Shae was an angel…an angel who wanted more than his eternal existence had given him and forewarned by the archangel Michael he still yearned for the sun on his wings. After a millennia of being a guardian angel with no soul assigned to him, he needed more. Taking a small step out of the gates, he reveled in the freedom, if only for a few minutes, but when he heard the scream of terror, he realized his rebellious actions had caused Michael to close the gates of Heaven to him forever as he plummeted to the earth.

Wandering the earth since his fall, Shae lived with the fae of the earth but now wandered to Australia and, for the first time, found the soul that was meant to be his. Watching the two girls play, the older Julia was to be his when she came of age, but the beautiful and trusting heart of the young Aleta drew his attention as she called to him. “Why couldn’t this soul be his salvation?” his whole being had called out.

Years later, Aleta was called home. Her grandfather was the only one left and he was going to be gone soon as he took in his last days at the hospital. Asking her to return to the home in the woods where she had grown up was his last request. After the accidental deaths of her grandmother, parents and older sister Julia, this would be her first visit back to the place of all her loving childhood memories. When her grandfather finally takes his last breath, she can feel the presence of someone in the room, a presence that warms her very soul, but she cannot connect the feeling with anything but a warm remembrance from her youth.

Shae now decides it is time to reveal himself to Aleta, but will his desire for the woman bring his redemption or cause her more pain? Shae’s best friend and his loving wife help him with his decision to put Aleta’s safety and desires before his own, but when she becomes the target of the Devil himself, Shae must give everything to save her from succumbing to the evil.

This novella was a romantic escape that begs to be curled up with and enjoyed with a hot tea on a
cool night. I was entertained at the imaginings that the author delivered in this almost whimsical tale of faery dreams and Scottish lore. The only thing I found missing was details of the tragedy were almost washed over and would have loved to know more about the car accident that took her family and whether the fae had something to do with it.

Sounds interesting to a point and then falls flat.
