Hi everyone! I’m going to try to answer the first questions individually, but I have a feeling I’m going to end up just making some broad responses eventually. I’ve seen how many people hang out here at BBB!

Carol M, I read just about everything, but faves are historical fiction, fantasy, and romance

Hi Helen! I’m great! Thank you for asking! *g*

*waves to Fedora* The series has five books for sure, and then I’m doing a spinoff. I won’t say no to more books though!

Hi Jessica! Easy question. :) My books are set in a demon hospital. As far as I know, there are no others like that! LOL

Hi Larissa ;D. I’ve heard such great things about your Demonica series. I just recently bought the first 3 books to the series but unfortunately have not gotten to them yet. As for a question… let’s see, since I haven’t read the series yet…

What is your series about?(probably a stupid question to ask since I just bought your books)
And where did you get the idea for the series?

    Thanks ;D

Looks like I lucked out before others because WalMart had your latest book out on Friday, and I grabbed it then.

What I liked most about this series is that the brothers, except for 1, tried to fight their nature. I haven’t read Lore’s story yet, but out of the three brothers so far, I loved Wraith/Josh the most. I think his story was the most tragic of the three so far, compounded by what his actions did to others, and what he had to do to survive.

Other than the fact that half-breeds (I forget the term you used) are frowned upon, is there anything else that sets them apart? Is it because they are the only ‘beings’ that maintain their human side, they don’t become fully demon like the others? Are their abilities always skewed?

I know that after Sin’s book that is it for the Demonica books and the beginning of the spin off series. Are you finding it hard to say bye to the series?

I RSVP’d, following Larissa on Facebook and Myspace and I’m signed up for her newsletter. I didn’t buy my copy of the book through Amazon or Barnes and Nobles but I did buy 2 copies through bookdepository.com does that count :-)

Well you solved that problem didn’t you. And for that I say thank you!!!! We talk about the Demonica series all the time at the book clubs at B&N.com.

    Hi Larissa,

I love the Demonica books and honestly hate having to wait. I love the hospital setting as it is very different and fun (plus I do medical transcription so it is fun to see it in the demon setting!) Sometimes I won’t start a series until it is almost complete because I hate waiting! So, for my question, I would say how do you keep motivated and excited for each new book? Do you need chocolate and wine, or does motivation come from something different?!

hey larissa, thank you so very very much for taking time out of your schedule to spend it with us here at bbb! you have no idea how excited i am that we get a chance to ask you all of our questions… you are my absolute favorite author and i read quite a bit :D! anyway, i have a few questions for you, some i’ll ask now and some i haven’t even thought up yet, but i know are in my head waiting to be asked, so here goes (feel free to not answer any of these if you already have):

    1) what’s your writing process like? what i mean is, do you have a certain place you always write, things you always need around you, pets that usually find a spot on your feet or lap, etc.?

    2) do you celebrate any of the milestone’s of book writing and publishing (such as the completion of a manuscript, sending it off to your editor, when it hits the shelves, etc.), and if so, how?

    3) do you ever have doubts regarding your ability to write the story you want to write and that others will want to read? how do you deal with that doubt if you do ever feel it? (as i said above, i LOVE your writing, so know that this in no way, shape, or form reflects what i think of your writing. if anything it’s the exact opposite… i don’t see any reason why you should doubt yourself… you’re awesome!!!)

    4) how did your road to publishing happen? (were you a writer ever since you could remember, or did you just try it one day? did you get an agent first and then they sold your book to a publisher or did you go straight to a publisher? etc.)

okay, i think that’s it… again, thanks for taking time with us today!!!

    (i rsvp’d yesterday)

Larissa welcome to BBB, I love the series and I was hoping you could expand it! Love the background of a demon hospital and the way you’ve structured the series, it’s totally new paranormal!

Can’t buy the books because I already own them, already friends on Facebook & GoodReads, I’ve already befriended BBB and have links all over the place from the multiple BBB postings! My questions are below,

Q1. Ok, if you could be any character in any book fiction or non-fiction who would it be?

Q2. What’s the spin-off series supposed to be about?

Love the books, keep them coming!

    Hi Larissa,
You are a new author for me. One of your stalkers (Hi Rao) suggested that I try you on for size, since I like demons. Of course I like all kinds of creatures big and small. I also enjoy all the different twists on old stories and mythology that are available in this genre.

Is/are ther any other author(s) that you think are similar to you?

Do you set yourself one big goal or many small ones? and how do you reward yourself?

    Thank You

    Hello Larissa.
Wow I love Vigo and Omar too.

How do you feel about Brandon Fraser and Eric Bana?

Salem’s Lot scared the ****** out of me.

Do you know where it was filmed?

