Evie, the sister of Druidess Mairi Ross, is missing and presumed kidnapped by an evil Flarion who intends to soul-bind Mairi. Such an action would be catastrophic to the future and balance of the universe. Time Guardian Brother, Cochise, is assigned to protect her and it’s a mission that he detests.

Forbidden Eternity is the latest of the Time Guardians series and should not be read as a stand-alone book. The world Ms. Moncrief created is convoluted and fascinating. It’s a world of time travelers who are seeped in Celtic legend, except the myth is reality and the responsibilities are legendary.

I enjoyed the writing style and the very human aspects of the non-human characters. As a person of Native American lineage, however, I was very distressed by the portrayal of the main male character, Cochise (also called Black Elk). Cochise is an Indian with an attitude and it’s all bad. He’s a white-hating Indian, full of bitterness and hate, and is saved through his love for Mairi. I found the references to native culture and spirituality inaccurate and somewhat offensive. However, the non-native reader will not pick up those nuances, and I’m afraid will be left with a mis-impression of the Lakota people. It is always a risk to write of a culture one is not familiar with, and I’m afraid the author did a poor job of it in relation to native peoples and the Lakota nation.

For those who have enjoyed the Time Guardian series, this book will be a “must read” for you.
