’s Cindy Zastrow - we’ve met before. You and your Mom were kind enough to read my book and give comments before it was published (thanks so much!). Question for you - the majority of your experience in film thusfar has been in the Indie world. Would you be opposed to directing or co-directing a mainstream film with Adam B. in the future? Thanks for your time - keep up the great work!
[Reply]
Hi again,
Shooting for another question (and I RSVPd, BTW)…
I once heard of a party Martin Short threw for his “big name show biz” friends, where the rule was, you had to bring tape of the *worst* project you ever did. The thing you leave off your resume.
My question–as if you don’t see it coming–is: What would that be for you?
[Reply]
Hi Amber, first of must say I’m a huge fan, love all of what you do, but I have not been able to find any of your book’s down here in Australia, do you know if they are out here or will i have to order them? Also must say that I loved you as Tara and was really angry (at Joss and the writers) and sad when they killed you off, probably the only time I have cried watching TV.
Keep up the amazing work.
Thanks
Chris

I just came back to watch the Vlogs (btw, Amber your nostrils are perfectly proportional)!
AND…I’m truly honored that you both checked out MY books at my website & answered all of my questions, too! Thank you and color me thrilled…you totally made my day.
AND…maybe that’s why I adore you so much…I’m a Bama girl too!
Thanks for hanging out with us today at BBB and please keep up your amazing career and I’ll be here to support you.

So I posted 3 times and now decided I am going to make myself more concise by putting my three questions into one post.
Q1. Were you always interested in this type of fiction or did it come naturally when you started writing? How much did your work on Buffy contribute to your decisions as an author?
Q2. just thinking about buffy and looking at Cat’s Claw…is it just me or does Calliope look alot like Willow?
Q3. If your books ever were turned into a movie or television series, who would you want to play Callie? Would you even agree to this?
lots of love from
Cassandra
(Toronto, Canada)
ps
im a huge fan of your work on Buffy and still carry some animosity for Joss Whedon for killing Tara! That was a terribly sad moment to watch:(
[Reply]
Hey Amber…
So, I had two questions for you :o)
1. Is there anything in the story that is personally symbolic that has meaning to you that no one else would pick up on ?
2. What’s your biggest insecurity as a writer, and on the flipside, what are you most confident about ?
To answer your questions :
1) I would have to say Clio is my favorite - I like her independent spirit, and confidence. I also love Runt !
2) I would definitely love more Calliope books! I would also love to see her made into a comic book series. I think the “idea” of the books would make for fantastic adventures, and having a strong female lead would be awesome. We need more comic books for women - comic books that show that women can be just as strong, independent, and successful - as men.
3) I think I would like to be Jarvis - because he is always in the middle of everything. It would also be fun to hang with Calliope - she’s a trip.
So now for the fan stuff that I can’t resist posting… LOL
Just wanted to say that I think that you are wonderful role model for females. Your constant encouragement for women to get out there - jump in with both feet - and do it, is fantastic. I appreciate your down to earth nature, and love that you allow yourself to be seen as a real person, instead of a Hollywood Step-ford. Anyway… thank you for answering the questions, and I look forward to the next book.
( oh and Im supposed to say “yes, I did rsvp, and yes I did post, and yes I did sign in! )
[Reply]
Hey…I’m kinda just posting these as I think of them…
You talked on the vBlogs about your role models as a novelist, I was wondering who they would be as an actress?
Both as in someone whose skills you admire, and someone you’d want to emulate in terms of how they negotiated Hollywood as a woman, if that doesn’t sound too pretentious.

I’m leaving this with my “RSVP”, I answered Amber’s 3 questions in my previous entry, I shared on FaceBook, Twitter, MySpace and StumbleUpon. Just want to make sure my entries are counted. Thanks!

I just wanna say that you’re brilliant at everything you do, and I’m a Bama girl too! I was actually looking into writing as a career but I can never find the time to sit down and write to my hearts content. So I guess my question is “How do you find the time?” I find my schedule packed so full I can barely breathe. And I’m hoping to remedy that at least enough for me to find some time to let loose some of the crazy characters in my head onto paper. I love your vlogs, blogs, and books! Oddly enough I guess I want to thank you for being you, you inspire me to think that I too can do something outside of Bama. Thanks! Love, <3 Becs Payne

Hi Ms. Amber!
Yay for the publication of CAT’S CLAW! (And yay for your film, “Drones,” that I hope to see at a film festival near me, or online, or on DVD!)
1. You seem to use or at least be aware of technologies, including Internetty stuff. With the vlogs and other online appearances, plus an earlier response speaking to social networking (which you do), how do you keep up?
2. A bit related to the above: what are your thoughts on eReaders/eBooks and how those technologies may affect the printing of what I consider “real” books?
P.S. Actors pronounce words all sorts of ways, but “tanuki” (or “Tanuki” - don’t know as I haven’t gotten CAT’S CLAW yet) if Japanese in origin, should be something like, TAH-new-key, with the slight accent on the first syllable. Or whatever.
Thanks and hope to see you in person again one of these days!

