Release Party, Sony eReader Contest and Chat with Author Moira Rogers
PLEASE NOTE: This contest and the comments on this post are now CLOSED, the winners will be chosen at a later date and contacted via email.
Bree: Hello, Bitten by Books readers! My name is Bree, and I’m one half of the wacky writing duo behind Moira Rogers.
Donna: And I’m Donna! (I’m not wacky, by the way.)
Bree: She’s lying. I think we’re both a little wacky, but I think you need to be to spend you’re days writing books with your best friend.
Donna: Without the wacky, two people trying to weave their words together to create a coherent book? I shudder to think…
Bree: But that’s what we do! And this time we wove our words together to create a sequel!
Donna: It went without saying, I think, that we’d continue with the Southern Arcana series. This universe is one of our favorites, and we just love these characters.
Bree: In Crux we got to explore a cougar shapeshifter’s forbidden love with a wizard. In Crossroads we’ve got forbidden love of a different kind–the princess and the man her family can never, ever approve of.
Donna: Luckily for our hero, Nicole Peyton has never let anything like society’s approval–or lack thereof–stand in her way.
Bree: Derek’s all too ready to take on the rules of society to get his hands on the woman of his dreams, but there are some things that are harder to sacrifice–like friends. And family.
Donna: It’s a lot easier to say, “Forget it!” and run off if you have only yourself to worry about. But that’s rarely the case in real life, and certainly not for our hero and heroine.
Bree: Throughout the book, Derek and Nicole constantly find themselves facing that ultimate question: who and what would you sacrifice for love. If you read Crossroads you’ll find out their answer, but now we want to know yours! What is the craziest thing you have (or would!) do for love?

Hello! I didn’t get my email about this until today but I would have RSVPed!
to answer your question about what crazy thing I would do for love…well when I married my husband it was with out any ones approval on my side of the family and his! Well except his Dad. They said we were not ready, the marriage would not last bla bla. When we got married with only his Dad there, they said, she must be pregnant. (you know the story lol) well 2 and a half years later I had our daughter! We have been married for thirty two and a half years now! So to answer your question I was willing to give up my whole family for him! Crazy huh? nope not in the least!
You two sound like you have a blast together! I can’t wait to pick up your books. Sorry to say I have not read the first one yet. My question is do they need to be read in order? or does it matter?
Pam B
Hi Bree & Donna! Great to have you here at BBB. I’ve visited your blog before and love the design. Two Questions:
1) What was the first project you two co-wrote?
2) If you could date one of your heroes, who would he be & what would you do?

When I first read this comment by Bree - ‘In Crux we got to explore a cougar shapeshifter’s forbidden love with a wizard.’, I read it too fast and thought it said forbidden love with a lizard and I thought, um, ok, to each his own…lol
I have not read either book, but many authors on Twitter have been talking about Crux.
Who came up with the idea for the books; and how did the two of you get started as a writing team?
Hi Bree and Donna! Thanks for being here with us today! I haven’t read any of your books yet, but they are on my tbr list! The craziest thing I’ve done for love? I almost moved across country away from all my friends and family, but it wasn’t the right guy, so thankfully I didn’t do.
For someone who hasn’t read any of your books, what would you recommend them starting with?
Who are your favorite authors?
Thanks again!
I don’t do crazy things, really. I guess the craziest thing I’ve done for love is move to a new town with no job.
True love conquers all in the story, I’m hoping. Doesn’t it?
How do you manage to stay best friends? I think I would have to kill anyone I had to work together with that much.
I RSVPd by the way.
Hi Bree & Donna- congrats on your release.
My questions are:
1. How many books are planned in the Southern Arcana series?
2. How did you become friends? Did you go to school together?

Hi Bree! Hi Donna! Thanks for being here @ BBB! Moira Rogers sounds like a great series. I can’t wait to start reading it:o) I love the covers too! Wow what a great contest you gals are having. Hmmm the craziest thing I did do for love…well it’s not too crazy but I moved to another state for him and we have been together for 10 years! So maybe not crazy but it does have a happy ending:o) What inspires you both to write? Why this genre?
Thanks!

Hi Ladies!
I’m very curious about co-writers, who writes what? I’m sure that’s a question you get often but it’s perplexing as each person has their own writing style and to meld it is really interesting! Also, how are you deciding who to hook up with whom? I saw a shapeshifter and wizard combo–sounds very left field but it makes me want to see what happens, lol.
The craziest thing I would do for love… drop everything (or as much as I can) to go to them if they need me. I’ve been woken at 3am before and had to drive another 2 to pick someone up because they were stranded. That was, umm, fun.

