Maneater by Denise A. Agnew
Cora Destiny Tremayne works for the SIA – Special Investigations Agency. She is known as the “Maneater” at SIA because she goes in and does her job, period. Her entire life is her job, so much so that she forgets she is a woman sometimes.
Mac Tudor is also a special agent for the SIA. His reputation is different than Destiny’s. He is known as a player and has supposedly done most of the women at SIA. He can be charming but also deadly when needed.
Destiny and Mac have been ordered to become partners in a search for Phyllida Cuthbert, a missing agent. The job sounds okay until they are both told that they will need to pose as husband and wife. That wouldn’t be a problem, but Destiny and Mac can’t stand each other. Together, after coming to an agreement not to kill each other, they head out to find the missing agent at a large lab in the mountains. They don’t find Phyllida but do find a monster that is unlike anything either has seen - and it is hungry.
Maneater by Denise A. Agnew reminded me of a cross between Alien and Terminator. You have suspense, drama, the sex and the sexy agent with a gun. What more could a girl ask for? The chemistry between Destiny and Mac was realistic, and you could almost feel the sexual tension they held for each other. Destiny, with her take-no-prisoners mentality, learns to become a little softer with Mac. Mac is the type of man that will use his charm to get what he wants and he isn’t afraid to let his friends see him do it. The monster was both nasty and somewhat human in a way; you try not to feel for it but it became harder as you learn more about it.
