Anthony Zoltan has the daunting task of being “modernized” by Monique, the heir to the Vasco clan. The Vasco vampires embrace technology and everything the new world has to offer. The Zoltans? Not so much. This is made abundantly clear when Anthony and his human companion, Jacob, kidnap Monique and whisk her away to seduce the pants off her.

No sooner do the clothes come off than Monique and Anthony realize they’ve been set up by their fathers. Organic, or natural born, vampires are hard to produce, and both clans are in need of offspring. Instead of wallowing in the manipulation, they embrace it, and each other, whole-heartedly.

Aubrey Ross refurbishes a well-worn theme in “Dangerous”, a short from Changeling Press, that reaffirmed my faith in the publisher. The last few shorts I’ve read from Changeling have been disappointing if not disturbing. “Dangerous” wiped away those horrible memories and replaced them with new, fresh, and heart-stoppingly erotic ones that made my toes curl.

The relationship between Anthony and Monique, while enticing, is not all this story has to offer. To complete their ménage, the character of Jacob had to be seen as powerful but not domineering, conflicted but not whiney. He was all that wrapped up in the body of a big, bad, sexy Highlander. His inclusion in the relationship and the sexual activities flowed smoothly, as if there could not be an Anthony and Monique without his presence.

This ease is a big part of why I give “Dangerous” 4 tombstones. With that, the genuine emotion, and the fact that Anthony actually cared if Monique wanted to participate in the activities instead of forcing her, Aubrey Ross has earned a place on my must-read list.