Hello! I RSVPed, already a BBB newsletter girl.
What is the hardest thing about working on a novel together? How do you handle creative differences?
As for the craziest thing I’d do for love? I think I’m doing it right now but I’d better not post it in a public forum! Let’s just say that true love and soul mates actually do exist.
Hi Bree and Donna! I love the Southern Arcana series, and the characters that you guys have created there. I hope you have a very long and successful run with this one, because I just can’t get enough of them. I reread Crux to reacquaint myself with the characters and locale of Crossroads, and I really loved both books. My question for y’all is do you ever have a difference of opinion on what will happen to any given character(s) and how do you resolve it?
I did RSVP, I am a subscriber and I sent this announcement via email.
Thank you for being here!
I would like to know if writing together is difficult - creative differences?
How do you come up with “mutual” ideas?
I have a copy of Crux but it’s in my “to read” stack.
Wishing you continued success.

Hey Bree & Donna! I RSVP’d! I’m so excited to read Crossroads! How many more books should we expect for this series? I’m planning to read Crossroads this weekend! Woohoo!
I’m not POSITIVE that I rsvp’d but I’m pretty sure I did. I added her on myspace, joined the group in facebook, and followed both twitters. And retweeted your post about this.
1-How do you stay focused on the project your working on? I get side tracked all the time and I have no idea how to stop. :/
2-Does your character remind you of someone you know? Or yourself, or is she just like an alterego almost?
-Morgan N.
What would/have I sacrifice(d) for love? Um… not sure. The romantic in me wants to say anything, but in the real world it’s not likely that would be necessary. When I met my husband I was with someone else at the time - so I guess I could say I gave up “that guy” for the chance at love - but obviously since I ended it, I wasn’t too sad to see him go. 10 years later and I’m still crazy about my boy so I think it was a good sacrifice.
When you’re writing together, are there any particular scenes that you have trouble agreeing on? Do you each have different favorite characters or do you mostly agree where characters are concerned?
4 - I’m signed up for newsletter (I also rsvpd)
Jim B I follow on Twitter and RSVP’d.
Read more books then I want to say, but only a very few paranormal and don’t know why. So tell me what will hook me to your books? What hooked you in writting them…thanks jim.

@Pam Briz: What an awesome story! Congratulations on your thirty-two years!
For this series, it’s not imperative to read Crux first, but it’s probably better. We do a lot of stuff that spans several books.
@Lauren D: Thanks a bunch! The first thing we started writing was Crux. It wasn’t the first thing we published or finished, but it was the book that started it all.
And…I’m not sure I’d date any of the Southern Arcana guys (I’m a little too used to imagining them with their heroines), but I wouild totally hang out at Nick Peyton’s bar and have beers with all of them.
@Elaine R: No, no lizard sex! LOL
We both brainstorm ideas for storylines and characters, so it’s truly a team effort. As for how we got started together, we were doing a lot of plotting together anyway, so it seemed like the next logical step. We’ve since learned it’s not a logical step at all, but it works for us.
@Amanda Leigh: If you like short, hot stuff, the Last Call series is a good place to start. Kamikaze is the first title in that series. But if you enjoy longer stuff, heavier on the plot, try Crux or Cry Sanctuary.
My favorite authors vary so much. I will always love Stephen King, and right now I’m enjoying Kat Richardson and Ann Aguirre. I know Bree has glommed everything Nalini Singh has ever written, and her go-to favorites are Kelley Armstrong and Anne Bishop.
@Carol E: True love will always conquer all in our books, don’t worry. It may be a hard road, but all ends well.
Bree and I yell at each other sometimes, but I think getting it out of our systems is key. We can’t let stuff pile up and feed resentment. Otherwise…I don’t know. LOL It’s not really hard!
@Maria D: Thanks! We just contracted the third book in the series (Alec’s book), and we have firm plot arcs up to book seven–we like to plan ahead. LOL
Bree and I met on a fansite and bonded over our shared love of Hugh Jackman’s tight jeans and ridiculous belt buckle in the first X-Men movie.
@Shirley H: There’s no snow here in Alabama yet, but who knows about this weekend? Stay warm!
Like I said, Bree and I are geeky fangirls who met online. You never know what kind of people you can connect with over shared interests! And we make it work by following Tim Gunn’s advice–we just MAKE IT WORK. LOL
@SeriouslyKooky: To answer your first question, Bree says she would cry, and I believe it. And to answer your second, Bree’s worst habit when writing is making me add all the commas because I know where they should go.
@Viki S: Bree and I both wanted to write, but we found that we worked better with some built-in motivation. We’d already been plotting and brainstorming together, so we took the plunge and tried writing together too.
Hmmm, the craziest thing I’d do for love? Well since when I sing, I sound like a cross between a parrot and a hyena, I’d do a Karaoke at the Olympics to show him how much I love him. Granted, he’d pretend he didn’t know me and hide beneath the bleechers, I know he’d never forget that moment…ever! LOL
Great blog. Do you find it difficult to make a plot work with two authors or is it better to have two different voices?
Hugs
Franny Armstrong-ParaNovelGirl
Hi Bree and Donna!
Glad to know only half the team is wacky, lol!! I personally enjoy the wackness!

