Hush, Hush by Becca Fitzpatrick
Nora Grey does not look forward to the sex education unit in her Biology class, especially when she gets separated from her best friend, Vee, and paired with the mysterious new student, Patch. Nora’s trepidation increases when Patch seems to know a lot about her even though they just met. To her own dismay, in addition to her misgivings regarding Patch, she also feels an attraction. In order to complete the science assignment, Nora goes to the pool hall where Patch hangs out so she can get him to answer the questions. Their exchange does not go particularly well from Nora’s perspective and, after she returns home, she feels as though she is being watched. That sensation is not completely foreign to her since her father’s murder, but this time it seems different.
The next day, Nora’s Biology teacher greets her request to change lab partners not only with a refusal, but also with the suggestion that Patch could use some tutoring. Not sure what to make of that proposal, Nora puts aside her concerns for the afternoon to go to a movie with Vee. Afterwards, as she is driving to her house on the outskirts of town, something lands on the hood of her car, and she sees a figure in dark clothing and a ski mask on the side of the road. To her horror, this person tries to tear the door off of her car, reaches through the window, and grabs Nora’s arm. Finally, the car starts and she is able to take off, leaving her attacker behind. Too afraid to go home to an empty house as her mother is out of town, Nora goes to Vee’s. When the two girls inspect the car for damage, nothing is there but a small, thin crack in the windshield.
As strange, mystifying events continue to occur to her, Nora wonders about connections to Patch and another new transfer student, Elliott, who may also be more than he seems at first glance. Not sure whether she has been truly experiencing these unsettling events or imagining them, Nora feels unable to share some of her fears with anyone as she seeks to get answers.
A truly suspense-laden tale, Hush, Hush honestly keeps the reader guessing until the end. Though evident something seems off with a few of the characters, the author skillfully keeps the exact nature of the enigmatic situation under wraps. Creating an eerie atmosphere within a familiar world, Fitzgerald excels at allowing the reader to see that world through Nora’s eyes, questioning the reliability of her own senses. This exciting novel proves a worthy addition to the growing young adult urban fantasy genre, and this reviewer looks forward to more from the author.

I’ve had my eye on this for awhile now. Heard great things about it too. Just have to convince my hubby to let me add to my already huge TBR pile. May have to sneak this one in (lol). Especially now that she will be here on the 8th of December.
Great review by the way!

Another reviewer total slammed this book, but I enjoyed it.

I thought it was an ok book, not bad but not great. It was a little hard to get into and the writing felt forced. I can’t tell what made it different than other YA books that I’ve read, but the way I described it to my friend was that you were “aware” of the author as you read (as in, “the author wants me to think this right now” or “now the author is doing this” or “here’s the token {cliche} scene here”, rather than just sitting back and enjoying the book). I don’t know, maybe it was just my mood at the time, sometimes books just don’t click with everyone and this was just one of those for me. That’s just what I thought

I just read the book last night, I’m not much of a reader and i have a hard time getting into books that really interest me, but i had a hard time putting this one down. (obviously since i read it in like 6 hours) i fell in love with the twilight series, and was sorta looking for another book that would make me love the characters as much as i loved the Characters in the Twiseries. (sorry to all that hate twilighters). so i’ve bounced around from a few books here and there, and landed on this one by chance, it was nice. the character involvment was good, I liked the way that the book’s plot kept (at least me) wondering what was going to happen next. pros: great intrigue between the two leading characters, and the writing was darn near descent! (hard to find nowadays)… cons: 50% of the book was long and drawn out, and i agree with Stephanie there were a few moments in the book where i was plenty aware of the author. but please don’t get me wrong this book is one of the better ones in YA that i’ve read in a long time! Can’t wait for Cresendo (the sequal) due out fall/2010
