Splitting Hares by Camille Anthony
When werewolf Vance saved Ouida from being gang raped, he had known this big, beautiful black woman was his lifemate. Being pushed to get ready for an appointment with Westyn, the pack’s alpha, Ouida sobs over her unruly hair. Vance opens his arms to offer comfort that quickly escalates into burning need and flaming sex. Finally able to open her eyes, Ouida is shocked and scared at finding a snarling wolf between her legs rather than her wolfman Vance. She escapes into the bathroom and locks the door, leaving Vance alone to face Westyn as a rejected wolf without his bitch. Pack law calls for Ouida’s death, but Vance successfully pleads for her life, and Westyn offers an alternate punishment. Can Vance bear to share his mate with his fellow pack enforcers, and will Ouida be strong enough to endure the ordeal?
Ms. Anthony tells this story through Vance’s, Ouida’s and Westyn’s perspectives, which effectively gets you into their heads so you understand their thoughts and feelings. Her weres are very wolf-like and often in wolf form. The creepiness of the scenes with one human partner and the other wolf is somewhat lessened by their strong emotions and loving actions. This novella is typical in plot and heavy on sex with a lot of animal coupling. If you do not object to that sort of action, it is an easy, entertaining read.