Thank you Bree and Donna for stopping by today. I am so excited for Crossroads. I loved Nick’s character in Crux and I am so excited to see Derek again. I am hoping we get some more glimpses of Mackenzie and Jackson though.
Since you are a writing team my question is - Choose a character that would switch places with your partner for the day? One that you would have to spend the entire day with.
1) Buying it as we type
3) Twitter follow both Bree and Donna
4) NL member
5) Twittered the event.
RSVP’d for event.
I bought the book Crossroads and sent my receipt to the Prize Goddess! LOL!
@Lynette: I’m not sure how we first decided that we needed to collaborate! We’ve been friends a lot longer than we’ve been co-writers, so we knew we enjoyed the same types of books and stories, so I suppose we just sort of fell into it!
As for how the process works, we divy up the characters and each develop a personality & backstory, then make all the final decisions for that character. That way, hopefully, we keep them consistant!
@Sewicked: We do a bit of both. We outline the main points of the book, but then we usually fly the seat of our pants a little and readjust the outline as we go. We love plans, but we have to be flexible, sometimes, too!
The craziest things that we do or don’t do often involve who gets to live and die.
Sometimes people get blown up…and sometimes they get a stay of execution!
@Tinab: Which story we write next often depends on our deadlines and what is due. Our contracts have more say than we do!
As for cover art, we get to fill out a form with our ideas and inspiration and hopes, and then we usually get to give our opinion on a mock-up. Final say always goes to the editor, art-department and publisher, though!
@Danielle Yockman: My favorite book so far… well, let’s see… my favorite long novel is Crossroads. My favorite shorter work is probably Sexual Healing, a little futuristic story we did about psychics.
@Brenda B. Hill: I think Donna has answered this, but we met online over a shared love of Hugh Jackman and eventually became best friends in real life. As for the writing, well… we just sort of fell into it and found out we really enjoyed it!
Our story ideas come from everywhere. Things we’ve seen, dreams, “what if”s… it’s hard to pick just one because sometimes it can be all three! Or none of the above!
@Fedora: We only write as Moira Rogers. I know people get confused sometimes by our three names, but Donna & Bree are our real names and what we like to go by. It seems more personal than people not knowing which one of us they’re talking to!
As for celebration…we celebrate almost everything in our lives with guacamole.
Sometimes we have champagne too, which goes not well at all with guacamole, but that doesn’t stop us.
@Steph M: Both of your questions fit well together. I think what inspires us to write is the chance to write about all the “what ifs” of the supernatural world. What if your tech support girl was a werewolf or your neighbor was a psychic or demons invaded the earth or computers took over or, or, or… (You get the picture!)
@Biki: Donna and I have always had similar writing styles, so they took surprisingly little meshing. As for who writes what…well, it’s hard to answer because we really do write in and out of each other’s paragraphs and even sentences. Every page has both of us on it, and (I hope) it’s impossible to tell where!
Hi, Donna and Bree! Who are some of your favorite authors in the genre?
RSVPd.
Added Moira at all venues.
Already a BBB newsletter subscriber.
@Jackie Burris: Thanks, Jackie! Bree and I write mostly during the evenings or at night, though we can be found trading manuscripts back and forth at pretty much any time.
Actually, the hardest part of writing is…not writing at all. There’s a lot of background work that goes along with being published, and sometimes it’s a little overwhelming. LOL
@Mindy S: The hardest thing about working on a novel together is making sure we’re on the same page when it comes to character development and plot. And our creative differences are solved by two things–guacamole, and throwing Cheez-Its at each other while we yell.
@Nancy Gilliland: Thanks, lady! It’s great to hear that!
Each character is the sole responsibility of just one of us. That means we develop background, quirks, everything. The plot stuff is always a joint venture, but if something is just too horrible to happen to one of our characters, we’ll speak up. LOL
@Rena Sue: Thanks! Bree and I like to say there’s no creative difference that can’t be solved–eventually and somehow. You just have to want to be doing what you’re doing badly enough, and everything else works out.
As for ideas, we brainstorm A LOT and talk it all out. You’d better believe our phones have unlimited minutes! I like to chat with Bree about plot stuff while I’m grocery shopping.
@Sherry: Hi! Thanks for coming, and we hope you enjoy Crossroads! We’ve just contracted Deadlock, the third book in the series, and are working on developing the fourth one, as well. Hopefully, there will be many, many more books in the Southern Arcana universe.
@Morgan Nicole: It’s hard to stay focused, yes. Sometimes we just want to stop working on our current stuff and run off with that shiny new idea that suddenly came to us. But our editor would murder us, so we keep writing. LOL
There are little bits of myself in every character I write, but they’re never really very much like me. I imagine that would be sort of weird, maybe even scary. I have to spend a lot of time psychoanalyzing my characters, so I don’t really want to turn that camera on myself all the time.
@Stephanie S: We definitely have different favorite characters, because we like different things about them. And there are certainly times when we can’t agree on where a scene should go–usually, that tells us we need to go back and examine what we’re trying to do and decide whether we’re taking the best approach. Most of the time, we can’t agree because we need to be writing something entirely different.
@Jim: Two words, sir–magical pants. Magical. Pants.
Seriously, we’re hooked on this universe because, for these characters, life can be dangerous and sad, but they never lose their sense of humor.
Bree - So glad to hear we have more books to look forward to in this series! Maybe you can do as many books or more then J.D. Robb has for the In Death series? I don’t want that one to ever end! And the books still keep me glued each time so I say lets go for 20 plus books in the series!
@Jeanette Juan: We get to give our ideas and input for all of our covers, but usually we don’t have any part in creating them. The only exceptions are Sexual Healing (which I created) and the covers for our free reads. I do all of our freebie covers, and I love doing it!
@Fanny Armstrong: It can be hard to make sure we both have the same plot in mind, but I think it helps because at least we often notice plot holes!
I do think our voices help too. We each write either the hero or heroine, so we keep that character’s voice consistent but distinct.
@Dottie: I think Donna has answered how we started writing together, but as for your second question–no, we do not always agree on where it should go! We decide by talking it out until we do agree, however. We have one rule: no one gets to overrule the other person. Getting to agreement can be hard, but it’s worth it!
As for our future plans, we have a whole lot of Southern Arcana books to write, and a few ideas in different universes. We have more ideas than we do time!
@Marnie: If I had to hang with one of our characters for the day, I’d pick Nicole. She knows all the fun places to go and is pretty cool. Donna says she’d like to hang out with Derek so he could teach her how to cook!
@Jennifer: Donna’s favorite romance authors include Elizabeth Lowell, Kay Hooper and Ava Gray. A few of mine are Meljean Brook, Nalini Singh and Ava Gray. And if I venture more toward urban fantasy I love Patricia Briggs, Kelley Armstrong, Ann Aguirre and Keith Melton.
What a lovely contest. I don’t know what I would do for love….maybe move. Which is a HUGE deal because I don’t like being far from home for very long.
Oh, and I follow Moira and Donna on twitter: @shootingstarmag for both
I have two questions for you all though today:
1. What songs would you put on your main character’s soundtrack/or the book soundtrack in general? Whatever songs really give resonance to the book!!
2. If you could write a book that took place in another country, what would you pick and why??

