Secrets, Volume 27: Untamed Pleasures by Liane Gentry Skye, Hannah Murray, Nicole North, Leigh Court
Heart Storm by Liane Gentry Skye - 3/5 tombstones
Sirenia is merkind’s last hope for a new generation. She must find Triton’s Lost Son and conceive his child within the time of her passion swell. Ba’at Rath, the merman who failed to impregnate Sirenia’s sister, is convinced that he is the Lost Son. He will do anything to make sure he is the one to fulfill Sirenia’s passion swell, even if it means removing the competition.
The matrilineal world of the merkind was well built and intriguing. Sirenia was an easily relatable heroine with enough quirks to make me snort in laughter. I felt the tension between her and Ba’at Rath was a bit overplayed, though. His evil schemes were just too far-fetched for me. Overall, it was a cute story with a steamy romance, but the conflict rubbed me the wrong way.
The Boy Next Door by Hannah Murray - 5/5 tombstones
Sexy next door neighbor Jacob sparked Isa’s interest the day she moved in, but his quick humor and affable nature kept her from accepting a date. Isa has certain…needs in the bedroom that she thinks someone as vanilla as Jacob couldn’t possibly fulfill. After a bad day and a bottle of wine, Isa finds out just how wrong she was about the boy next door.
This is one of the most erotic stories I’ve ever read. Not only did it make me fan myself because the room became far, far too hot, but it was heart-wrenchingly romantic. Jacob and Isa had a natural chemistry that permeated off the computer screen into real life. If bondage isn’t your thing, you may want to steer clear, but if you don’t mind a little rough play, this is a must read.
Devil in a Kilt by Nicole North - 3.5/5 tombstones
Shauna MacRae is a born again virgin who’s been haunted by erotic visions of a Highland warrior. After having an inappropriate daydream during a staff meeting, Shauna decides she needs a Highlander—any Highlander—to get out of this funk. She goes to the Grandfather Mountain Highland Games to find such a man but finds herself in seventeenth century Scotland instead of a warm bed. And who does she see in this strange castle in this strange land? None other than the man of her fantasies.
My feelings teetered between love and like with this one. Not once was I bored during Shauna’s internal struggles, and Gavin’s genuine emotions toward the modern woman made my insides melt. Again, the conflict was a bit overplayed, but the interactions between Shauna and Gavin made up for any dramatic exclamations by the Evil Villain.
The Bet by Leigh Court - 4/5 tombstones
An innocent bet made by two drunken men turns into the best thing to happen to Damian Hunt. An admitted rake, Damian has had his way with many women, but Claire, the virginal sister of his friend George, proves to be the most wickedly enjoyable seduction of all. His task is to pleasure her with nothing but his words, but he finds that the words between them are far more pleasurable than any touch.
Oh, mama! I didn’t think I was going to like this story because its basis was two men betting on how easily they could excite a woman they cared nothing for. The journey Damian travels to get Claire to not only speak with him but allow him to speak to her in such a manner was paved with doubts and fears, regret and hope, and even love. His resolve to preserve her innocence even as he takes it is a truly inspired trait to give to a reluctant hero. Period romances normally don’t attract me, but I’d make an exception to glimpse more of what this author has to offer.