Hello Amber,
I have not read your books ‘yet’, but do plan to do so soon! They are going on my ‘to read’ list.
Who would you like to see play your characters on the big screen?
[Reply]
Ah, Mel H. aka Dorkchops, you have hit upon something very important. How do we not let our creativity get marooned on the desert isle of the inner critic? Well, two things: 1) I have bills to pay and I am terrified of creditor’s calling, so that is a big impetus to get work done. 2) I really do force myself to ignore the bastard inner critic. It’s bloody hard, but I just try and get the whole story out with the knowledge that I’ll be going back to do rewrites and that is when I will address all those inner critic’s pesky comments. Hope that helps
[Reply]
I RSVP’d but I haven’t read the book or series yet, so I can’t answer the questions, but I’ll add the book to my tbr for future vblogs/giveaways.
[Reply]
Sazzy and Patrick Green your questions had some similarities so I thought I’d address them together. I would love to come to Detroit and the UK, respectively, but it’s really a matter of having a convention or book store invite me out!

Oh, sorry I keep commenting, but I forgot to say I RSVP’d. I love what you do. <3 Becs

Lucy M asked a fun question! American Gods is probably the book that is the most influential on my work up to this point. I loved how he made the Gods human, gave them distinct personalities and fallibilities. Was very inspirational in how I conceived the Callie books.
[Reply]
Caass19, you’re awesome! Love the consolidated post
1) I’ve always loved genre fiction, so when it came time to chose a genre to write in, I went for fantasy. I think Buffy did influence my writing, as does everything I experience in my life, but I know for fact I wouldn’t be writing prose if I hadn’t been Tara.
2) The hairstyle is totally Willow!
3) zooey deschanel is who I would enjoy seeing play Callie. I would totally be down for an adaptation!
[Reply]
Hey BenVarkentine!
1) My fav play is Arcadia by Stoppard, book is The Journey To The East by Hesse and movie is Antonia’s Line or The Shining - it’s a toss up
2) I did a movie once that never got finished called Sara’s Life. They cast the lead, shot the movie then fired her and hired me - which was rough - and then reshot everything again. I don’t know what happened to it, but I always wondered…A funny bit of trivia: This is where I first met Nick Brendan’s ex-wife to be, Tressa DiFiglia, who also co-stars in CHANCE. She was in the Sara’s Life movie, too. She’s a very cool gal!
3) I think the actresses who inspire me the most are probably Carole Lombard for her comedic talent, Cate Blanchett for being able to do ANYTHING she wants and Kate Winslet for being a tremendous actor and for looking like a curvy and luscious WOMAN.

Hi Amber
My brain is still sleeping so im going to cheat a little with my question:D
What question have you always wanted to be asked in an interview and how would you answer that question?
[Reply]
Miz Candice Gilmer, how are you today? And yes, the ladies here at BBB are phenom! Here are a few answers to your lovely questions:
1) I loved Remember Me…I think I only read the one follow up, though. Pike has writen a lot of trilogies, but I tend to like the stand alones a little better.
2) I am like energy, both wave and particle at the same time. When I write with others, I ALWAYS outline. You have to or no work will ever get done. When I’m writing on my own, I’ve been pretty good about outlining recently, but sometimes I’m bad and I go pansty! Scripts, I usually go pantsy.
3) I love it short, too. SOOOOOOOO much easier to deal with!

keep up the sweet work amber! Tara lives on forever in you!

You were adorable at Dark Delicacies, Celene!
So glad you came in to say hi and didn’t stay hidden out in the car!
1) What accomplishment am I most proud of…probably of making the film DRONES. I’m really proud of that movie
2) The weirdest thing I’ve ever been asked to sign, hmm? Well, there was a pair of underwear once and then a gal’s arm - which she then had tattooed on permanently. Eeek!
3) I did a women writer’s panel once to benefit the awesome charity 826 LA. It was a blast and I’d do it again in a heart beat.