By the way, I think that wacky is great.
The craziest thing I did for love was run away and get married when I was 15. I wasn’t pregnant, my first child was born when I was 17. It was 40 years for us last June.

Hi,
Love the contest and I know exactly what book I’d want if I won one. The Red Rock Pass books have been on my wish list for a while now. Love your writing.
Here’s my questions. Hope nobody else asked already.
What kind of music do you think about or listen to while you are writing?
Is it different kinds of music for different series?
I RSVP’d for this event
3. am signed up for the Yahoo newsletter-what kind of confirmation do you need?
4. done
Jim B sounds like a good reasons both. Thanks I’ll give the series a shot.
I thought that Moira Rogers was one author because everything that I’ve read speaks as though it’s not a team. Is that the way you like it? Also, how do you decide who writes what?
I RSVP’d.
I am friends with Moira on Yahoo for newsletter, MySpace and Facebook fan. I don’t know what confirmations you need to show I am at them. Let me know so I may receive the 75 extra entries.
I just love your Last Call Series. Will there be many more coming and when is the next one due?
Also will the Sanctuary Series have books about other creatures? Panthers? Leopards?
Thanks for entering me.
Hi Bree and Donna. How cool it is that you can collaborate so well to create such wonderful books. My questions are:
What is the weirdest/funniest question have you received from a fan?
If you could take a dream vacation, where would you go?

