Ringo Ramone was on a frantic search for Rayne, who had been kidnapped, even though he was completely resistant to the idea of having a mate. What woman would look twice at someone whose father had betrayed the pack, especially a woman like Rayne Poteet, whose father was an important member of their pack, not quite an alpha, but still someone who commanded respect? Ringo followed her scent, paws pounding along the ground, until he discovered where Rayne had been taken. As he waited for an opening, one of the abductors slapped Rayne, and Ringo leapt through the air, landing solidly on the man who was unable to shift into wolf quickly enough to fight back. After removing the confining tape from Rayne’s arms and legs, Ringo drove her to a lycan dwelling where he could keep her safe.

Rayne Poteet was having difficulty processing the events of the evening. First, she had been at the consummation ceremony, cheering for Joe and Martha, followed quickly by Ringo’s rejection, then suddenly captured and dragged to an isolated portion of the desert, hearing the threats of the abductors. Ringo’s appearance and subsequent caring for her, coupled with her definite knowledge that they were to be mates, left her even more confused and exhausted. After calling her parents and confessing that she and Ringo were together and were to be mated, she hoped her troubles were over. But in truth, nothing about Ringo was going to be easy.

Although Rayne was a modern, independent woman who owned her own business, she still spent most of her time trying to convince Ringo that they belonged together. Ringo was too busy wallowing in self-hatred and self-pity to pay much attention to Rayne, though he thought about her all the time. While I understand the premise of soul mates and the notion that true love never runs smoothly, I felt those concepts were seriously overused in this story. I would have liked to read more about some of the peripheral characters rather than the repetitiveness of Ringo and Rayne at cross purposes.
