Rhiannan (Rhi) Drake is a guide both private and for the national park she lives near. One week a month, she takes time for herself. No one knows why, and she likes it that way so she can keep to herself.

Sean McMurray was once in the Special Forces as a tracker but now is a Detective for the Aspen Police Department. He keeps having nightmares, so he uses alcohol to sleep through the night.

Sean is working on a case with three murders all with the same MO. His best friend and partner is Hunter Lockwood. Together, they are looking for a serial killer who uses his victims as pin cushions and dumps them like trash. While investigating the case, Sean goes to Rhi to find out if she has seen anything unusual. What he finds is his mate, and the attraction is instant for both. In his nightmares, a wolf comes to him and tells him that his soulmate will help him understand his heritage. The same wolf comes to Rhi and tells her that she must bring her mate to The Sanctuary where they can help him deal with the secret he does not want to deal with. While there, Sean and Rhi argue, and he pushes her away. When danger threatens Rhi, Sean cannot help but save her and possibly himself.

Spark of a Wolf is the second book in the Eyes of Darkness series. The story line for the serial killer was imaginative, to say the least. It was kind of twisted, but in a good way. I love serial killers but never hope to meet one, if you know what I mean. I did feel that the attraction and sudden love between Sean and Rhi in the beginning was a bit quick. However, Christy Poff made the couple grow together and learn that they had more than just themselves to look out for. Spark of a Wolf can be read as a stand alone book.