What is the craziest thing you have (or would!) do for love?
But I’m not a guy. BUT, I might end up moving to the desert for love if my fiance can’t get a job in my beautiful northwest. The desert and I really don’t get along, so it would be a big sacrifice for me. What with the pale skin and horribly dry air and heatstroke-inducing weather (with my thick blood, it’s easy to be overheated, and when it’s 120 degrees indoors because no one got the air conditioning fixed before you visited, yeah, it makes me afraid that the desert will kill me; at least I don’t have to worry about “surviving” based on heat/cold where I am. You can always put on more jackets, but you can’t take off more clothes than naked). It’s really depressing and has no green trees like mine, so that would be crazy for my mind and body for love.
There are many things I’m sure, but if someone was trying to attack or hurt my love, I’d be willing to protect them by all means necessary, which I guess could be considered crazy, if you are afraid of self-defense consequences. A lot of guys will drive long distances for “love”, which is more than is usually expected.
I like the big cat weres.
Hi, “Moira”! I know where commas usually go, too. Yay for fangirls and guacamole. Cool that you’ve done some of your own covers.

Since I have to agree that guacamole is absolutely delicious, celebrating with guac seems rather appropriate! And really, it goes with more things than one might initially imagine
And thanks–it’s good to know that I only have to look for books by Moira, while knowing that the two real (wacky? ;)) minds behind her are Bree and Donna! Very glad there’s much more to come from both of you!
What would I give up for love? Like others have said, I almost gave up my family. My father did not approve of who I married… at first. But he soon realized that he was a good man who loved me and loved my child like his own. Right now we are dealing with the possibility of having to move if my husband loses his job. I would give up my friends, my family and my comfort to go wherever my husband needs to go. When you love someone and they love you, it’s not always easy, but it’s worth it. I seem to be saying that a lot lately. LOL

Wow. You guys are rocking it and as usual I may live in the future but I’m always late to the party. *sigh*
@ShootingStarsMag: Ooh, soundtracks. Good question. We do one for every one of our characters, and the Southern Arcana series has one of its own. You can see Nick and Derek’s lists at a recent blog post here: http://moirarogers.com/blog/archives/1893
And I’d like to write books set just about anywhere, given the opportunity to do adequate research and have a situation/plot that fits the characters.
@Sharon Manning-Lew: I think race and class issues can be a big part of a lot of paranormal romances, for sure. They’re not usually the same issues we’re used to facing in the real world, but there’s a definite element of adversity and prejudice involved, just the same.
@Andrea I: Bree and I were both voracious readers. In the absence of anything else, I’d read cereal boxes. Once, we visited my grandparents for a few days and I forgot to pack books. I ended up reading my grandmother’s encyclopedias.
@Sharon K: Hmm. There are a lot of different reasons why a book could be hard to write, and it usually has to do with the way things are flowing. Crossroads was a challenge, because we had to find a way to balance some serious, life-threatening stuff going on with the delicate development of a fledgling romance. It was tough sometimes.
@Beth C: Thanks! We do iTunes playlists for shorter books and separate playlists for each character in longer stuff. Sometimes it’s what we were listening to when we started thinking about the character or plot, and sometimes it’s as simple as, “Nicole really likes Led Zeppelin.” If you’re curious about the leads in Crossroads, you can visit the blog link above to read about Nick and Derek and their songs in particular.
@Jim: I hope you enjoy reading about the magical pants as much as we enjoyed writing about them! LOL
@Leni K: Bree and I both used to work at Barnes & Noble, and we’ve seen how multiple names on a book can sometimes cause confusion. We wanted to avoid that, so we chose a single pen name. We’ve never particularly tried to hide the fact that there are two of us, but it’s rarely helpful to correct people who assume otherwise. LOL People always find out eventually!
And we decide who writes what because we each are in charge of a single character–all their thoughts, actions, development, background. It cuts down on disagreements about what a character would think/do/say, because hey. One of us is the undisputed expert.
@Gayle O: Thanks! The Last Call series in its original incarnation has pretty much run its course. There’s a spinoff series called Last Call: Europe that features other Changeling Press writers exploring some of the same themes with their own twists and perspectives, though!
As of right now, we have no plans to explore creatures besides werewolves, wizards, and vampires in the Sanctuary series. I’m pretty sure those are the only supernatural creatures that exist in that universe–PRETTY SURE. Not positive, because I have been known to be mistaken about that.
Hi Ladies,
Very glad that you are here with us today, and that we get to learn more about you. The craziest thing at this point in my life that I would do for love, is move away from family and friends to be with the person I love. That would be crazy for me, because my family and I are very close and I couldn’t imagine not being near them.
I can’t wait to read Crossroads, it seems very interesting.

