Hunter’s Need by Shiloh Walker
Hunter’s Need is a sensual and arousing delight interwoven with a compelling and suspense-filled murder mystery that delighted and entertained from cover to cover.
Analise Morell found herself feeling she really didn’t fit in with the other students at Excelsior, the private school that trained and schooled some very special students who included psychics, shifters and newly-turned vampires. The only reason she had stayed as long as she had was for her brother, a young man whose powers had grown and flourished under the Hunters teachings while hers had just become manageable. Well that and her one regret, the one she hurt in the process of saving her brother from the evil vampire that had captured them and tortured her for her little brother’s psychic powers, the man she seduced to trap him for the ferile, the man she still dreamed about and her biggest regret: Duke Monroe. When an attack from a vampire at the school forces her to look at what was best for her and Bradley, Ana decides that it is time…she needs to make a new start and get away from her guilt over Duke. And when Ana decides to run from her feelings, she takes it to heart, moving all the way to Anchorage, Alaska.
Duke Lawson, as he was now known, had stayed on at Excelsior as a trainer. The natural shifter still bore the scars both physically and mentally that he endured because of that little violet-eyed blonde psychic that still got under his skin. When Ana takes off, Duke finds himself leaving, too, off to do patrols. He somehow finds himself back at Excelsio, just in time to take a phone call from the woman who still haunts his dreams, who needs a Hunters help…and needs it now. When Kelsey, the headmaster and a very powerful witch, decides it is only Duke that can help her in the Alaskan wild, he gives in to his fears and travels to Anchorage to confront Ana and settle whatever disturbance is unsettling her.
Anchorage, Alaska is far enough away from Excelsior and the Hunters for Ana to be on her own and not tempted to return on a whim to her family and the man she can’t get out of her mind. When a homeless man approaches her, Ana finds herself diving into a murder mystery that continually pulls her in and forces her to research the facts of the case. Realizing there is something foul and evil in the area, she calls the Hunters and not only gets Duke on the phone but is also surprised to find Kelsey has sent him to help her investigate the anomalies in the area. The two begin to delve into the mystery while attempting to push aside their own feelings of desire. The mystery brings them closer together as they are confronted with a paranormal anomaly that neither has faced before and, even after consulting Kelsey, they find that they are on their own to fight to find the truth. When they confront the ultimate power that has a stranglehold on the area, they both must use all the strength and powers they have to stay focused and defeat the terror that has enveloped the Alaskan land for decades.
Shiloh has once again delivered a spectacular mystery romance paranormal; this series just keeps getting better and better. The characters are both strong and determined to find the truth and set those who have been wronged for so long free to find the solace that they deserve. This novel had me spellbound from the start and the suspense of the case that brought the two lovers together, after fighting their feelings for five years, was masterfully written and more than an enjoyable read. For those of you who have not read Hunting the Hunter, both Ana and Duke are introduced in this book, which gives you insight into their history.