Thanks for the reply - i’ll make a note to ask showmasters to bring you over again!!! youd be perfect for hallowhedon 2!!

Second question for Sazzy! Does being nice ever backfire? Well, you can’t make everyone happy all the time, so I just try for some of the people some of the time. I’ve never had anyone threaten physical violence for being nice to them, but I have gotten way too many cans of beets after mentioning once that I liked’em. Ahhhhh, so many beets, so little time.

Hi Amber
I’m rsvp #17 and my question is:
What are some of your thoughts regarding death and how do you feel that affected your writing?
[Reply]
This must be Joe A. in the UK!
1) Jeez, the hardest character to write is Callie, probably. She takes up a lot of my energy and she’s got sass mouth!
2) Well, when I think of Jarvis, I totally see my friend, Ashley Artus, who was my co-star in the splendiforous Gryphon film I did for Syfy. I’m always saying Zooey Deschanel for Callie and maybe Carey Mulligan as Clio. Gosh, I love the Brits.
So glad you’re enjoying the books Joe!

Hello, Amber! I loved “Death’s Daughter” and I am looking forward to reading “Cat’s Claw. A question for you. What authors do you enjoy reading? I RSVP’d.
1) Who is your favorite character from the series?
Callie.
2) How would everyone feel if we expanded the initial trilogy into more Callie books?
I would love to see more books about Callie and co.
3) If you could be one of the characters from the books, which one would it be and why?
Callie because she is relatable.
[Reply]
Jami Jo and Trista H., your questions, respectively:
1) Jarvis would so be my bestest buddy and Callie and I would probably bicker all the time - we kinda already do
2) The hardest one to shoot was The Body. Everyone was an emotional wreck those eight days of shooting. Very sad and very rough.
[Reply]
I’m a big fan of all of your work, especially your writing which brought about this cool opportunity!
Did you always plan for the Calliope Reaper-Jones books to be a trilogy or did it happen by accident because your universe got too big? And if you did always plan it that way, was it harder to sell as three books instead of one?
And also, I’d totally read them if there were more than three.
[Reply]
Thanks for your reply–I admire Tom Stoppard too, esp.”The Real Thing,” which has one of my favorite quotes about writing.
Excellent answers on your inspirations. How gorgeous was Carole Lombard? “Godfrey loves me! He put me in the shower!” And I think Kate Winslet is the best actress in the world; I also love her for that second reason you mentioned…
One more question: You say you were asked to sign a piar of underwear? Male or female?

Hey Steven Ragan!
Well, I did write a vampire comic series once called Shadowplay with art by Ben Templesmith, but that and my Tales of The Slayer Comic are the only vampire drive stuff I’ve done. The Shadowplay storyline was about a little boy who joins a vampire gang and if I had to choose a little boy to play the part, that kid from the new parenthood series is super adorable.

Oh, Doh. I forgot to answer YOUR questions.
1) My favorite character from the series is a toss up between Callie herself (how can you not fall in love with the hero in some way) and actually Jarvis. I think they’re both written with the most honesty. I think that’s the common thread between all of your work is how true it is, and that’s what I find I like the most.
2) I guess I answered 2 cause totally
3) If I could be one of the characters I think I’d go with Kali. She seems to have the most fun even when she’s not.
[Reply]
Howdy Dawn M, thanks for answering my questions. Makes me happy that you relate to Callie. She will be heartily pleased when I tell her
I always knew I wanted to act, but the writing and making movies just kind of happened. If I wasn’t able to do the things I love, I would probably be a barista or a snow plow driver for the city of Manhattan!
[Reply]
Thanks for you time and answers! Keep on doing the awesomeness that you do! See ya around the Twitter channel!
[Reply]
To answer Amber’s questions…
Personally, I really enjoy your strange sense of humor and your mixing of different mythologies and would love it if there were more than three books.
1) Who is your favorite character from the series?
My favorite character is Jarvis. I love his sarcastic tendencies, but also underneath, he’s actually incredibly loyal and commited to what he does. Loyalty is just one of those qualities that I hold in high regard
2) How would everyone feel if we expanded the initial trilogy into more Callie books?
I think you’d make a lot of your fans really happy
3) If you could be one of the characters from the books, which one would it be and why?
I would be death’s daughter anyday xD There’s just something very pleasant to me about being neither good nor evil. It’s very balanced and in a way, more just than either of the two extremes.
(btw, I’m rsvp #17 again)