Moira, I have always been fascinated by writing teams. How do you make it work? Does one dictate while the other types or do you take turns depending on who has the best idea at the time? Hopefully there would be less writer’s block with two heads on the job!
I already receive the BBB newsletter. I have joined as a fan. so I will send my confirmation to the correct e-mal. Thanks for taking the time to share some info about your books! I haven’t read any of them but they sound like my kind of fun. Thank you for the great prizes in the contest as well!
Hi ladies!!! I can’t think of anything crazy that I’ve done for love. I’ve done a lot of ‘Well, it makes you happy, and its not my favorite thing in the whole world, but I’ll go along.’
So, if the 2 of you come to a point in the book that you have different opinions on the direction of the story, how do you settle it? Rock-paper-scissors? Arm wrestling?
2. I’m curious as to how you work when you write together and if it’s always the same way (some co authors switch off chapters, others do sections or something else) or things change over time/books? (and I don’t think that’s a terribly clear question
Sorry.

@Crystal: Weirdest or funniest question, huh? You know, we don’t get that many that are weird! (Except for questions prompted by funny conversations on twitter…and really, we bring those on ourselves. LOL)
I think the question that always makes me laugh is when people ask us which of us writes the girls and which writes the boys. It’s not really a funny question–it’s a smart one! But it’s funny to me because I had never even considered it! (To answer…we both write both! :p)
My dream vacation would be to go back to Austria. I lived there for a year when I was a teenager and I’d love to go there again and take my husband to all the places I ran wild as a 16 year old!
@Fedora: I agree. There is very little that guacamole doesn’t go with in the long run. I’m going to tell my husband to quit complaining.
@Kealie: Awww, good luck with the job situation! I know it’s tough out there right now.
@Rhian: Being late isn’t bad when you’re fashionable. You got that covered!
@Tawania: We’ve both always loved to write, but that’s not the same thing as wanting to be writers. Writing is easy and enjoyable and fun…being a writer is a job and a half! I still love the writing though, which makes it all worth it.
And the first story we published together was Moonshine. It’s actually available free at our website at http://www.moirarogers.com/free-reads/ But the first book we started together was Crux, the first book in this Southern Arcana series!
@KiaJG: We sit in our separate homes and trade the manuscript back and forth, adding a little bit at a time! We work best when we’re not in the same place actually–whenever we’re together we end up wanting to watch movies or make guacamole.
And we never have ideas that don’t come from both of us. One of us may suggest something, but by the time it reaches the page, we’ve both added, subtracted, twisted and pushed at it until it’s something completely new that we both had a hand in!

My question: How would you describe your main character in Crossroads in 3 words?
follow Bree and Donna on twitter @elaing8

tweeted http://twitter.com/elaing8/status/8923394502
@Heather C: We migth employ any or all of those methods. LOL But usually we talk about it and try to figure out what the real issue is. We rarely come to a point where we don’t know where we should go, because we’ve already talked about it.
@Lucile: It’s not an unclear question! I know exactly what you mean. Bree and I switch things off with every other paragraph or so. We’re literally sending things back and forth every few minutes sometimes, changing some things and adding more. It can be a page or two or just a single word, but more often it’s a paragraph or two.
And Moira Rogers is a combination of middle names.
@Viki S: No problem, Viki! This is loads of fun!
@Darkreader: I don’t think I’d like to be a shapeshifter. I think I’d prefer to have magic or maybe a psychic ability or two. But if I had to pick one, I think I’d go with a cat. Tiger, maybe? (Bree says cat too, though she picks jaguar.)
@Andrea L: Thanks! I’m glad you like the books!
I’m not sure I know what normal life is. I have a 4 and a 5 year old, and they keep me hopping on top of the writing gig. Luckily, our husbands are really supportive of our work. They do sometimes get tired of listening to stuff 24/7, either directly or by overhearing phone conversations, but they’re really great.
@Kayla J: I can be inspired by just about anything–a news report, a small plotline in a movie, even a song or picture.
My favorite author right now is Ann Aguirre, and my favorite of all time is Stephen King. I think Bree’s listed her faves somewhere up north here, too.
@Natasha: The last book that took my breath away was a YA by Ann Aguirre called Razorland. I just did not want it to end. Unfortunately, it’s not due out until next winter, but trust me–we’ll be reminding everyone to go get it when it’s available!
@Kealie: The hardest scene I’ve ever written is actually in Crossroads–I can’t really say more than that. LOL We went through several versions of it, and our editor kept pushing us not to flinch away from what we were writing. She was right.
How do you do the direct link to a single tweet thing? I can never figure it out!

