We Need Your Help!

Posted under Polls, Site News by Site Hostess on Sunday 29 November 2009 at 6:01 pm

Hey everybody!

We are trying to improve our site and need your help. Please answer the following questions. Be honest, we won’t bite! ;) This is NOT an opportunity to pimp your own review site. It is about other sites. ;)

What are the top 5 websites or blogs you visit to find out about new books, romance, erotica, paranormal/urban fantasy?
NOT INCLUDING amazon, or ebay, or Barnes and noble or Borders.

What are the top 5 websites you check for new book information??

Please list the 5 websites in your response regardless of whether or not someone has all ready listed them.

If you have more than five feel free to add them to your list. :)

Edited to add:
Thank you so much we’re taking all of your responses into consideration there are many changes coming to BBB in the near future including changes to our header, logo, website layout and design, to make it easier for you to navigate the site and to find what you want, as well as ways to increase author participation and reader involvement.

Again thank you so much for everything you do, and watch for more announcements of the changes and what we are doing with the website.

Honestly I check Here and Ellora’s Cave, Samhaimn’s Website as well. I also follow the authors that I love and their websites and look from there. But mostly for a Variety I will just check out a few blogs. RexReadingRobots. Larissa’s Life are among the few hope that helps.

Thank you that is a great help!

  3. Comment by Kayla J. — November 29, 2009 @ 6:22 pm

I have a blogger account, so all the new posts of the blogs I follow will show up on my dashbord. I use that as far as reviews go. I review on my blog as well. [http://sexywomenread.blogspot.com]

but amazon.com is a pretty good site. they usually have an exepert for just about everything.

writerspace.com is AMAZING! They have contests galore, new authors, author chats. They seriously rock.

But mostly, I get my information from Facebook, being that I’m friends with the majority of my favorite authors on there.

    Hope that helps, BBB!

  4. Comment by Elaine R — November 29, 2009 @ 6:36 pm

There isn’t one website I go to. Since I’m on Twitter, and follow many authors, agents and book sites, I get my info from there. You, others like you, and authors all post links, which I then follow.

But I don’t frequent a specific website to get my information.

  5. Comment by Monica — November 29, 2009 @ 6:38 pm

I look at so many blogs its not even funny…my favs are:
    -Jkays blog (http://j-kaye-book-blog.blogspot.com/) and
    -Ms. Smexy (http://smexybooks.blogspot.com/)

I also look at J.R.Ward’s forum for upcoming releases
    http://jrwardbdb.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=30019

Yeah…I drop by paperbackswap.com some times since I get some good info there as well and the bookblog group on Ning.

If you guys get a cool comprehensive list of sites to check it that would be super sweet! Ill keep a look out.

    Thanks
    Monica

I find a lot of new books via The Story Siren, J.Kaye’s Book Blog, and posts on the blogs I follow. And I get recommendations from Twitter and Goodreads as well. Shelf Awareness has good recommendations every now and again in their newsletter.

There’s no one main site I check for new books, but I always check the book synopsis at the sites you said not to mention. :)

Hope this helps, but I think your site is pretty good as is!

  12. Comment by Belinda Wolf-Whitaker — November 29, 2009 @ 7:18 pm

I didn’t know there were book sites except Amazon, I usually just went to my favorite authors website to see what they had coming out. I also get an email from a bookclub or booksite I think I have to wait until Tuesday to tell you what it is and they would tell me what was coming out. Otherwise I would just go to Wal-Marts book section and see what they had out. That’s why I love this booksite so well I have found a ton of authors I’ve never read that are just fantastic. Now I get information from bittenbybooks, goodreads, and writerspace thanks to your site. I also belong to more authors as friends so they send me e-mails about their up and coming books.

  13. Comment by Ida brugler — November 29, 2009 @ 7:33 pm

Honestly,I am only on here and Nightsofpassion.wordpress.com. I have a folder in my favorites for all my favorite Authors that i check. I will not buy a book that i can not at least read part of the story from, because i am very picky, so a good way for me to find authors that hold my intrest is to read a short story from them out of a book that i have purchased for a story from one of my favorite Authors in a Book with multiple Authors. Does that make sence? It does in my head! LOL

  14. Comment by Ida brugler — November 29, 2009 @ 7:35 pm

Oh wait i lied! i have been on Avon books to look! Sorry

Hope that helps xxxxx

  20. Comment by Diana Pharaoh Francis — November 29, 2009 @ 9:35 pm

I like dearauthor.com for a lot of it. And I like Scifiguy.com. I’ll be honest though, with your site, sometimes it’s hard to find the recent reviews v. the promotions. I wonder is listing both separately on the main page would be good. Part of it is that your site is updated so very often, that if I miss even a day, so much goes past that I don’t know about (I’m lazy) that I know I’d like to know about. So having a list of the most recent 15 or 20 entries would make it less likely for me to miss them, especially if they were dividedinto reviews and not reviews. I like your reviews because there’s a lot of detail about the plot and what you like and don’t like.

