Under the Magnolia by Moira Rogers
With a hurricane moving in on the Georgia coast, Wesley Saxon, Chief of Police for Carter’s Bay, is glad that all the tourists got sorted out and had left the island once they realized that everything would be closing. Bea calls about a couple kids showing up at the shelter. They had been stranded on the island when a woman had rescued them, but then she had never showed up at the shelter like she had promised. Wes should have known from the start that it would be her. Who but Adelaide would be crazy enough to drive into a hurricane to rescue two strangers?
Adelaide Gardner had gotten herself into a lot of trouble over the years. Chasing down tornadoes, driving into storms, and vexing law enforcement by showing up in the midst of trouble had sure made her life interesting. In fact, if there was trouble afoot, it was more then likely that you would find Addie knee deep in it. Getting stuck on a island in the path of a Category Two hurricane was right on par with the rest of her life, but darn it, things like this are not supposed to happen to psychics - especially psychics whose specialty is seeing the future.
Some of this story’s plot could have been plucked from any mainstream romance. A small town’s most desired hottie gets stranded on an inland with the only girl who had ever turned him down in his life (who happens to have had a crush on him for awhile) in the middle of a hurricane, they figure out what they have been missing, make love, etc. Sounds familiar, right? How about the part where both are closet psychics in a world where psychic abilities have become the only slightly accepted new pseudoscience and it can be dangerous for others to know? Didn’t think so. Seriously, this story is freaking awesome.
I have come to expect a certain standard from Moira Rogers: well rounded characters, unique twists and situations, and a very full and complete story no matter what the length. Under the Magnolia does not disappoint that standard. The characters of Wes & Addie have great personalities, both have doubts about themselves that had kept them apart and unsure, but they really balance each other well. Addie gets into trouble, Wes helps her get out of it. Simple right? Not quite, but I like it better that way. The psychic angle is fantastic and added just the right amount of suspense to this inevitable small town romance and I hope Moira Rogers writes more psychic stories because this reality with a twist is highly intriguing and possible addictive.

Another book that has an element I find intriguing - psychics. This does sound like an interesting twist on the same old tale. I think I am going to be reading a lot from this author in the future!

“Some of this story’s plot could have been plucked from any mainstream romance”
As I read your opening paragraphs I thougth the same thing. For some reason this book hasn’t gotten me too excited but I like to keep on track with certain authors so if I like the previous stories, I’ll give this one a chance too. If you say it doesn’t disappoint, then it’ll probably be worth a shot.

Mainstream, with a twist! That sounds wonderful! When you are stuck in a genre sometimes you crave to break it up with something within that same genre, but slightly different and this sounds just right!

MMMmmmm I love a good romance with meat to it. Two closet Psyshics and denied love. Let’s not forget the unacceptance of psychics and the hurricane for the danger. This book sounds promising and makes for the type of book you could curl up on the couch with. Just don’t forget the tissues.

Even before you add the psychic elements, it sounds like fun love story. I can already tell Addie’s the kind of heroine I like.

I love romantic suspense stories and this one sounds good. Who can resist a Chief of Police.

Love the psychic touch added to a traditional romance plot. And well written to boot? Adding it to my wishlist now!