Hey Amber! Thanks so much!!! Your opinion has always meant so much to me, and honestly - the encouragement I received from you and your Mom was definitely key in my getting the first book done and out there! Here’s a writer’s question for you…I have a habit of starting a lot of projects all at once…and currently have three books in the works. Do you work on multiple writing projects at the same time - and if so, how do you divide your time and do justice to all of the projects? It’s driving me absolutely batty!
[Reply]
Hey Romie R!
1) Is there something of personal significance in the Callie books that no one else would know about…hmm, do I wanna share this…yes, I guess I do cause I’m writing it right now!
Callie and I have a lot in common, as far as our journey’s are concerned. She is learning to grow up and be responsible for herself and that’s a quest I’m on, as well. It’s so easy to rely on other people to make all the choices for you and I have to fight that urge on a daily basis.
2) As a writer, I am most confident about my nutty imagination. As a writer, I am most nervous about being a writer, period, and my ability to do the job, period.
you have laid my soul bare….
[Reply]
I concur with C. L. Zastrow. Some times I feel like I’m cheating the other stories because I find something better in one of the stories I’m writing and its not like I can combine them all, and I don’t want to be repetitive in my stories as well. So how do you think that can be worked out?
[Reply]
Nancy Toothaker, you bad gal, you! I would be in Celebrity Rehab for biting my nails. Nasty, nasty habit!
[Reply]
Second question: Is there a reason the sexy bit at the end was cut off? To keep the book a certain ranting or are you just not comfortable writing out the sex scene? I do believe it would have been an attribute to the storyline progress instead of it being there unnecessarily.
I’ve also posted on twitter (same name as above)for my friends to come and ask questions.

Unfortunately, I’ve not read any of your books though I do have book 1. Since I knew Calliope’s story was suppose to be a trilogy, I am actually waiting for all 3 books to be released before starting them. I hate, hate, hate the time between books so collect the whole series(or at least a big chunk of it) before going on a binge. I have heard great things about it thus am not worried about buying the whole series before reading it.
If you were a book, what would YOUR blurb be?

OH! And your questions!
1) Gotta say Clio is probably my favorite because she’s just in the know about everything, but then again, how can you not love Callie sassiness? So I guess that would make it a toss up.
2) I think a CRJ trilogy expansion would be awesome, as long as it wasn’t drawn out like so many series are now. I believe it was CS Lewis that said “Isn’t it better to stop when people are asking for more than to go on till they are tired?” But definitely expansion worthy!!!
3) If I could be a character from the books, I would totally be Jarvis! He may be a little stodgy, but he’s got it in the smarts department, and he can totally kick butt when he has too!
[Reply]
Hi Amber, just got in from work. Sorry I missed you earlier. In answer to your questions:
1. I just started Death’s Daughter( I know…i’m SO far behind), and my fav character so far is Calliope.
2 I’d love to see the series go farther, so long as you feel that you can continue to tell stories in this universe.
3. I can’t pic a character i’d be, since i don’t know them well enough yet.
It was great to meet you, with Anton, at Midtown Comics. The shorter hair is very cute.
Do you have ideas for other series? Or do you just sorta focus on one “universe” at a time?

Life is definitely a journey, and like you, I am still trying to find my path through it. I just keep picking myself up as I trip, dusting the dirt off, and pushing my way through. Making mistakes helps me to learn, and helps me to make better choices, so I’m cool with it.
“you have laid my soul bare” - Thank you for sharing a bit of your soul with us!
Here’s another question - feel free not to answer if you don’t want. I’m sure your brain is probably getting foggy at this point.
Are there any changes that you made to the book, based on comments from your editor that you didn’t agree with, but are now glad that you?