It was filmed in a little Norhtern Calif. coastal twon, it was either Fortuna or Ferdale. They are sister cities and Ferndale was the bithplace of my ex- husband. He drove me near the house they used and he told me it was owned ( at that time) by a little old lady. When they asked to use her house they offered to pay, so in payment she asked for all new kitchen appliances and washer and dryer. Wow, I’m an Aug. baby too the 25th and 3 years older. I was born in Oregon but have also lived all over.
I did several of the requirements and will send them to the email addy.
Good luck and that was a great interview.

Thanks for doing the video interview today for us, Larissa. Your name reminds me of Natasha Lyonne or Ione Skye. Neat. I have a black devil ducky a friend gave me. Heehee. :) I love Josh Holloway. Team Sawyer! (I’m actually working on a Sawyer/Sayid design for CafePress’ Lost fan portal, just needs the drawn and colored layers put together in Photoshop). Julie Benz was good as Darla (and just appeared for her lengthy role in Dexter). Yay, Viggo. Lots of authors (at least 3 here now, in the last 3-4 months) want Oded Fehr for their characters. I think if you guys had your way (I agree), he’d definitely have a VERY busy schedule! Love him (Mom, too). I like the look of Underworld and have dressed up as Selene at least 3 times. When I went to the premiere of the first one, I wore a long vinyl coat (specially made by my Mom) and my vinyl pants with a wig similar to her hair and signed a $5 bill for what appeared to be a 15-year old kid who wanted my autograph ’cause he thought I looked like her all dressed up. It’s been a good experience all around, and I love costuming. Have you ever dressed up as one of your characters? Would you think it was cool if your fans did (or do)? Yum, cheese. You don’t look disorganized. :) So, sisters instead of brothers in the stories, then? :) I watched this video using McDonald’s free Wi-Fi while out running errands today (and most of my business is done on the internet, so I carry my netbook around a lot, and I can’t see the video link from my cell, so I figured I’d check it out this way, on a normal computer), so I think it’s neat that you were a fast food worker, too. Everything comes back around, eh? Loves vampires, hates the sight of blood: sounds like Bella from Twilight. :)

I haven’t read these books, but 3 brothers sure sound interesting. Erotica is my cup of tea, so definitely something I’ll be writing down.

I have read all three Demonica novels numerous times and I still can’t get enough! Drumming my feet in anticipation of finding Ecstasy Unveiled at my bookstore and immersing myself completely once again!

Do any other authors inspire your writing?

Have you ever found while writing that a story line you may have had in your head turns out completely different than you thought it would or should?

    Hi everyone!

    Wow…y’all are freaking awesome!!!

I’ve read all the comments, and I have to thank you all for all the kind words about me and my series. I have the best readers EVER!

Now…I’m going to try to answer all the questions in some manner, but I’m going to just sort of talk in general rather than address specifics, because if I answered every question individually, I’d be here for three days…and since I have a book due on Monday and I’m nowhere near done, I need to get back to it!

    Okay…

A lot of the questions can be answered by going to my site (what the Demonica series is about, what’s next, etc,); http://www.Larissaione.com Also, some of them are answered in the video.

Stuff you won’t find on my site:

Covers…I have the BEST publisher! While I don’t have a lot of say in my covers, I do have input. For example, I asked them to use the demon caduceus on the cover, and they did it. They always show me the mockups and ask my opinion. They may or may not take my suggestions, but I have to say that I haven’t had many complaints at all. I wouldn’t change a thing — I think they draw the exact right audience. (Okay, I might change the hair color on the hero on Pleasure Unbound — it should be short and black.)

The new series…will be about the 4 Horsemen of the Apocalypse, and will release in 2011.

Travel: I’ve lived all over the US because I was in the military and so is my husband. I’ve also lived in England and have visited Wales, France, Germany, and Greece.

Stephen King and Jack London inspired my writing when I was younger.

I also do have some contemporary romances — Snowbound and two Secrets Volumes. My Sydney Croft series is paranormal/SF and is VERY erotic. Level 5 on the sex scale. My Demonica books…I’d rate them a 3.5 or 4 on the erotic scale in comparison.

If I could give endless numbers of copies of any book, I’d give The Eye of the World by Robert Jordan to everyone.

I do not make word count every day, but on other days I do double, so it works out.

To relax I watch movies and watch TV. I also love to bowl.

I always celebrate everything. Every milestone deserves a bottle of champagne.

My writing process is pretty uncomplicated; I sit on the couch, turn on the laptop, and write. After I check emails and play for WAY too long on Twitter! *g*

Love Eric Bana, because he was in the new Star Trek movie, and I’m a huge Trekker. Brendan Fraser? i like him in the Mummy movies.