Hmmm. The craziest thing I’ve ever done for love…..Well, when it comes to true love, anything goes, right? So, I’m going to share a story about what my husband did for love! (Shhh, don’t squeal on me please!) Do you all remember the Humpty Dance song by Digital Underground? Pretty crazy song right? Well, on our wedding night, at the reception, in front of allllllll out family and friends, my husband took on my dare! He said: I’ll do it just ’cause I love you so much!” And proceeding to dance a solo around the floor! Two words……Floppy Chicken! R.O.T.F.L.M.A.O!!!! It was way too much! I wish I could show you all the video, (yes, I said video!) It was crazy! But you know what? I fell in love all over again!

MY STARS, I’VE BEEN TRYING TO WIN AT BITTEN SINCE FOREVER BUT MY LUCK STINKS!
@darchole: I wish I could say they always took half as long! Sometimes they do, but usually it’s closer to twice as long to get everything just right.
@Michelle B: I think I might drag my husband to Joe’s Crab Shack for a steamer bucket. Om nom nom.
Bree and I want to write a futuristic cyberpunk sort of thing–and we’re going to someday!
@Emma F: Oh man, there are so many! Crossroads is the second book in the Southern Arcana series, and you can find a listing of all our series books here: http://www.moirarogers.com/all-series
@Raelena P: Sometimes it can be, but Bree and I always have someone around for moral support!
@Kate L: There wasn’t really one moment. We enjoyed plotting together, so we tried writing together, and it worked–mostly. So then we practiced a lot, and eventually got the nerve to submit to editors.
@Rhian: You don’t live in your jammies?! I do! LOL
@amysmith98: Crossroads is the second novel, we have already contracted a third, and have many, many more ideas in development. So, hopefully, the answer to that is LOTS.
And we’ve always wanted to write more historicals, but the research is really daunting. Plus, I don’t know if we could ever give up the paranormal. We love it too much!
@Elaine G: Nicky is impulsive, fun and surprising. Derek is loyal, capable and sexy!
@Edie: Stuff like that is beyond me too! But dancing to Rammstein sounds like fun.

Craziest thing I ever did for love- Learned how to water-ski. My boyfriend(husband now of almost 30 years)was a jock. The craziest thing I have done for love was going on a road trip out west with my boyfriend of just a few weeks.
You two like to write books together, so a question I have is do either of you have plans to write a book individually in the future?
What made you two decide to write books together as opposed to individually?
I RSVP’d for today’s event.

@Sue Brandes: Hi, Sue! Nice to meet you too.
I would recommend anything by Ann Aguirre. She writes urban fantasy and romantic sci-fi, as well as romance as Ava Gray. Her April release, Skin Tight, is an awesome book that I would recommend to anyone in a heartbeat.
@Lisa Richards: I think that’s a hard question, because most really good books aren’t set in perfect worlds, because perfection doesn’t make for good conflict. Struggling to make the world a better place does. Still, if I had to choose, I’d pick the little Oklahoma community in “Where the Heart Is” by Billie Letts.
If I could give copies of a book to everyone, I think it would be “A Wrinkle In Time” by Madeleine L’Engle. Hey, that’s a pretty good fantasy world to live in!
@Christine M: Thanks, lady!!
@Lea-Ellen: Yes! Bree has two cats–who both hate me, by the way–and I have two cats and a big puppy.
@Stacey Smith: Thanks! Sometimes we argue over the direction of a book, but it doesn’t happen often. We try to get all that stuff ironed out before we start writing.
@Amy G: I don’t think either of us really has plans to write any solo books in the near future. We’re way too busy right now, honestly.
And writing together has given us a lot of built-in motivation. If I decide to slack and watch TV instead of work, I’m not just hurting myself. It’s something that keeps me from, well, slacking and watching TV!
@Ruby F: We do both. We only live three miles apart, but we tend to get distracted if we’re actually in the same room. So email exchanges work better, and we just talk on the phone or send IMs through Yahoo and whatnot.
The craziest thing I did for love was get married right out of high school. Everyone thought I was nuts. We will be celebrating 10 years this April! Yay for proving people wrong!
My question is how to do merge your writing styles together to make it sounds like one person?

Thanks for the great post. While I havent read a lot of your books. Crossroads looks like a great one to dive into soon. Thanks for sharing today.
Craziest thing I ever did was drive all night to go to Mardi Gras to be with this one guy. Skipped school (college) and slept in the car. Have to say it was definitely a experience.
Most of your books are e-books. Do you plan to release more in print? Did you choose that format to release most of your work and are there any advantages to being published that way?