Hiya Becs P (And a re-response to Cindy, too!)
1) How do I find the time to write? Well, because the acting career has made things a bit easier on the financial end, I have a bit more freedom to do the things I want to do. Also, when I work in film and TV, I have a ton of down time in my trailer, so I get a lot of writing done then. But otherwise when I’m writing a book, I try and write anywhere from 1500 to 3000 words a day. That way I stay on track.
2) I do work on multiple projects at once, though I try to only work on one book/script a day. If I’m re-writing then I can let myself work on two projects a day, but only on the edit. My problem isn’t getting my stories mixed up. My problem is not letting what I’m reading influence what I’m writing! Don’t want Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter making its way into Calliope Reaper-Jones land…at least, not by accident!
[Reply]
1) At the risk of sounding as if I don’t love and adore Calliope, I must admit, it’s Kali.
2) That’s like asking if I’d like to continue to draw breath. And by ‘continuing’ Calliope’s tales, I’m all in favor of a comic book, daily radio serial, Saturday morning cartoon, or whatever you’ve got planned.
3) I’d like to be the guy who lives downstairs in Callie’s apartment building, wondering just what in the world that racket in the vestibule was in the opening of the first book.
[Reply]
I do have a question-and-a-half, if I may…
I recall you having said you first pitched this as a single, stand-alone book, but your editor saw its potential as a trilogy. In expanding the original tale to three books, did you find the story taking you in new directions you hadn’t initially expected?
And is there any hope that plans for the GoA comic book might be revived?
Thanks Amber!

1) My friend, Hal Lublin, has a company called buzzbuilderz.com and he basically clued me in to how social networking works. He helped me set up all my accounts and pointed me in the right direction. I try and stay abreast of what’s up and coming, but it can get overwhelming very quickly.
2) As far as ereaders/ebooks go, I’m for them. Anything that keeps people reading is good in my book. (Ha! Pun intended.) I prefer the real things - I’m a spine cracker - but I know somewhere down the line the digital distribution of books will kill my tactile love, so I keep on buying the real deals while I can.

What question have I never been asked, but want to be asked? Wow, that’s a toughie. Hmm…maybe, how many times do you use the word count app in microsoft word, per day? I’m harassing that thing about fifty times a day. I am literally always checking word count. Sometimes I’m like, yay, I wrote more than I thought I did, but usually it’s: boo, I didn’t write nearly as much as I thought I did.

I’m right there with you on the word count app, Amber. Let me tell you - I’m suprised I haven’t worn that one out - especially doing academic/govt. writing! UGH!
Question for you: Whose directing style do you look at as being the “ideal” in the business…if there is such a thing

I dig your question Sally!
“What are some of your thoughts regarding death and how do you feel that affected your writing?”
I think I’ve always been terrified of dying and of the people around me dying. That’s why I’ve sought to anthropomorphosize Death in these books. It makes the whole process a lot less scary, ya know? I love the Afterlife I’ve created in the Callie books. It’s the Afterlife I hope that I get to go to when I die. Does that kind of answer your question? It’s such a big and worthy topic!
[Reply]
Hiya Susan S.!
What authors do I like reading? It’s a long list because I am a bookwhore, but I’ll try and be succinct.
J.K Rowling, Charlaine Harris, Neil Gaiman, Anton Strout, Christopher Golden, Tom Sniegoski, Dostoevsky, Hesse, Jane Austen…
[Reply]
Hey Melissa P!
I had initially just pitched one book, but my editor, Ginjer, felt the story was too big and needed to broken down into more palatable pieces. So, that’s when I came up with my own little homage to Dante’s Divine Comedy by setting each book more or less in Hell, Purgatory and Heaven! This made the whole process a bit easier to deal with because writing three books scared the bejezus outta me
[Reply]
Female, BenVarkentine!
[Reply]
Thanks, Libby L.! I had fun doing the Vlogs, although, I have now let everyone else in on my babbling secret
1) Spend a day in any time period I wanted…? London during the Blitz.
3) Three famous peeps I’d want to throw a dinner party for? Einstein, Joan of Arc and Jack The Ripper - then I’d know who he was!!
[Reply]
Celene R. I did get you confused with your sister! And btw a nice, sweet story. Dug it!
[Reply]
Oh, dorkchops, you gotta wait for the third book!
[Reply]
Holy crap you got a great memory! yep Im from Oz but cant blame the time for my sleepiness its midday here
Silly question maybe but I thought it was great since silly fits my
Plus now you have given me an excuse to ask some more silly questions
mood
(1) What is one thing you could tell us about yourself that people would be shocked to know?
(2)If given the choice would you travel forward in time or backwards and why?
(3)How would you describe your self in 3 words?
[Reply]
What’s your favorite Angela Correa / Correatown song?
[Reply]
Hey Lisa Richards, I think it’s so cool that you have the werewithal to wait! I’m a total dork who has no patience. I read one book I like and then have to wait. Ugh. Drives me nutz!
My own blurb, huh?
Amber Benson tries too hard to make everyone happy. She is learning to relax, but knows that it’s an ongoing process.

