Jake is accidentally infected with lycanthropy after a hiking accident. The werewolves who found him meant to save him, but with one small nick, his fate was sealed. When Jake and his fellow pack mates find an injured woman in the wilderness, he is adamant about saving her in his human form and making sure she doesn’t suffer as he did. Allison is beautiful and smart and ignites a passion inside him he thought he’d lost after his transformation. As a bonus, she doesn’t run screaming after finding out what Jake really is. Well, at least she doesn’t run for long.

Allison’s appearance stirs more than Jake’s libido. Her work on the federal case against Roane Devlin brought her into contact with Miranda, a woman the pack knows as Mireya. Recent events may have lead Devlin to the woman and her pack, putting everyone in danger. Jake isn’t strong enough to beat Devlin in a physical fight; his only hope is to outmaneuver him and hope no one gets caught in the crossfire.

So far, this is my favorite installment in the Forbidden series by Samantha Sommersby. The Temptation is more developed in technique, plot, characterization, and especially romance. The narrator is still a sexually active male, but with this one, you get to see more layers of emotion, not just superficial ones. In the same respect, Allison exhibits the respected traits of a strong female love interest. She doesn’t waiver when times get tough and she doesn’t hesitate to speak her mind.

My only complaint would surround how easy it was to defeat the bad guy. I was really expecting more bloodshed, but the decisions Jake makes in the process of defeating Devlin helped propel his character forward, so my desire for gore can be overlooked.

Without a doubt, I give Forbidden: The Temptation 4 tombstones. I can’t wait until Forbidden: The Sacrifice is released!
