Summer’s Wolf by Rebecca Royce
Summer Morrison is part white wolf, but she only found that out three years ago when she shifted without warning. Since that time, she has lived in New York and has a failing singing career. Summer doesn’t want to look too closely at the shifter part of her so she just ignores it instead.
Cullen Murphy is also a black and gray wolf shifter but he was raised as one so he is comfortable with it. He is Summer’s mate but has promised her mother to leave her alone for five years so she can come to terms with her inner wolf.
Summer comes home to find 15 wolves surrounding two dead bodies. She knows who they are, but her inner wolf pleads with her to let her help her and take the pain away. Instead, Cullen rescues her from Claudius who was sent to take Summer and bring her to Kendrick. Kendrick is the old Alpha male of their pack who cursed them but was taken over by his son Tristen. Kendrick wants all of the female shapeshifters so he can produce the strongest soldiers and take back his pack. In the mean time, Summer begs Cullen to teach her to kill so she can take revenge. Cullen refuses because he knows what it is like to carry around that kind of baggage.
Summer’s Wolf by Rebecca Royce was the second installment of the Westervelt Wolves. I really enjoyed the first book, Her Wolf with Ashlee and Tristen. Summer is Ashlee’s little sister who now gets the spotlight. Summer started not wanting to admit that she is a shifter and fighting it tooth and nail, no pun intended. With the help of her wolf and Cullen’s, she learns to let others take the rains and learns to trust. Cullen thinks that he is unworthy of anyone caring for him because of his dark past. He had been used as Kendrick’s assassin. Both of them together begin to heal each other and become stronger for it. Cullen was the perfect tortured hero until he meets Summer and learns that even he is worthy.
