Pavlov’s Dog by Andi Lee – Sometimes wolves go bad. It is this knowledge, and his own memories of his pack’s self-destruction, that kept Josh in self imposed isolation. At least, until Caleb came to the Pavlov’s Dog Public House, and he realized that sometimes they don’t.
Wolves of the West by Charlie Cochrane – Sometimes your life is defined by the secrets you keep. The Wolves of the West society knows this well. I was particularly interested in reading Queer Wolf as it was the first publication by this press, QueeredFiction. I wasn’t sure what to expect when I began, but I’m happy to say that I’m pleasantly surprised. This anthology was lovely read indeed. The classic humanoid wolf and the true wolf alike are both present in this anthology, as well as plenty of twists on the creation and origin of lycanthropes, making it appealing to different breeds of werewolf fans.
However, this anthology wasn’t perfection. Some of the stories didn’t feel like self-contained works and felt like parts of bigger stories that I wouldn’t get the chance to read, which was disappointing since reading those particular works piqued my curiosity. Overall, though, I consider this anthology a quality piece of GLBT fiction, offering up a nice dollop of drama, an array of action, and, of course, plenty of howls.