Hi Ladies,
What’s the craziest thing I ever did for love?
Not much yet. We’re from the same town and still live there now. And both of our families are around us and we all get along. As for what would I do well…I’m sure I’ll know when the time comes!
My question is for Bree:
I read in one of your answers that your dream holiday would be Australia. What places would you like to visit and what things you would do if you ever get the chance to go back?
Thanks
shelley D.
I just wanted to post again as my email may have been wrong in the last post. My email is right for this post.
Thanks and sorry Shelley D.

Craziest thing I’ve done for LUST is drinking vodka in a fiat while parked with a beautiful sociopath - outside the city, under summer stars. Fun, but totally irresponsible. I blame youth, and her. But for love? Nothing.
My question: Do you guys actively seek film options for your work? Can we expect to see a movie out of your material at some point?

Oh my gosh I love the worlds created by Bree & Donna! I’ve written many a blog post singing their praises. I’m such a fangirl. Unabashed fangirl.
The biggest sacrifice I ever made for love was live in a state I’d been dreaming of escaping since high school. See, I hate extreme heat and I live in Phoenix. I love our summer weather like I love acid baths for my eyes. But to be near my man, I came back. And it’s ok because he loves me enough to return the favor and get me the heck out of here ASAP.
My question: have you ladies considered shopping your work to some of the New York pubs? Not thar I see anything wrong with the epubs, just wondering. After all, epubs are the future.
well, they’re the present too.

Do you like to write while listening to music or in silence? If music, what do you normally listen to?

Hey gals! What have I done for love that was crazy? I moved in with my now husband even though my mother said to me “How do you know he’s not an axe murderer”. I kid you not. We’ve been married 21 years next week and he has not murdered me with an axe:)
Every time I read an interview with your two I wonder how crazy it must be when you are both together in person!

Most interesting. It sounds like you two actually work TOGETHER, and not bickering lol. When I tried to do a book with my brother, we kept butting heads over little things, like his inability to keep to a “schedule.” I love him, I do, but I wouldn’t want to work with him. To work together like that… well, I’m jealous.
I could ask some serious questions… but where’s the fun in that?
So, I will ask: which of you would win in a pie eating contest? Who wins the talent show, and what do you show off? No cheating and using your impressive writing skills now!
As for the craziest thing I’ve done for love? Hard to say. I’ve done the “moved across the country” thing once or twice…. ok, maybe three times…or was it four? (shrugs). Eh, well, I’ve also taken up a new religion for a partner, including demonolatry, the worship of demons. My family considered that a little extreme lol.
Still, I think the craziest thing I have done… is nothing. When I was in college, I fell for this woman hard. I had never dated a woman before (or even a guy at that point. I was a bit of a prude growing up) and I “knew” she was the one. She lead me on for two years, where I did everything possible for her (did her homework, cleaned her apartment, took on a new job just to give her more money, etc). By the time I broke up with her, I had kissed her once, a peck on the cheek on valentine’s day. She treated me like dirt, and I did nothing to stop it as I thought I was in love. Live and learn, eh?
V
I have always vowed that I would never get involved with a man in the military, especially as my own dad was in the navy. And what did I do? I married a man in the military and moved around the country for him. As my mother always told me “Hon, always be careful when you spit in the wind!” So true!

Hi guys! I’ve always been interested in the dynamics of how 2 people can write together to make a book flow into one uniform idea. You both seem to work really well together, but everyone has their own unique way of doing things. How do you blend everything together to write your books?

Hi Moira!
Where do you get your ideas from?
What do you normally do before you began to write?
I have thought about writing but I do not know how to start a book. If you could give me some ideas, I would really appreciate it.
I love your books! Keep them coming!!!
The books sound really good. How had is it to work as a team? I can see it going both ways, one take over when the other has a “block”, or endless bickering over which direction the story will take.
As for what I would give up for love… the love of my life. I gave him up for a chance a secure, stable future. I didn’t think that there was a snowballs chance in he__ that we had a future together,we were so different and wanted such different things,so I let him go. You know the saying - if you love something let it go? 25 years later…. I still miss him every single day.
Aw guys, c’mon. I just can’t keep up with all of the stuff you make us do. Isn’t it enough to be a rabid fan of paranormal romance and digital books to get a chance? I subscibe.

Hey Bree and Donna!
How much of your writing do you take from everyday life and skew it and how much is pure creation?
Do you ever argue over which way a story should flow? Who usually gets the last word in?
