Hilary Abbott was your typical 20 year old, going to college in Los Angeles. After four months of dating, Hilary is on her way to meet her boyfriend Jeff Slade’s parents in Phoenix, Arizona. When Hilary arrives at Jeff’s parents home, she finds them strange, as well as Jeff’s other family members. That night around a bonfire, Jeff turns into a wolf and bites Hilary. After the bite, Hilary is raped and beaten until she manages to escape. Four years later, we find Hilary in Slade, Idaho, where she has opened up her own business, Larry’s Woodworking Shop. She has avoided making any contact with other werewolves and has only changed when she cannot fight the wolf. She is assisted by Stephen who doesn’t know her darkest secret but has become her closest friend. She has just been commissioned to build a table for an Aaron Jenner for his brother’s birthday. When Aaron decides to drop by and take a look at how the table is progressing, Hilary smells instantly that Aaron is a werewolf. Surprised that a lone wolf is in pack territory without permission, Aaron calls his alpha who happens to be his brother.

Zach Jenner has been the pack leader of the Mountain pack for two years, ever since his uncle Samuel retired. At one hundred twenty members, it is one of the largest packs in the US and spans more than four hundred miles. When his brother Aaron calls to inform him of a lone wolf unannounced on their territory, he is seriously worried. When Aaron arrives home with Hilary’s scent on him, Zach knows that this is the mate he has been searching for, the one wolf that will make him complete. Aaron sets up a meeting at a restaurant for Zach, Hilary, Aaron, and his mate, Tracy. When Zach finally meets Hilary, he has no doubt that this is the wolf that will make him happy for the rest of his life. Now he only has to convince Hilary that they were meant to be. When he hears of how Hilary became a werewolf, Zach is outraged and plans to make things right for his future mate.

I really loved KB Alan’s story and the characters of Hilary and Zach. Hilary is such a strong female lead, and just because she meets her happily ever after, she doesn’t stop being fearless in the face of the many dangers that are thrown her way. The secondary characters are given plenty of time and backstory as well. I’m not sure if this is a standalone story or a series, but if it is the latter, I will definitely be reading it.