Thank you for answering my question Amber
That was a very interesting answer
And thank you for taking the time to be here with us today. I’m sure you must be speeding on the road to braindead-ness if not there already with all the questions we’re asking you xD
Also, you must bring Cat’s Claw over to San Francisco! Since went to SF for Death’s Daughter I keep hoping that you’ll add it to the list of tours but alas, it hasn’t happened
Any chance that it might happen?
[Reply]
hey amber its alicia fearn again…my question is When naming your characters, do you give any thought to the actual meaning?
[Reply]
I dislike you very much right now, this is going to drive me batty for a whole year! I guess it’s what I get for reading CC in two days.
What food(s) (junk included) go well with writing? And describe your writing space?
[Reply]
Hey Scott Romanski! I have tons of ideas. I just need the time to write’em all
I’m actually working on a middle grade book called, Among The Ghosts, and then I have some ideas for some Lovecraft inspired Urban Fantasy!
[Reply]
Very cool Amber. Can’t wait to read more.
[Reply]
Gene Popa, you just made me laugh out loud. I gotta give Callie a neighbor named Gene now.
[Reply]
Romie R. My editor, Ginjer, and I have been pretty much on the same page. Occasionally, she cuts some words I love, but in the end I know she’s right. We have to be able to kill all our little darlings!
[Reply]
Bree W. I would love to bring DRONES down south!
[Reply]
Urban fantasy inspired by the works of H.P. Lovecraft???!!! That would be absolutely fantastic! I hope you get started on that soon (in your spare time!)…hehehe!

2) The director I look up to most is either Mike Leigh or Quentin Tarantino.

[Reply]
Hiya, Amber, you are the bestest! I hope I didn’t wait too long to get in on this chat. I was at the Cat’s Claw signing in NY (I was the creepster with the hat) and meeting you was so so so great! Of all the times I’ve waited an hour and a half to meet someone for five seconds, you really made it worth it more than ever before.
My question is how old were you when you started writing? Is it something you’ve been doing forever or something you suddenly started one day later in life?
I’m also wondering…it seems like you’ve always been recognized as Tara more than anything else. I mean whenever you do something like this, Buffy questions start popping up. Does that bother you at all that you’ll always be her or do you enjoy it? (Yikes, sorry if that was a rude/invasive question, I totally don’t mean it that way.)
Your questions:
1. Jarvis. I feel I can relate to him since he seems pretty frustrated most of the time and I know what it’s like to be a little on the short side.
2. DO IT. I hate it when good stories end too soon.
3. I’ll be honest, I’m only halfway through Death’s Daughter right now (slooow reader) and I want to see what other awesome characters pop up before I pick one for myself.
(and I RSVP’d yesterday)
Thanks beyond words for talking with us today! YOU ARE THE BOMB.
[Reply]
More for Gene Popa!
1) Yes, after the story got sorted into three chunks, I did find that what I had imagined the through line to be, changed a bit. It went in a different direction than I had expected, especially concerning the third book. but I won’t give too much away!
2) Chris Golden and I are actually talking to some peeps right now about reviving GOA in novel form and comic book form!
[Reply]
Yes we do !
Sometimes it just makes a good storyline ! And sometimes it’s just downright fun to do!
Thanks for letting us all pummel your brain for answers today. It was a lot of fun. Well, not the pummeling so much, lol, but listening to your responses.
Have a fantastic evening, thanks for sharing your time with us…and see you at the Boston Comic Con!
[Reply]
Thanks for visiting with all of us on here, Amber! Keep up the great work - and have a wonderful night!

Hiya Denise Vega! I’ve always written, but never thought I could do a whole book! I would write sad, little gothic poetry - was slightly obsessed with Sylvia Plath and villanelles - and strange short stories. So, I guess, I;ve always wanted to write. It was just getting confidence to actually do it as an adult