I’m trying to think of the other websites i troll and right now, my head fails . . .

  21. Comment by Faerydreamer/Dianne B. — November 29, 2009 @ 9:35 pm

I usually check this website. I belong to a few newsletters but only come here for reviews.

  23. Comment by Dottie — November 29, 2009 @ 10:35 pm

I follow tons of authors and bloggers but the sites I go to for new release and reviews are (besides BBB)

    Anna’s Book Blog
    SciFiGuy
    Donna [Fantasy Dreamer's Ramblings]
    Patricia’s Vampire Notes
(all of these sites have new releases listed for the month as well as interesting reviews and interviews.)

I belong to many sites that offer newletters, and I receive a lot of information that way.

  26. Comment by darchole — November 30, 2009 @ 12:39 am

Other than author sites? (I’ve got a lot saved to my favorites and I check them once a month usually)

    http://www.smartbitchestrashybooks.com
    http://community.livejournal.com/fangs_fur_fey/

But, I usually check out Amazon Listmania or So You Like to Guides to find out about new books (I have my own lists which is why I check out author sites once a month). If someone has gone to the trouble to make one of those things on Amazon then reading the book was at least worthwhile to that person.

However it’s not Amazon I like, it’s the way items are linked together there. I can go to the page of I book (or DVD or MP3) I already know I like and find a whole bunch more like it very easily. There’s also a whole lot more user input over at Amazon also.

  27. Comment by Dovile P. — November 30, 2009 @ 1:50 am

My primary source for information about new books is Wikipedia.org, as I like it’s simple design that loads fast, and it usually has helpful links. I do heavily rely on Amazon, especially for reviews.
I also find many new books by browsing ‘Related editions’ on BookMooch.com, where I’m a member (my BM ID is dova113).
Apart fom BBB, I also follow http://fashion-piranha.livejournal.com/

  28. Comment by Donna A — November 30, 2009 @ 6:11 am

I forgot to add writerspace and fictionwise.

  29. Comment by Jessica S. — November 30, 2009 @ 7:05 am

Well Bitten by Books is one. ;)

Bittenbybooks.com is actually my top review site. Because I found you on http://www.kimharrison.net ,I have won contests, talked to fun authors (who I now want to read more) and “met” some fun readers, too. I REALLY like it.

What are the top 5 websites or blogs you visit to find out about new books, romance, erotica, paranormal/urban fantasy? NOT INCLUDING amazon, or ebay, or Barnes and noble or Borders.
Other than BBB, various blogs (mostly author blogs), but mainly http://idonotwanttowaitiwantthebooknow.wordpress.com/ (my friend Lillie helps the owner of the blog, so I’ve been helping her a time or two pimp out the blog) ; http://mybookaddictionandmore.wordpress.com/, and off and on Writerspace (yeah they have contests and chats, but the two chats that I had won something from, I have never received my prize; my friend won something from a chat (a Roxanne St. Claire ARC of Hunt Her Down and never received her prize either). I use to follow AuthorIsland, DeNita use to have awesome weekly chats with authors, and that rocks.. but mainly that is for ebooks.

  58. Comment by Sandra — December 3, 2009 @ 7:17 am

Sites on my favourites list: All Romance Ebooks, Ellora’s Cave, Liquid Silver Books, Loose-Id, New Concepts Pub, Phaze Books, eXtasy Books/Devine Destinies & lots of author sites & Goodreads.

  59. Comment by Medievalgrrl — December 3, 2009 @ 8:26 am

I have lots of blogs that I think are great but this is really the only paranormal one I follow regularly. Working a 50+ hour a week job, work live theatre at night, writing a bokk and keeping up with my own blog & reviewing is about all I can fit in to 24hr days. I wish I had more time to visit other bloggers but the ones I do read are the ones who have email subscription. If it’s not coming to my inbox I really don’t have time to surf. I feel bad about it but that’s just the way it is.

  60. Comment by Nancy Gilliland — December 4, 2009 @ 3:14 pm

Fictionwise, Fresh Fiction, Samhain Publishing, International Heat author blog, Writerspace, TRS. are the ones I visit most often.
