Blood Hunted by Aline de Chevigny
Of all the characters in Ms. de Chevigny’s Chronicles of the Cursed series (and I like them all), Nicolai and Kelly are my favorite couple. Nicolai is strong, quiet, protective, and deadly. He gets the job done remarkably well without tooting his horn. When he promises something, consider it accomplished. He definitely is a knight in shining armor.
Kelly Ravenson is a worthy partner to Nicolai. She is very strong (possibly stronger even than Nicolai), protective, quiet, and sacrificing. Through so much risk and pain to her person, she helps him spy on her sadistic, cruel master, Daemor, the leader of Raven house. She could have escaped, but she stays to suffer all Daemor’s tortures (she is his favorite “pet”) for the other women’s sakes. Now, you see why I deem her the stronger of the two.
Of course, Nicolai is originally unaware of Kelly’s sufferings, so he is extremely furious when he found out. First of all, she has been helping him and thereby falls under his protection. Secondly, she is the right woman for him. After a hundred years, he had given up hope of finding her. Could you imagine what he would do to the person who has consistently hurt the love of his life? Not to mention, there is already so much bad blood between the Wolf house and the Raven house.
Blood Hunted is a page turner. I like the way, Ms. de Chevigny wrote this series. Each new book is longer than the previous book, which is understandable because she kept us abreast on what is happening with the characters we grew to love in the previous books while concentrating on a new couple. Furthermore, this book satisfies you and just offers a glimpse of what may happen in the next book to entice you to look forward to reading that also. That is how a series should be written – not giving us a cliffhanger that frustrates us since we have to wait a year to know what will happen next. I highly recommend this book.
Book Excerpt: “Sharra told me the truth about your relationship with Daemor.” Kelly quickly backed away from the anger blazing in his eyes. “You lied to me.”
“For your own good and mine. You would have tried to take me away from here if you’d known the truth and then the wolf cub and my child would both be lost. Admit it, I can give you information about Raven House that no one else can.”
Nicolai smiled and crossed his arms. Leaning back against the wall he tilted his head to the side. “What makes you think I won’t take you away now that I know the truth?”
Kelly glared at him. “You mean try to take me away.”
“No, I mean take you away. I never fail when I set out to do something and I don’t intend to start now. So tell me my little vixen, are you going to make this difficult or easy for me?”
Anger and a little awe suffused her at his arrogance. How dare he dictate her actions to her, he didn’t own her. “Difficult!”
A slow seductive smile crept over Nicolai’s lips. “I was hoping you’d say that.”
Kelly backed away from him, terrified and yet eager to find out what he meant. In the past three years of dealing with Nicolai she knew that she would most likely enjoy whatever he had in mind. “What are you planning on doing with me?”
“That all depends on how difficult you make this for me. I promised Sharra that I would rescue you from this hell house, and I never break a promise.”
“What if I don’t want to leave?”
Nicolai shrugged. “I won’t force you to leave Kelly, but I will use EVERYTHING at my disposal to convince you otherwise… including seduction. Like I said, I never break a promise and I can be quite convincing when I need to be.”