3) Describe myself in 3 words: I’m a dork. (do contractions count?)
[Reply]
Bree W That answer has to be Nightlight from Correatown.
[Reply]
I know you stated that you listen to Correatown and scores while you write, are there any other bands that are good to write to?
[Reply]
Talking of an afterlife…have you seen the film Wristcutters: A Love Story? v. thoughful and evocative.
[Reply]
Sally P, Alicia F. and Dorkchops, your answers, respectively! Actually, in alphabetical order!
Alicia F. All the names have meaning, if not historical or mythological then personal.
Like the three sisters Callie, Clio and Thalia are all named after the muses!
Dorkchops: like to write in coffeeshops, especially ones with pumpkin tarts. That really gets my mojo going. And I have to have lots of coffee or tea. That’s the integral part.
Sally P. I wanna come to San Fran, but no one invited me
I love San Fran!!
[Reply]
well bugger I didn’t think you could ever gross me out but I was wrong the worm thing is well really gross and im not even tempted to ask you to elaborate on how that came about
[Reply]
Amber, how cool of you to do this!
I’ve admired you as an actor, a writer, a producer and director(Chance), but most of all as a dancer! When do we get another performance ala “The Macarena”?
Also really appreciated your appearance at Buffyfest in San Diego several years ago, and you were very friendly and gracious even after hours of greeting fans. Thank you so much!
[Reply]
i love reading in the tub…i wud read in the tub for so long back home that my mom wud put a time limit on how long i cud stay in there haha
[Reply]
Ok ok, so I lied, I am posting another question. BUT it’s all your fault bringing up the dark writing, Sylvia Plathy stuff.
I pose another question.
Do you ever write something so dark, or so well, that you surprise yourself?
[Reply]
Carissa D I wrote a lot of bad poetry growing up. So, I guess I’ve always been a writer. I just like to express what’s in my head, ya know? And I wnat to make people laugh. That makes me happy.
I don’t mind people asking Buffy stuff. If that’s what it takes to ensnare them in the Callie books then bring on the Aly kissing questions galore!
I know what it’s like to be at the end of the line. I just want everyone to have a good experience.
[Reply]
do u think u wud ever come to canada to do a book tour…perperably the maritime provinces
[Reply]
Bree W, BenVarkentine - in reverse alphabetical order!
Bree - Arv Part’s Te Deum is a fav, as well as Wilco and The White Stripes.
BenVarkentine - Saw that movie, loved what it was going for. Weirdly reminded me of a movie I love called SIX STRING SAMURAI. Has the same atmosphere.
[Reply]
I agree with Alicia, if I had money I’d fly you to Newfoundland for a book reading party!
[Reply]
Howdy Art Diggins! Well, if I get 200 reviews on Amazon for Cat’s Claw I will do a spoof of Under Your Spell. And boy, do I have some fun things planned if it comes to pass!

Have you ever started a project (film, books, directing, etc) that you thought looked good and then later you regretted?
[Reply]
Amber, great answers!! I love ‘em (& reading all the comments!) thanks for answering my questions
London during the Blitz — interesting choice!!! No one has ever picked that. I love movies set in London during that time. (I want to live in London! I’m obsessed)
haha!! Jack the Ripper! Nice answer! I saw this documentary recently about how he broke free from an insane asylum & came over HERE after that last murder. Then he eventually went back there & checked back into that Home. He knew things that were rather suspicious. I forget what channel it was on!! National Geo? History? One of those!
Nothing wrong with babbling, btw! My friends have dubbed me the queen of it. There really should be a support group for rambling! Haha! I say, “umm” & “anyways” a lot. A LOT! Especially on voicemail mags!
thanks for stopping by!!!!
[Reply]
haha nicee thanks a lot for answering. it’s really awesome that you do this. i’m gonna start cats claw tomorrow so i plan on hiding it in all my textbooks and notebooks in school so i can just read it all day. ha cant wait. thanks for being a freakin amazing person XD

It only scares you if you forget its just a part of you , not the whole of you. At least thats what I tell myself when I write, and freak myself out.
Are you going to write a book in the future to express those dark undertones ?
Remember …this barrage of questions is your fault! You brought up the dark!
[Reply]
Hi again, Miss Benson.
I’m a big Dostoyevsky fan as well. What is your favorite work by him? Also I was wondering what is the best piece of advice you could give someone on life in general.
[Reply]
do u listen to music wen writing n if so do u listen to diff types of music for diff type of scenes