There are no firm plans to continue the Demonica series beyond 5 books, but that’s not firm. Stay tuned for more news. There will be 4 books in the spinoff series.

Okay, that’s all I have for now because I need to get the kid ready for bed. I’ll be back to answer more questions in the morning!

    Hi everyone!

Back for round two of answering questions! Again, I’m going to answer the Q’s whose answers can’t be found elsewhere (in the video interview or on my website,) so if I didn’t answer your question, that might be why. Or it might be because I missed it, and apologies!

    Okay…

Someone asked where I’d like to go for a book tour…easy! Great Britain! I SO love the U.K. I have a lot of readers there, so I’d love to get over there again! Also, Australia. And the Netherlands. And Israel. And…well, you get the picture. I’d pretty much go anywhere!

    Answers to other questions:

Seminus demons…need a LOT of loving. Fortunately for Harrowgates, our mated boys can make it home for a happy interlude quite often. They start getting twitchy after about 6 hours.

Half-breeds…pretty much any kind of demon half-breed has issues, but Seminus demons, when mixed with humans, go really funky. In book 5, you’ll find out how Sin actually came about.

I do attend conventions! This year, I’m not sure which ones, though. I’m going to try for RT and Lori Foster’s.

My favorite color is blue, unless we’re talking about electronics. In which case I like pink. My Mac shell is pink, and so is my iPod and my jump drive and my backup drive…

My favorite paranormal beings are vampires. But I do love anything paranormal.

My favorite cover? Sin Undone. I got a sneak peek and it blows the others away. Until I saw that one, Passion Unleashed, because I love the couple, but the color for Desire Unchained is amazing.

My inspiration for the series came during an episode of Angel, when he needed to go to the hospital but couldn’t because he’s a vampire. So I just knew the world needed an underworld hospital. *g*

I decided to write in the paranormal genre because I love reading it. I love romance, and I love the paranormal, so it all really made sense. And I love writing it!

The most difficult scenes to write are fight scenes and love scenes. Fight scenes are ALWAYS hard. Love scenes are iffy. And the most difficult thing about writing them is that my husband and son always seem to be home when I’m trying!

Shade’s triplets…they do have names! Rade, Stryke, and…holy crap, I can’t remember the other one. I have it written down somewhere…

Demon duckie does not have a name. May have to remedy that…

Hi Larissa! Great interview. I love the video interviews because it gives us a more personal view into the authors world. :) So, thanks for that. (am reading Lara Adrian’s latest as well, and loving it.)

You spoke a little about your partnership for Sydney Croft…but I’d like to ask how you actually go about writing together - the process persay. Do you ever end up have spats about which word to use, or direction to take the story etc..?

    And, no. You didn’t babble!

    [Reply]

  127. Comment by Lynn D — January 28, 2010 @ 10:40 am

Hey Larissa! Can’t wait to get the latest book on ebook! I love, love, love your series. I would be willing to throw myself down some steps just to get into the hospital to see my bad boy Shade! I don’t really have a question as much as a comment…I love the way you write, your stories keep my attention and your writing style is awsome the way you actually explain what kinds of demons there are, and what makes them tick, how dangerous they are, etc.. I loved the Harrowgates in which they can travel from place to place too. Well, actually, I do have a question, where do you go for your research in demons? And are the descriptions of them made up or from research? Just want to say you’re awsome and I hope the Demonica Series never comes to an end. And I can’t wait to read about the Horsemen.

    Part 3 of Q&A:

The new series about the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse will be about, well, the 4 horsemen. So it’ll be a four book series, and will be set in the Demonica world. And yes, you have met one heroine, and possibly one hero already. But the horsemen won’t make an appearance until Sin Undone. And yes, each book will feature one couple.

Sue A., I’m not sure what you mean…can you expand a little? I think you mean…do I go back and read a book once I’ve finished writing it? I don’t, because I’m afraid to find errors in the finish product. However, I do keep ARCs at hand to reference if I need to know something from a past book while writing a current one.

Speaking of writing, I’m a pantser and a plotter. I find I need a lot fewer revisions if I actually plot, but since I HATE plotting, I do a lot of pantsing. Which gets me into trouble. You’d think I’d learn.

LOL – my dedication to Goob! He’s my son, and when he was a baby, we called him peanut. My mother jokingly said we might as well call him a goober (another name for a peanut) so we started calling him that, and it stuck. Poor kid.

Memorable comment from a fan…I’ve had so many! I just love my readers! I think the most amazing compliments, though, are when readers get the caduceus tattoo. How incredible is that?

No plans to go to San Diego anytime soon for a signing. This summer I’ll be in the Portland, OR area, though, and might do some.

Finding time to write – I actually write full time, so I have all day while the hubby and kid are gone!

