Heaven Sent by Dawn McClure
If you like snarky heroines, sexy heroes, and action that will make your heart stop, Heaven Sent by Dawn McClure is as close to perfect as you can get. She even throws in a little bit of sexy Satan to sweeten the deal.
Christine “Chris” Fitzpatrick makes her short-comings work for her. She is naïve, craves the love of a family to the point of risking her life for the members who don’t deserve it, and mouths off at the most inappropriate of times. But it absolutely fits her character. Everything that has happened to her—from her parents abandoning her to her foster parents cold refusal to keep her—has molded her into a woman who will do anything to make people love her.
Our hero, Gabriel “Gabe” MacPherson, is a true alpha male. He is drop dead gorgeous, deadly, and protective of those he cares about. The most fabulous thing, though, is that he doesn’t just posture. He talks the talk, walks the walk, and refuses to let Chris walk all over him even after they admit to caring for each other. So often the alpha male is stripped of his manliness when he wins his lady love. Not so with Gabe. He buys Chris Midol, tells her to quit PMSing, and refuses to let her give up on herself. He is also supportive, caring, and puts her above all others, including himself.
This is the first of Dawn McClure’s books that I’ve read, and though I got the feeling that Heaven Sent was part of a series, I was never lost. She did an excellent job of keeping the reader informed of the rules of her world and the previous goings-on. My only complaint about the writing was that the narrator occasionally broke the fourth wall. While it didn’t ruin the book, it did bother me. I know many authors do this, especially in the romance genre, but I don’t like it.
Even with this tiny blemish, the book still earns 5 tombstones. I stayed up until 5 AM because I simply couldn’t quit reading this book. That, dear readers, is a sign of a good book if ever I’ve seen one!

- but honest to goodness out loud reactions to the story and it’s characters. A most excellent adventure.
