The long awaited story of Fang Kattalakis and Aimee Peltier was not one to disappoint as the two struggle to deal with not only mutual enemies but also the animosity between their families due to their differing races. With that said, I must admit that Bad Moon Rising has got to be one of the hardest reviews I have done thus far. I am a fan of Sherrilyn’s work and have read this series from the start, but this review was the first I have done from a CD version of the book, and thankfully, I have the printed book to read along with it because I admit there were several distractions. The CD version was read by one person who used different voices for all the characters. I must say that although the women’s voices sometimes came across a little manly, the influx of feeling and emotion gained by the audio over the print was amazing. My main problem was that I found myself laughing out loud and missing parts of the conversation because I was still shaking my head at the witty remarks from the characters, especially between Aimee and her brothers and Fang and his brothers.

Aimee struggled with keeping the secret of her desire from her mother and the rest of the family, but the draw of the sexy wolf was more than she could deny. As he had come to her aid when the jackals accosted her within Sanctuary, she was now his only hope to find a way for his mind and soul to return to his body with each of the daimons she killed from the pack that attacked him and left him for dead. Seeing him wake was the most glorious day of her life, and with that reawakening, her cravings for the man had risen along with the guilt of defying her mother and family.

The book entails the budding romance from start to finish for the two lovers and the turmoil their forbidden love causes. Aimee finds herself, a bearswan, attracted to the sexy wolf when they first meet after he steps in to protect her from a werejackal attack in her home at Sanctuary. The two fight the attraction, but when Fang is left for gator food by his own father along with his brother Vane, the daimons who were invited to dine on them took parts of his soul. Thought to be in a coma, Fang fought demons nonstop within the Nether Realm while Aimee, the only one who understood where he really was, fought to find and destroy the daimons that held his soul. When Aimee is caught within the daimon realm while fighting to get the last one, Fang is offered a way to save her by Thorn, a mysterious keeper of the Nether Realm. He must become a Hellchaser, bound to hunt escaped demons for the Nether Realm for life and to be at Thorn’s beck and call day or night.

Finding so many things changed while he was confined to the Nether Realm, the only constant is the beautiful bearswan that Fang knows is a taboo he cannot have. The two fight their attraction and keep their affections hidden from their families as they struggle to deny that they desire only each other. The new job title of Hellchaser adds to the problems the two face as Thorn forgets to give him all the details and Fang must face the fact that he is now harboring the soul of a demon within his body. Adding to the problems of hiding their feelings is the threat of the Omegrion and some of its members framing the Pellitier family, in particular Mama Lo, into abusing the sanctity of Sanctuary. When the ultimate battle between the pack trying to usurp Mama Lo’s seat on the council and the Pellitier family at Sanctuary finds its completion, the mating of the wolf and the bear is nothing compared to the unrelenting grief over the death of not one but two beloved characters.

I truly could go into so much more details of the storyline developed in this fantastic book but you really must read it for yourself. Sherrilyn has given the reader so many lovable characters over the years, and I love that she continually revisits so many of them with each new book in the series. The love story between Aimee and Fang is to me akin to Romeo and Juliette with a happy ending for the young lovers as it culminates in a final ending for two who dedicated their entire lives to loving each other. The book is full of funny, witty and amusing banter that combines with the truly amazing love story that I highly recommend as a must read.