I write about 4 pages per day…more if I can. Writer’s block sucks, and that’s when I take a break from writing and just read.

Children…Eidolon (Eye-duh-lawn) and Tayla will have children eventually, but nothing will be announced anytime soon. It may happen in the new series.

I always wanted to be a writer – I started writing as soon as I could spell. I wrote my first full-length novel at 13, so yes, it was always a goal!

Music…I don’t listen to it while writing, but I do pick soundtracks for each book and listen to those songs while cleaning the house and doing non-writing things.

    Part 4 of Q&A:

    Okay…

If I could bring a character to life…it would be Eidolon. Shade and Lore are kind of moody, so we’d probably just spend our day staring at each other, and Wraith would probably drive me nuts. I love those boys, but geez, they can be troublemakers!

And yes, my characters definitely have minds of their own! Lore gave me the most trouble. And he got his way in the end…

Conventions…I love RWA, but I had a BLAST at the last RT. So many readers to have fun with!

Did I talk about my writing process? If not, well, I just sit down and go at it. I don’t have any rituals or anything other than doing email and bloghopping in the morning. Though I do need coffee.

Doubt demons: I has them! OMG, to I have them. And to tell you the truth, I haven’t figured out a way to deal with them. I just try to not listen. Sometimes it works, and sometimes not.

And yes, as deadline approaches, I do have a hard time settling in and getting stuff done!

Reaver…wow, tough question, Lillie! Leave it to you! *g* Honestly, I’m not sure. I have an idea for him, but I don’t know if it’ll play out in a horseman novel or in a book of his own or a novella. But yes, I would like him to get some loving. : )

Something you might not know about me…I’m a Trekker! Big time. HUGE. I even have a Star Trek tattoo!

The hunk on my website – that’s my husband! Okay, it’s not. He likes to think so. I have no idea who it is, but if any of you find out, send him my way. I’d like to thank him. In the most innocent way possible, of course. : )

Why I didn’t end up chaining Lore to the wall…well, he was chained for a LONG time. It got repetitive, and I just needed more action.

If I could be a character in any book not of my own, I’d be an Aes Sedai from Robert Jordan’s Wheel of Time series. Probably Egwene. Love that series!

If I hadn’t become a writer, what would I be? Well, I worked in meteorology for over a decade…first for the Air Force and then for the FAA and NWS, so I’d still be doing that. However, had I had the guts when I was younger, I’d have become a doctor despite my squeamishness.

Which leads to…yes, I have a very limited medical background. I became an EMT so I could portray my medical heroes and heroines with some authority.

When the going gets hard in writing the series? I go read good reviews. Always perks me up.

My ideas? Come from everywhere, but mostly real life and TV are the sparks.

And yes, sometimes I have stories in my head that end up completely different on the page. Desire Unchained was one of those.

My publisher gives me a LOT of freedom. I ADORE my editor. She has helped me become a much stronger writer.

Gem and Kynan…will not get their own book. I explain why in the video, so check it out if you can stand my babbling! LOL

Books I wish I’d written? Hmm…yes, but I can’t think of any examples right now. I just read a proposal for a fellow author friend who I did that with, though. I read her proposal and was like, this is brilliant! Why didn’t I think of that! *g*

Demons as heroes…I think they make great ones! Talk about the ultimate bad boy. Gena Showalter does demons SOOOOO well!

Writing process for Sydney Croft – well, Steph and I pass the manuscript back and forth. For the most part, she writes the heroes and I write the heroines, though now always. And we RARELY have disagreements. When we do, we talk them out and do what’s best for the story, not what’s best for our individual egos. It’s really nice working with her!

No date for the spinoff yet, but I’m going to guess that maybe late spring of 2011!

Alana…hmm…I guess I’m most excited about focusing books on four people who haven’t had a lot of coverage in fiction, and who I’ve been fascinated by for a long time. I have some fun twists for them, I think! :)

Nancy, yes! LOL — that’s one of the reasons I’m happy to be doing the spinoff. I want to keep things fresh. I’ve read too many series where the plots and heroes and heroines almost seem interchangeable, and I don’t want to get to that point.

Deana, LOL! Thank you! What sets them apart? I guess the medical aspect, though that’s not entirely unique. But the underworld hospital is, so I’ll go with that! :)

Thank you to EVERYONE for their kind words and awesome support for this series! It’s because of YOU that I got to add Lore and Sin to the mix with their own books! Thank you!!!

Dude! Seriously? RT? Okay, if that’s not my two questions, mine is: has the hubster got his spring schedule? How’s it look on the deadline front? Hope goob is feeling better.

Hi Larissa! Which of your books would you say is your best work so far? Do you have a favorite? And will you focus any future books on the angels’ side of the world? Or is that covered in Ecstasy Unveiled?