Gonna grab dinner, but I’ll be back to answer questions again. Promise! Tummy growling is out of control
[Reply]
hey i have another question amber…wat is the most embarassing thing that happened to u behind the scenes on set?
[Reply]
By all means grab you some eats! Here’s yet another question to compile on my pile. Hmmm… that sounded odd. Anyway! I’ve done musical theater for a long time in Georgia and we had to always do trust exercises, depending on the project, have you had to do those on any projects?
[Reply]
lol i just ate…we ordered pizza and garlic fingers mmm haha
[Reply]
I’m nearing the end of my break at work and sadly did not get to finish reading the new comments that have come up since before i started buuuut…
OMG i’m SO glad you read my story and LIKED IT!!! EeeeK!!! hehe
Before i go back to work I just wanted to let you know that you are an inspiration to me. Whenever anyone asks me who my favorite actress is I always answer “Amber Benson” and don’t mind at all when I have to explain who you are and why you’re my favorite. I admire all you’ve done and have accomplished. I hope to one day have a book published as well and do all I love to do (music, write, and be an awesome psychologist)
<3,
Celene R.
[Reply]
And so you won’t be bored when you get back from dinner - hope you had something yummy - I’ll relentlessly pummel you with more questions in your absence.
This kind of goes with my question above - (are you going to write a book to express those dark undertones? ) Do you think you will ever tap into that side of writing ? Or is it something you aren’t interested in pursuing?
[Reply]
Hi Amber!!! So glad you could stop by, and I really enjoyed the vlogs. I do hit solely in the ‘I loved you in Buffy, so I think I’ll give your book a try.’ Well, I loved Death’s Daughter, and I hope there are much more than just 3 books in the series. I think Calliope has quite a few adventures in her. plus, I hope we get to see a bit more of our favorite hell pup…always cute and useful to have around.
If I could be any character, I think I’d go with Kali….gorgeous, powerful, and immortal…I could live with that.
Question for you: You mentioned your love of directing. Do you have any projects currently in the works?
I have to agree that the musical & Hush are the best BUffy episodes. Even my Dad loves Hush. If I happen to be home for a visit, he’ll mention it. WHo were those monsters on Buffy with the eerie smile and floated. They were great. Dad & I have a love for Scifi movies both good & bad.
PS - No worries about the dating yourself I had the Babysisters club & Christopher Pike.
[Reply]
Thanks for that, I totally don’t mind the waiting if everyone gets a good chance to chat with you.
BTW (sorry for not shutting up) I don’t remember how I came across this one but I saw One Eyed Monster a few months ago. Hilarious and horrifying in more ways than one. Now THAT looked like a fun movie to make.
[Reply]
Just wanted to say that everyone has had some great questions and I am super impressed over how nice Amber is to her fans! I love the vlogs and can’t wait to read Cat’s Claw! It is definitely on my official “Things to do over Spring Break” list.
[Reply]
Wow it’s a bit late, but I just wanted to stop by and say hi Amber! I had a blast seeing you at your NY signing, I’m sure I babbled my head off.
I have a really weird question. I was interested in knowing what your thoughts on the covers of the books. I’m not sure what happens when it comes to book covers so I was just curious because the design of them really stands out when I put them together with a lot of other books that I’ve read.

Hi Amber,
I’m a big Buffy fan
Some of my fav books growing up were Enid Blyton’s Enchanted Woods and Wishing Chair series and Beverly Clearly’s Henry Huggins!
I have a question for you : Of all the books that have been written, which book(s) apart from the Harry Potter series do you wish you’d written and why?
Thanks.
I RSVPed.

Hey Bree W.! I don’t think there’s anything I’ve done that I regret, but there’s lots of stuff I’ve started and never finished. I have a whole folder of half started books and movie scripts that seemed really promising when I started them, but never really took off.

Hey Romie R. I’m actually working on something in the darker vein as we speak. It’s a ghost story, but a very dark and sad one.

Hey Lili D! I can’t tell you how many books I’ve read-that I’d never heard of before-because of the cover. My favorite story is finding a copy of Flaubert’s ‘A Sentimental Education’ and falling a little in love with the painting of the man on the cover. I bought the thing and loved the book, but I CHERISHED the cover.
Wait! Found it. Here is said cover: http://tinyurl.com/ykct6wv
I love the covers of the Callie books. The colors are fantastic, the animals rawk, I think they’re a lot of fun

Howdy Steph M! I have a soft spot for Jarvis. I’ve been known to get all uptight and bossy on occasion myself, so I know what a cross that can be to bear.

More for Beverly G!
I would like to write straight literature, but just the idea is daunting! I don’t know why I love mythology so much. I like stories - and myths are the ultimate stories that we, as human beings, tell ourselves in order to explain the unexplainable. I guess that’s the draw for me.

As for a second question… I was wondering if you could choose your dream cast for a live action movie based on your trilogy, who would you want to play the main characters?
