Ethan is sitting in a beer-and-burger joint that matches his mood: low down. He’s surprised when his friend Eric turns up and really unhappy when he finds out what Eric wants from him. Eric’s mother is missing and he wants Ethan’s help to find her. Ethan used to be a working empath with Savior, a professional organization of empaths searching for lost relatives and missing kids, but he’s had too many years of sharing/feeling people’s heartbreaks and tragedies and walked away from it. Eric’s missing mother is a drug addict, and it doesn’t take a psychic to know that something has gone horribly wrong for her, but what? Eric is one of Ethan’s few friends, and being honest with himself, he knows that what he feels for Eric is more than just friendship.

Lost is a dark, gritty story with the flavor of the old black and white film noir in it. All the characters are lost in one way or another – physically, emotionally or morally. And although it seems as if all is lost, there is justice and a glimmer of hope found in unexpected places. Even the sexually explicit scenes reflect the edgy, brooding atmosphere. This is a powerful and lingering read!
